Why do smart people end up with partners who want to destroy them?Prosecutors allege Kouri Richins was millions in debt, had a boyfriend on the side, and allegedly arranged fentanyl purchases—all while Eric thought he had a marriage. The question everyone asks: How did he not see it? The answer isn't that he was stupid. Research on coercive control suggests he was targeted.Nobody marries a monster. They marry a mask. And by the time the mask slips, the trap has already closed.Digital forensic testimony showed the jury what allegedly happened behind that mask. Analyst Chris Kotrodimos testified about deleted memes recovered from Kouri's phone—accessed moments after first responders left the home where Eric lay dead. One was captioned "I'm really rich." Another showed a woman crying into cash. Hundreds of messages and searches were scrubbed from Kouri's device between January and mid-March 2022. Eric's phone had no mass deletions.The timeline is damning. Kouri's phone was unlocked multiple times at 3:06 a.m. the night Eric died. She didn't call 911 until 3:21. Google searches recovered from her replacement device included how to wipe an iPhone remotely, whether police can force lie detector tests, and life insurance payout timelines.Cell tower data placed Lauber's and Crozier's phones at the same Draper gas station on the three exact dates of alleged drug purchases—and nowhere else.Valentine's Day evidence showed Kouri texting her alleged boyfriend "I love you" while Eric texted her saying he was sick. Ayatollah Javadi Amoli - one of Iran's most senior Islamic clerics - declared that the nation was "on the verge of a great test" and urged "the shedding of Zionist blood, the shedding of Trump's blood" on state television. Exiled Iranian Prince commends Trump for bombing Iran By contrast, in an interview on CBS' 60 Minutes, Prince Reza Pahlavi, the eldest son of the deposed last Shah of Iran, a leader of the opposition to the Iranian Islamic Republic, commended President Donald Trump for bombing the Iranian military sites. PAHLAVI: “My message to President Trump is that I'm here to echo and join millions of my compatriots inside and outside of Iran to thank him for having the courage to do what is not easy, but intervene. He will go down in the annals of Iranian history as the most celebrated foreign leader that changed the ball game and changed the world as a result.” Pahlavi, who has lived in exile 47 years, is the most prominent figure in the opposition to the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was joyous outside the courthouse. GRECH: “I'm standing with my friends and colleagues here at the Maltese courts, and I want to tell you guys that we won. The court has decided in our favor and has pronounced me and the co-accused as innocent. “It is a big day. I'm very thankful that the Maltese courts decided for freedom of speech. The Maltese courts decided for freedom of religion and has announced that I had every right to share my Christian views around sexuality and gender, and to mention organizations that are helping Christians to live consistently with their belief system.” Matthew Grech cited 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. “The Bible says in the book of Corinthians some of you were homosexuals, adulterers, you name it, but you were washed, sanctified, justified in the name of Lord Jesus. This is the good news. This is the Gospel. It offers hope, change and transformation.” Trump fires DHS Secretary Kristi Noem TRUMP: “You're fired!” On Thursday, after a painful couple of days of testimony before Congress, Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, was fired by President Donald Trump, reports ABC News. In addition to the expected attacks from Democratic Senators on DHS, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana asked Secretary Noem pointed questions about whether President Trump signed off on her decision to authorize $220 million on Homeland Security ads which prominently featured her. Listen. NOEM: “I have a policy in place that I review contracts. My deputy chiefs have the ability to review anything under $5 million. Above that, I evaluate and look at.” KENNEDY: “Okay, and you do that, I understand, to try to curb waste and abuse of taxpayer money. Is that right?” NOEM: “Yes, sir. In fact, it's been extremely effective.” KENNEDY: “How do you square that concern for waste, which I share, with the fact that you have spent $220 million running television advertisements that feature you prominently?” NOEM: “Sir, the president tasked me with getting the message out to the country, and to other countries where we were seeing the invasion come from, with putting commercials out that told them that if they were in this country illegally, that they needed to leave, or we would detain them and remove them, and they'd not get the chance to come back to America the right way. That has been extremely effective.” (crosstalk) KENNEDY:  “The president asked you to run these advertisements. Is that right?” NOEM: “We had that conversation, yes, before I was put in this position and sworn in and confirmed, and since then as well.” KENNEDY: “Okay. You're testifying that President Trump approved this ahead of time. Is that my understanding?” NOEM: “We had conversations about making sure that we were telling people across …” KENNEDY: “No, ma'am, I'm asking you, sorry to interrupt, but the President approved ahead of time you spending $220 million running TV ads across the country in which you are featured prominently?” NOWEM: “Yes, sir, we went through the legal processes. worked with [Office of Management and Budget].” KENNEDY: “Did the president know you were going to do this? NOEM: “Yes.” KENNEDY: “He did?” NOEM: “Yes.” KENNEDY: “Okay.” In response, President Trump told Reuters, “I never knew anything about it.” RedState.com speculates that the exchange between GOP Senator Kennedy and Kristi Noem was her undoing. Shortly after his comments to Reuters, Trump posted to Truth Social ​that Noem would be replaced. The president said he was "pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, effective March 31, 2026." This marks the first Cabinet secretary Trump has fired in his second term. Anniversary of Christian martyrdom of 22-year-old Perpetua And finally, the church remembers the martyrdom of Perpetua, a 22-year-old Christian noblewoman in Carthage, North Africa on March 7th A.D. 203. Things are obviously moving very fast in the Middle East. When I caught up with my guest today, Dalia Dassa Kaye, the war was in its second day. Bombings in Iran and throughout the region continued at a rapid clip, and there was little sense of when, if, or how it might end. Regular listeners of the show are no doubt familiar with Dalia Dassa Kaye. She is a senior fellow at the UCLA Burkle Center for International Relations and the author of a new book on U.S.–Iran relations, Enduring Hostility: The Making of America's Iran Policy. She has researched and written extensively about escalatory dynamics in the region—how Iran, Israel, the United States, and Gulf countries may respond to being attacked. Now that this dynamic is clearly underway, I thought it would be useful to get her perspective on what we are seeing unfold. We kick off by discussing why the United States and Israel launched this war, given that Trump has never really articulated his motivations as the U.S. moved massive military assets to the region. We then discuss where this may head—and what might inspire de-escalation in the near future.
