So for the past month, I went to therapy a couple times with different therapists. This is all thanks to my job which works closely with a university in the area. I blogged about my medication this past week. If you haven’t seen that, check that out here: https://medium.com/@chrisraynerson/my-first-weeks-on-medication-f3d8b482a545 So I went a couple of times this past month, tried different therapists and whatnot. I wish I got the same results as I did with the medication, but I didn’t. It was fine. All of the therapy sessions have been fine, but I don’t get the same satisfaction or life-changing feelings I do when it comes to my medication. A lot of the discussions about my past I’ve been having I already feel like I answered the reasons why I did it. Why I did this, or that. And it hasn’t felt revolutionary. I like the talking part where I can feel like I rant, but I don’t feel changed at all. And I feel like that’s a problem. My whole mindset was that therapy should be the life-changing thing and the medication is the secondary. But maybe it’s because I already use my webcam as my therapy box for the last decade? It’s a possibility. BUT, I will not stop therapy. I’ll keep on trying. Maybe I haven’t found the right therapist. We’ll find out. But I appreciate all of the love and support from all of you. So the Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger happens this Sunday! 5 days away! I am super excited to be a part of it. Everything is good to go, as far as I know. I will be having a doctors appointment on Thursday just to make sure I am good to go. But it all happens this Sunday. The plan is I’m going to be documenting the whole thing. From the morning of and throughout the whole walk, I’ll be documenting as much as I can. I’ll be doing Instagram Posts/Stories/Instagram Live throughout the event. I’ll be trying to take a picture at each mile marker for Twitter. I’ll be documenting everything I can on Snapchat. And I’ll be filming everything I can to do a video vlog of it for YouTube & Facebook. The sad part is I’ll be walking by myself during this walk. Last time, my first ever walk, I got to walk with my best friend Jenny. She’s in Maine so she can’t do it, and I haven’t been able to convince anyone to walk 20 miles with me haha. But that’s okay! I’ll be doing the walk all by myself, but I’ll be surrounded by thousands of awesome individuals who are doing this for good as well. So I’ll try to get rid of my anxiety for Sunday haha. This is all for a good cause. This is to end childhood hunger. I’m ready! I’m excited! And I can’t wait to feel the pain of 20 miles! Today I am discussing my very first few weeks I’ve had when it comes to me taking depression medication. I had a panic attack at work a couple of weeks ago, and with the encouragement and love from my family, I went to my first physical in years. And I was prescribed depression medication for the very first time. I also have been doing therapy, but we will discuss that Friday. The very first thing I was told is that nothing much would change in the first week or two. I definitely agreed. My body was just slowly getting used to the medication and it didn’t feel that much different. But that didn’t last long because by Week 2, I had to up a dose in the medication. Things changed for the better. Many things have happened because of this. I feel more productive in my daily life than I have ever been. I have been going out with friends more often. I’ve been going on dates! I would have so much insecurity and anxiety over going on dates with people, but it’s disappeared! I have feel a lot fuller quicker. I don’t need to overeat anymore. Once I get to the 2800 calorie mark, I feel full enough. I’ve been working out great. No complaints there! And ultimately, I feel happier. I have never felt this happy in a long time. This is just only a few first weeks. I’m still trying to figure out if there is any real side effects to this drug. I’ll be real and say maybe the only thing it has had a side effect on is my sexual drive. But that’s some personal stuff I won’t get into. I’ll be seeing the doctor before my Walk for Hunger and do a check-in. We’ll see what happens, but it’s all good news on the medication front! Today is Transformation Tuesday. I post my progress photos everyday on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. So follow me on those platforms if you want to see them every week. I’ll do these blog posts every once in a while to kind of give you my honest opinion on what I see. So the left picture is me on a cruise with my family in 2015. The right picture is me today. I was definitely not happy in the left picture. Now I feel so great and happy. And on the days that I don’t feel happy, I love looking at these pictures and seeing how far I’ve come. I’ve come so far and I don’t care if it takes me another year and a half to lose another 60lbs. I’m cool with it! Good morning! I didn’t properly weigh myself a week ago, so we are going over what I lost in the last two weeks! 2 Weeks Ago: 268LBS This Week: 263.8LBS ( ⬇️4.2LBS This Week) Lost a Total of ⬇️60LBS! I have now made it too the 60lbs down club. I can’t wait till I reach the 250’s. For the last two weeks, with my medication and therapy, I’ve been just trying to get slowly back to normal before I posted regularly again. I started to make sure I worked out, ate right, and all of that stuff. Everything is going really great. I have more details about the medication and the therapy and how those have been helping me, or have not been helping me. I appreciate all of the love and support you have all given me. I don’t know much more content I’m gonna make this week. No promises. We’ll see how it goes! Kick Monday’s ass!
This isn’t a story to gain pity. This isn’t a story to grow sympathy. Today is Boston Marathon Monday. I am proud to live in this great city. I moved here for college in 2011 and I haven’t left yet. I love this fucking city. So on Marathon Monday, I’d like to share with you my thoughts and what I experienced on this day back 5 years ago, when the marathon bombings happened. I was in college to study film making. I was constantly working on film projects while trying not to go insane with my depression issues at the time. I had to get a job as well because I blew through all of the money I had saved for college. So I was juggling a 40-hour a week job, with going to school, to doing video projects, to trying to date and to go through my depression episodes. I was a fucking mess. On this day, all I really remember was that it was another Marathon Monday. I’ve been to the marathon the year before and I didn’t really see the need to go to it again this year. So I focused on my film studies and stayed at home in my apartment about 3–4 miles away from the finish line. I ended up taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon. I was awoken to my phone going crazy. Text sound after text sound. Facebook Messager going nuts. My phone ringing. I woke up to my father asking if I was alright. I told him I was and that I was napping, and he told me something happened at the Marathon. I turned the channel and was stunned. We were attacked. I had to catch up with everyone to make sure they knew I was alright. I watched the news as the rest of my friends and family to the horrifying details and footage of the bombing itself. The night of I went to walk around the city and it was stunning. Everyone was quiet. Many people still crying in mourn, hugging one another. This effected all of us, and changed our city forever. Now that next 5 days was a roller coaster, but that’s a story for another day. I want to wish everyone at the marathon the best. I hope the rain doesn’t stop you from reaching your goal. You are a lot stronger than I. Have an awesome Monday everyone. Let’s remember those we lost that day 5 years ago. RIP to Krystle Campbell, Martin Richard, Officer Sean Collier & Lingzi Lu.
So I was asked this on Instagram (which you can follow at Instagram.com/ChrisRaynerson) about cheat meals and cheap days. Which one should they choose? Well, I have a complicated answer for all of you. First, this is a great question to ask during my month of not going over my calorie deficit goal. That’s my February goal. So let me tell you what I wish i could do. I’d love to go to the supermarket and get some Salt & Vinegar chicken wings, a box of chocolate chip cookies, and then order some Dominos. I wish I could do that every day. That would be my cheat day if I did one. But I don’t, at least anymore. For me personally, I feel like meals make me feel a lot better. There is less damage to my progress with just a meal, and I could space it out properly. When you do a cheap day, you are really hurting yourself. And would that keep you off track, doing further damage to your weight loss journey? It did to me. So what I like to do is small cheat meals throughout the week. I’m human. You’re human. We like stuff that are bad for us, and that is okay. I’ll for example eat an apple, cottage cheese and a protein bar for breakfast. Yum. Maybe I want a chocolate bar for a snack? Okay, sure. I go for it. However, I follow that cheat meal with a healthy meal right after. So after that chocolate bar, I’ll follow that up with a turkey sandwich and grapes. Delicious! Notice how I also choose healthy meals I find tasty as well. What’s the point of life if you eat stuff you don’t enjoy all day? It will only lead you to falling off the wagon. So the formula is this: Healthy Meal - Cheat Meal - Healthy Meal - Healthy Meal - Healthy Meal Don’t give yourself anxiety over this. If you want to have a donut, go ahead. Just make sure you follow that up with a healthy meal. So I prefer cheat meals.
THIS WEEK’S WEIGH-IN & GOAL! Last Week: 269.9LBS This Week: 269.5LBS (Down 0.4LBS) So a very successful weigh in this week. I’ve also been looking at other ways of tracking my journey. Seeing how I have gained so much muscle since August when it comes to working out. I took a picture of myself today and compared it to January. So much difference! Just want to remind you all that your weight loss journey is more than seeing a change on the scale. I have started to measure my body as well, so we’ll see how much fat I lose as well! Last Week’s Goal: Drink 50oz of Water every day! I accomplished this easily. So easily, I think I should up that amount this week. This Week’s Goal: Drink 75oz of Water every day!
So I am a few days late to announce this goal, but I have been doing this goal so far this past week so I still want to announce it for all of you. I have not been very consistent and we need to be real about it. I've been staying in my calorie deficit for 6 straight days, and then will all of a sudden fall off the wagon for 1-3 days after. This has been going on since the beginning of the year. Calorie deficit is the most important thing when it comes to weight loss. So I want to focus on counting calories and staying in my calorie deficit all month for February 2018. Time to get back to the basics!
So this is the results of my January 2018 goal, which I made in a podcast a couple of weeks ago. My January goal was to be more & do more positive things in this world. This was coming off of the end of the year, where everyone said 2017 was the worst. I didn't think so, but I wanted to spread some love and positive vibes around the world. Here are the things I listed as major positive things I did: 1. Helped a friend of mine move. 2. Helped someone find their phone at work. 3. Helped bench someone at the gym. 4. Donated money to the ACLU 5. Sent my mom a personal video for her birthday. I think all of these are good positive vibes I brought to the world. Sound weird to have to list them, but I don't know how else I could showcase why I completed this goal. I hope all of you go out of your way today and do something positive today.'
Last Week: 269.6LBS This Week: 269.9LBS ⬆0.3:LBS I already know why I gained the weight this week. I overate last Monday. Not today, but last Monday. I'll be real with you, i've been very inconsistent when it comes to eating in my calorie deficit. I will go 6 days of being very strict, and then go overeat for a day/two/three. It's not very good. Hopefully I'll be successful in my February goal so that won't be a consistent problem. It'll be a battle I will always have to battle though. No ignoring that. Last Week's Goal: 15 Minutes on the Stairmaster. Completed that goal! Every workout this past week, I've been on the Stairmaster for 15 minutes. The ultimate goal is to get up to 30, and then gradually increase the speed. But I don't want to rush all at once to not burn myself out. So I'll make a slow increase in that. This Week's Goal: 50oz of Water Every Day I have been slacking when it comes to me drinking water every day. A huge help in my quest to be more full should be to get enough water. So the goal is to at least get 50oz of water every day. More than that is cool, but the goal is 50oz.
In this episode of My #WeightLossJourney, we discuss the weigh-in & goal for Week 3 and how well I did. I give my goal for Week 4. I discuss what to do after you start binging. I give some love and hear feedback from YouTube comments. And I discuss why you don't have to exercise to lose weight.
In this episode of the podcast, I discuss how to create the best goals for your weight loss journey. I answer a Snapchat question where I was asked how I find time to workout. We talk about how walking has helped me lose 50lbs. And finally, I discuss the pros & cons of counting calories vs. tracking macros. Hope this podcast helps you all out. If you have questions, comments or feedback for me, e-mail me: ChrisRaynerson@gmail.com
In the very first "episode" of the podcast, I discuss how the setup of this podcast will be and discuss all of my goals! From goals for this week, to this month, and this year! It's a new year, and it's time to kick butt!
