thanks for the food

This week is Thanksgiving, so we started thinking about how we celebrate the holiday. This is another food podcast basically, I hope that's something you like and would like to listen to and tell us if y'all make these dishes too. We make different "salads" which include ingredients like lechera, marshmallows, coconut shavings. We talk about how thanksgiving was just a new for our families. Amy remembers her first thanksgiving that was also our mother's first thanksgiving. As a latinx household, we also reflect about how we don't actually celebrate the holiday, it's just food, family, and vibes. So from our familia to yours (regardless of if/how you celebrate), we wanna wish ya a safe week and great vibes. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pendejadas)

Now that Diana has become Dora, we started talking about our looks. What does that mean for you? For us, this means clothes, makeup (if you choose to wear it), the way you do your hair, and just the way you carry yourself. Amy thinks makeup is a waste of time for herself. Gabby likes makeup to make her feel better sometimes (if you're wearing mascara, you can't cry!). Diana likes to play with make-up, but her skin hates her because she forgets to take off her makeup. Regardless, we are all beautiful :) However, beauty is a changing societal standard and you don't need to fit whatever beauty standard to have worth. However, can someone tell us why men have nipples? We don't get it. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pendejadas)

On this very special episode of pendejadas and chingaderas, we are joined by hija de tu madre podcast to talk about the namesake, our madres. More specifically we talk about how mean our moms can be. From comparing us to our cousins, siblings, and even to fictional characters (like la chilindrina). We get a little ~deep~ talking about the double standards we faced growing up as women. ALSO, what's up with moms talking shit to you in person but then gassing you up behind your back. Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?? Anyway we talk about all this and more with our new hermana, Vanessa.Be sure to check out Vanessa's podcast, Hija de tu madre podcast, where she explores the immigration stories of Latinx mothers. She's a badass and it was amazing collaborating with her! Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pendejadas)

In this episode, Amy, Gabby, and Diana stress the importance of voting. We got our ballots in, have you did your part to get Trump out of office? If you still haven't make sure to get your voice out there with your vote. Inform your parent, inform yourself. If you don't care about the election, well we hope our obsession with winning is enough of a motivator to get out there and vote (Dodger, Lakers, more?). We love you and stay safe! ~SPOOOKY VIBES~In this episode, the sisters talk about our own paranormal activities, regardless if we believe in that as a possibility. Amy may not believe in anything of the "beyond," but she sure as hell is not messing with any ouija board. However, our mom always makes sure to leave a glass a water for the friendly ghost that lives in our house (specifically Diana's room-cute lil roommate). Really, all three of us are terrified of even watching scary movies but we have all partaken in various Halloween activities. Really this is just a countdown of the things we have endured so 1) our friends/wife to enjoy themselves OR 2) a way to make fun of our friends. Stay safe this year for Halloween! the imposter among us

If you aren't as hip and cool as these three hermanas, you may not have heard of Among Us. The game sweeping across the global ~youths~. It's a game where everyone is repairing a ship, but there is an imposter who is secretly murdering the crew. The goal is to find the imposter. We have been having a great time with it (Gabby is a bit too excited to play a murderer)! However, this game has made us confront the ways we can feel like an ~imposter~. Latinas and other POCs tend to feel like they don't belong in whatever field they are in. Oftentimes, that is because it wasn't built for us, but you CAN make it your own. Diana has nearly always worked in labs with no other underrepresented minorities. Education seems to work to push out talented students. On top of systemic racism (YUCK), we can be our own hater and will downplay our own success. Our main takeaways? You are THAT bitch, always! Learning doesn't mean you're not capable (actually the opposite)lastly, echale ganas and ponte las pilas! Which is all to say, get to work!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/pendejadas)

Meanwhile, Amy explains that doctors are a scam. And Gabby tries to figure what exactly healthy food is. How do we access food? ALSO, why are people paying money to fake ride a bike (soul cycle)?! Dear esteemed listeners,Today, we humbly present you with an ode to the Spanish language spoken in Latin American countries. It is always Hispanic Heritage month in this household. In today's podcast, we have TWO GUESTS (see we have friends!). Raquel (Amy's wife) and her sister, Pamela, graciously agreed to join us to talk about the differences in the way we speak. From accents in Spanish, accents in English, and the words we use seem to craft a picture of the differences between some Dominican slang and Mexican slang. We learned SO many words for panties. ANYWAY, Just remember, if someone offers you a galleta and they DON'T have cookies, you should run. Okay, yes, we'll admit we are VERY late to watching the Walter Mercado documentary. We'll also admit we used this topic of representation to just push our agenda (urging people to watch the shows/movies we like). AND what about it??This week, we talk about the representation of Latinx people in media and whether white people can accurately write/direct/produce characters with identities they don't own. We also talk about the greatest movie of all time: Dora the Explorer. We get into what it means to want to see your stories on screen and how the only way that can happen is when they hire Latinx folks!! and we deliver all of this in a very funny way. because obviously, we're hilarious. ALSO, support Latina creators!! (Diana would also like to say that referring to Gina Rodriguez's mess-ups refers to her anti-black statements/slur usage and probably shoulda been clear bout that). Amy demonstrates again how the eldest daughter of immigrants is almost always treated as a second mother. Diana reminisces how their mom may have made progress, but clothing have always been a divide. We talk about how even biology determining sex isn't as clear cut as people want us to believe. The people who have taken our identities, betrayed our trust, and made us feel less than. Do you still think about them? While they might live rent-free, there's definitely a price to pay. We answer the unanswerable in this episode. Is it possible to forgive someone who you have held a grudge against? Should you ditch people with different politically beliefs? Is it bad to always be ready to cut someone off? Does this defense mechanism do more good or harm? And where does it come from? POC... women in STEM This week, Diana's school made the decision to close campus 10 days before they were supposed to move in and honestly this is just a way for her chance vent. Gabby also talks about the time college kicked her out before she even got the chance to move into her dorm. And Amy? Well, in complete first-gen oldest sister fashion, she had to learn to do it herself and show these institutions that she was gonna make it there whether they wanted her there or not.
