The Catholic faith presented through the lens of a former Protestant Pastor, who converted and lives under the influence of Saint Benedict and the Rule of Saint Benedict. You can find me on the web at matthewfivesix.wixsite.com/psaltycatholic .
Eternity awaits. Saint Benedict tells us to do now the things that will profit forever. Listening to the Holy Spirit, and being open to what He is leading us to do, is integral in living as lights representing the Light of the world.
The end in mind is that we are to be living joyful portents [signs] of his indwelling presence within us ... signs for others to see. In this episode of Psalty Catholic we look at the 5th Joyful Mystery and the fruit it cultivates in our lives, a reading from the The Rule of Saint Benedict [Prologue 33-38] that points to our need for continual repentance and conversion, and todays Gospel [Matthew 23:27-32] and how Christ's words confront the hypocrisies in our lives.
In this video we consider the 4th Joyful Mystery, a reading from the Prologue of The Rule of Saint Benedict, and today's Gospel reading and how they point us toward living lives of humble childlike obedience. Seek peace. Keep the holy Catholic faith. Pray and persevere.
Many are the voices today calling to us saying "this is the way". It is imperative that we follow safe God-given spiritual guides lest the Enemy deceive us and lead us into deception. In this video we reflect on the Mystery of the Nativity, listen to Saint Benedict's wise counsel, and consider the hierarchical leadership appointed by Christ in his Church. The words that floated out of my mind at 14:00 were "There is no such thing as legitimate spiritual anarchy." I apologize for the wind noise in the one segment.
In this video I further this discussion on The Pathway To Humility. I even break out in song at one point in the video! God bless and let's stay on the pathway.
Christian service, obedience, and proclaiming the Kingdom are essential elements of the Catholic faith. They are essential in the process of our conversion to Christ-likeness. They are also essential in the survival of our Catholic faith in these trying times. I talk about these here in part one. A part two, something of a call to action, is required and will be uploaded next week. Spiritually surviving as Catholic Christians requires us to hold fast to the tools that have been tested by the fiery trials of life over the centuries. In this exhortative series, I use the Rosary Mysteries, The Rule of Saint Benedict, and a Gospel reading to encourage Christians to "hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering" [Hebrews 9:23] as we navigate our way through the changing times that we live in.

We are living in dangerously deceptive times. Spiritually surviving as Catholic Christians requires us to hold fast to the tools that have been tested by the fiery trials of life over the centuries. Praying for the Holy Souls is an important part of our Catholic prayer life. The lack of pastoral emphasis on this necessity does not do away with this realm where the Suffering Church is being made perfect in love. Nor does it cancel the necessity and importance of our prayers for our dearly departed once their physical life on earth has ended.
The Apostle Paul said to pray constantly ... to pray without ceasing. How well answer this universal call to prayer in our lives as Christians?
Christ calls his followers to present a different image to the world ... his image. Being salt and light in this unsavory dark world is not an easy proposition. It is, however, what we must do if we are to be true to Christ's calling.
Wishing all our Psalty Catholic viewers and listeners a very Merry Christmas. Also, here's an update on where we've been since our last episode, where we now are, and where we are headed in 2021.
We want an easy life. But, as followers of Christ, we should expect persecution from Satan and those whom he incites against us.
In this update I talk about our upcoming move, about how Covid-19 has now personally touched our family, about the two books that I have recently published and how you can get them.
Who are these that Jesus calls peacemakers and what is it that they contribute to the world.
Heart purity is one of the essential character traits of those who accept and follow in the way of Christ.
Why is it essential to practice mercy in our lives?
Who are these that Jesus tells us will be satisfied? What is it they crave?
Who are these that Jesus call meek? Why is meekness important in our lives? These are crucial questions in this time of social unrest and upheaval.
Blessed are they that mourn. Who are these mourners that Jesus mentions and what does it mean to mourn?
Blessed are the poor in spirit. What does it mean to be poor in spirit? What did Jesus mean by that and what do we do about it? At the outset of this podcast, I talk about the direction that we will be taking as we develop Psalty Catholic.
In his life and earthly ministry, the Lord Jesus set into motion a way of life that was completely counter-cultural during his time; not only for the little Nation of Israel but also for the pagan nations of the entire world. The Sermon on the Mount is the keynote address introducing the new age which our Lord Jesus came to usher in. Now, here in this century so far removed from time when Jesus walked, talked, and sat among people, we need more than ever to give ourselves to the way of life that Jesus taught.
Converting to the Catholic faith can be a costly and personally painful journey for those leaving Protestantism. The is particularly costly and painful for those of us who were once ordained clergy in the Protestant realm. In this episode I talk about some of it from my own personal experience.
This is a brief introduction to the prayerful way of life practiced by Benedictine monks and religious sisters living in monasteries and by Oblates of Saint Benedict living at large in the world.
