In this episode of Your Dream Business Podcast, host Teresa Heath‑Wareing talks with Lauren Davis, a marketing & brand consultant, about how public speaking can boost your business. Lauren shares her journey into speaking, offers a framework for deciding whether to say “yes” to unpaid gigs, compares keynotes vs. workshops, and shows how to make the most of events (think networking, pro photos/videos). A big emphasis is put on making sure speaking opportunities align with your values and business goals. Key Takeaways Choose Speaking Gigs That Align with Your Values & Goals Not every opportunity is worth taking. Lauren emphasizes evaluating engagements based on how well they match your personal values, the audience, and your long‑term business vision. Saying yes to misaligned opportunities can dilute your brand and effort. Weigh the Difference Between Keynotes, Workshops, Paid & Unpaid Gigs Workshops and keynotes serve different purposes. Workshops might offer more interaction, learning, or depth, while keynotes often give broader visibility. Similarly, unpaid gigs aren't always “bad”—they can offer exposure, networking, or content. But you need criteria (audience, promotion, platform) to decide whether the cost in time/energy is worth it. Maximize What Each Event Gives You Treat speaking engagements not just as “one‑off gigs” but as opportunities. Get professional photos/videos, leverage them for marketing, build relationships with other attendees/speakers, and ensure organizers promote you well. These extras amplify the value of the speaking moments. When it comes to a child's backpack, 10% to 15% of body weight is the maximum safe range, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). For example, a backpack that weighs 6.6 to 10 lbs. (3 to 4.5 kg) is recommended for a child weighing 66 pounds (30 kilograms) 5% to 10% of body weight is recommended for smaller children, those who have longer walks or commute, or if pain is already present Weigh, don't guess — use a bathroom scale to check. If the pack exceeds the range, remove items or split the load The way a backpack fits is just as important as its weight. Always use two straps, keep the pack high and snug, and place heavier items close to the spine Watch for warning signs that a backpack is too heavy, including leaning forward, red strap marks, tingling or numbness, or frequent complaints of back, neck, or shoulder pain
This week, we’ll hear from three seasoned leaders from Cedarville University—Dr. Michael Sherr, Dr. Jason Lee, and Dr. Angelia Mickle—who bring together decades of experience in social work, theology, and nursing. United by a shared passion for equipping healthcare professionals, they explore how we can find renewed strength under tremendous pressures by bridging the gap between faith and health. Later in the episode, we’ll hear from Dr. Drew Dickens, a technologist and storyteller exploring where faith, identity, and innovation meet. As host of the Encountering Peace and AI and Spirituality podcasts, he brings deep insight into how emerging technology is reshaping the way we think, connect, and seek meaning. But also a sense of longevity, because all these things are done not just in the moment and for immediate success or healing or any treatment, but ultimately for the glory of God.” - Dr. Jason Lee “The purpose of us being here is to comfort people and to help them in their time of vulnerability, or if they’re hurt and suffering, and just love them unconditionally—the way that Jesus would.” - Angelia Mickle “If we have Jesus in our heart, the joy is going to show. Jesus is love, and we’re going to reflect Christ, so we’re going to reflect love.” - Dr. Angelia Mickle “[AI] is still casually dismissed right now, and that’s concerning to me because we’re dealing with issues of identity, we’re dealing with issues of inspiration.” - Dr. Drew Dickens “Prayer requires effort, and we need to remember that communicating with the Creator and Sustainer of this vast universe is an amazing privilege.” - Dr. Drew Dickens “We need to have these conversations on the effects of [AI] in the pews, on families and relationships—the effects it’s going to have on community, on communion, on what it means to gather together, or just to re-engage with a physical moment of intimacy with God.” - Dr. Drew Dickens “We’re not to be a people of fear, but of hope. YOUR BIRTH, GOD’S WAY - Christian Pregnancy, Natural Birth, Postpartum, Breastfeeding Help
SHOW NOTES: Tylenol in pregnancy: is it safe—or have we been misled? In this episode, I break down the growing controversy around acetaminophen use during pregnancy, following concerns first raised under the Trump Administration. We'll look at how this issue is rooted not just in health science, but in politics, profit, and public confusion. As a Christian mother, you deserve to know the truth. I'll walk you through three key insights to help you approach this topic with discernment, wisdom, and confidence—so you can make informed choices for your body, your baby, and your beliefs.
Greater transparency would go a long way to solve the deep institutional distrust people are feeling across most of government, media, and Corporate America. Our guest today, Mark Cuban, is tackling this transparency problem in the unnecessarily complex world of prescription drugs. We talked about the story behind CostPlusDrugs.com, his bold vision to “f–k up healthcare,” and lots about sports and family in between. Weigh in on our topical polls from the end of the episode below:Do you think playing multiple sports ultimately makes someone a better athlete? To what extent are you concerned about the privacy of your personal data when using AI systems like ChatGPT? What is your opinion of ketchup on eggs?Do you think it's possible to "have it all" as a working parent? Do you think it's a good or bad idea for middle and high school athletes to monetize their name, image, and likeness (NIL)?
Stocks posted modest gains on Monday as concerns mounted about a looming US government shutdown possibly delaying the release of key labor-market data that could provide clues about how fast the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates. Vice President JD Vance said he believes the US government is on track to shut down, seeking to pin the blame on Democrats one day before federal funding is set to lapse. "I think we're headed into a shutdown because the Democrats won't do the right thing," Vance said Monday following a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House. "I hope they change their mind, but we're going to see." For more, we turn to Bill Campbell – Global Bond Portfolio Manager at DoubleLine. And President Donald Trump's new plan to end the Gaza war is, in essence, an ultimatum to Hamas to release hostages, give up arms and surrender — or face the full force of the Israeli military with the US's explicit blessing. Trump said Israel would have his "full backing to finish the job" if Hamas rejects the offer, and Israeli troops and tanks are now in the heart of Gaza City, from which 800,000 Palestinians have fled. In that sense, the offer is familiar — and it is one that Hamas has repeatedly rejected over the course of the war. We heard from Kirstin Fontenrose, President of President of Red Six International. She spoke to Bloomberg's Avril Hong and Shery Ahn on the Asia Trade. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
