He has published several research journal articles dealing with racial bias in federal nutrition policy. He frequently donates his time via practicing at free medical clinics, and travels widely, speaking at hospitals, churches and community centers throughout the country. I struggled with my weight for almost 10 years. I was miserable and unhappy and after many failed diets, too many rules and too much restriction, I thought it was time to do something that was sustainable, easy, obvious and attractive! That's when I finally found a solution that worked for me. I was able to lose 40lbs and become the leanest I have ever been if my life even after having 2 kids!  The method I'm going to be talking about is tried and tested across my course Lean with Plants where hundreds of women have managed to lose weight just by using the same systems. Learning about how weight loss works is a small piece of the puzzle. You may know what you should be doing, but it's implementing what you know that's the hardest part!  The missing piece for a lot of women is building a strong habit foundation on a consistent basis that help you become the kind of person who is able to accomplish your weight loss goals.Do you struggle to stay on track even though you know what to eat? Do you feel you have an all or nothing mindset and once you fail, you revert back to old eating habits? In this episode I'm going to discuss why habits are so important, and how to use them to build systems that make your weight loss easy, obvious and attractive so you can become more consistent and finally start shedding those pounds!  Remember this is not a bout willpower,  it's not about someone else being better at it than you. It's about finding a system that works for for you! You are not broken and you are certainly not a failure. There are many different ways of implementing new systems and habits that can work for you. So many of us have lost the ability to think for ourselves – certainly when it comes to fitness & nutrition… We rely on someone else to tell us what to do, when to do it, and we've simply lost the ability to trust ourselves and our own intuition. However, there comes a point where you have to figure out what works for YOU and there is no right answer. Rachel and David delve into how to find that balance in training as a busy professional, how to let go of overanalysing and perfectionistic thoughts regarding diet and exercise, how to learn to think for yourself, how to trust your own decisions, and the key factors to take into account if you're on the fence between going light or slogging through. Rachel explains exactly why she believes exercise should NOT be a form of therapy, the dangers of needing exercise in your life as your only outlet for stress, how to detach emotion from food and exercise, and the most important factor of all when it comes to balancing your training (hint: it's not intensity). Sometimes, the best thing anyone can do for themselves is to sit still and do nothing. HO HO HO! We can smell ‘em keyboard warriors rearing to smack us with some self-righteous ideals from miles away! There's bound to be someone who'll read this and say, “that's just lazy!” Or maybe something along the lines of, “not everyone's a privileged schmuck who can afford to bum around…”. We can't blame them because in the context of the recent/on-going pandemic, where a lot of people lost their livelihood, telling someone to “sit still” just seems so inconsiderate, maybe even offensive. And so, we're obliged to extend the context… When was the last time you made time for yourself? When was the last time you considered the state of your HEALTH above things like work and responsibilities? A heck load of people have become so addicted to being BUSY to the point where they've NEGLECTED the truly important things like health and family. And for what? There's this mentality that success equates to hustling and grinding, overcommitting and overextending oneself, else, running themselves to the ground. Like that's the only way to provide for their families, meet the demands of daily life, and maybe one day, earn the right to “live the dream”. But what if there was another way? A way that promotes productivity instead of being busy. A way that puts more weight on progress rather than the motions. A way where you get to REALLY LIVE! Maybe it's time to consider sitting down to think of how you can dent your goals, and doing nothing that antagonizes your health (more), instead of aimlessly hammering at things that don't really matter!
