In 1932, Dr. William Amos Trivette opened a modern clinic in the rural farmlands of Hamptonville, North Carolina. His dream was to bring advanced medicine to his community—but just six years later, his untimely death closed the doors on that vision. Over the decades, the building became a supper club, a detox center, a nursing home, and even a nursery. Yet through every new chapter, the same question lingered: who—or what—never left? Today, the Trivette [TRI-vit] Clinic is one of North Carolina's most talked-about haunted locations. Visitors report phantom footsteps, doors that move on their own, icy cold spots, and the laughter of unseen children. Some say Dr. Trivette still walks the halls, joined by two little girls known as “Majesty” and “Nancy,” along with nurses and patients who never checked out. In this episode, we sit down with current owners Doug Galliher and Tim Trivette to uncover the history, legends, and very real paranormal activity inside the Trivette Clinic. If you've dealt with depression, you know that it's a disorder that speaks to you, firing off insults and terrible idea, often right in the middle of a conversation. Barges in to tear you down. We all must contend with this rude presence. Aaron Foster is a very funny comedian who is still fairly new to the full-time comedy life but, now in his fifties, he's done a lot of living to inform his comic material. Much of his recent act is centered on a fairly recent diagnosis of major depressive disorder, a condition that he has likely lived with for a very long time. Aaron grew up with an abusive father with bipolar disorder and a brother with schizophrenia who eventually took his own life. Aaron hosted a show on HGTV, opened two restaurants, and made a living as a visual artist for many years. But all the while, comedy called to him. Something about how comedians seemed to make sense of the world appealed to him and after dabbling in standup earlier in life, he has now taken the plunge to dedicate his energy to it. In a moving and personal conversation, Aaron's depression makes a few appearances but we're always able to catch it and put it in its place.(As mentioned on the show)Wits Reunion Show at the Fitzgerald TheaterJohn Moe's writing classes at the Loft Literary CenterMath Emergency Farewell Show at the Amsterdam Bar and HallThank you to all our listeners who support the show as monthly members of Maximum Fun.Check out our I'm Glad You're Here and Depresh Mode merchandise at the brand new merch website MaxFunStore.com!Hey, remember, you're part of Depresh Mode and we want to hear what you want to hear about. Witchcraft is often misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, it isn't about dark magic. At its core, it's about the power of the mind and spirit interacting with the world around us. Witches see the world as interconnected, harnessing natural energies—whether from the Earth, the moon, or themselves—to bring about transformation, healing, and positive change. Modern witches are not figures of folklore but real people who live in harmony with universal energy to manifest their desires and set intentions. So, what is it like to be a witch in today's society? Galveston, Texas, is often considered one of the most haunted places in America due to its history of tragedy and devastation. The Great Storm of 1900, the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history, claimed up to 12,000 lives, leaving a lasting imprint on the island. Many believe the spirits of the hurricane's victims still linger. Many of Galveston's historic structures have withstood wars, natural disasters, and countless tragic events, contributing to their haunted reputations. The island's role in the Civil War, including the Battle of Galveston, adds another layer to its haunted history. The city has also experienced epidemics that caused numerous deaths, also contributing to Galveston's haunted status. These historical events and tragedies have created a collection of ghost stories and paranormal experiences that intrigue residents and visitors alike. Today, on The Grave Talks, we will discuss The Ghosts of Galveston with Eddy Specter and January Wilson of Eddy Specter's Ghost Tours of Galveston Island. This is Part Two of our conversation. The Gill House in Galion, Ohio, showcases Victorian architecture and a rich history that draws visitors from all over. Built by Bloomer Gill as a grand family home, it quickly gained social prominence, hosting gala events, and had many notable figures visit, including Andrew Firestone, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford. These days, the luminaries no longer stop by, but there are many reports of paranormal activity. Investigators and visitors claim to have heard children's laughter from the attic, and shadowy figures have been spotted moving around the house. The basement offers the most chilling experiences, with visitors reporting disembodied voices, screams, and encounters with a ghostly figure known as Johnny Cake. Bloomer Gill sold the house to the Talbott family, and it seems Old Mrs. Talbot lingers within its walls, evidenced by tapping sounds and swirling mists . Edith Wharton was a prolific American Writer, and at the end of her life, she put together her best ghost stories for publication. In the preface to the book, she wrote, “I don't believe in ghosts, but I'm afraid of them.” In 1901, she and her husband, at the time, built an opulent home they called The Mount. It was their summer home for nine years, before the couple divorced, and Edith moved to France. The Mount went on to become the Foxhollow School for Girls until they closed their doors in 1976. A couple of years later, it became the home of the Shakespeare and Company theatre troupe. In 2001, restoration began on The Mount, and it reopened as a historical museum. It is said that The Mount is haunted. Could the ghosts that Edith Wharton didn't believe in still be there to frighten others? Recently, Crypto Paranormal investigated the home. They are dedicated to the documentation and study of paranormal phenomena and allegedly haunted locations through an objective and scientific lens. What did they find? Today on The Grave Talks, Part Two of Investigating the Mount, with Miranda Arthur-Smith and Nick Smith-Koblitz of Crypto Paranormal Investigations. The Drish House, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is a former plantation home built by Dr. John R. Drish and his wife, Sarah, in 1837. In 1867, tragedy struck when Dr. Drish unexpectedly passed away in the house, the result of a fatal fall down its steep staircase. His widow, Sarah, outlived him by seventeen years, mourning his loss until her demise in 1884. It is said that Sarah utilized ornate candles for John's funeral and kept them with the intention they would be used for her funeral. When Sarah passed, the candles could not be found. The legend is that Sarah, fueled by fury over this oversight, continues to haunt the Drish House to this day. Not long after Sarah's death, a local resident was alarmed to discover a fire burning in the front tower of the home. They notified firefighters. However, when they arrived, there was no sign of a fire. There are some people alive today who say they have also seen the flames in the tower. Some think it is Sarah's spirit lingering in the tower that set the space ablaze, angered—or disappointed—that her husband's candles had not been burned at her funeral. Is there any truth behind that story? We'll talk about it in this episode of the Grave Talks with owners Matt and Nika McCool. This is Part Two of our conversation.
