Notes Matthew 5:1-12 Micah 6:1-8 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 Summary In this episode of the Pulpit Fiction Podcast, hosts Eric Fistler and Robb McCoy explore the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Matthew, Micah 6's call for justice and humility, and the message of the cross in 1 Corinthians. They discuss the importance of community relationships in ministry, the depth of the Beatitudes, and the implications of Micah's message for contemporary faith practice. The conversation emphasizes the need for justice, mercy, and humility in the Christian life, while also addressing the foolishness of worldly wisdom in light of God's truth. Takeaways The Beatitudes highlight the values of the Kingdom of God. Building relationships with other Christian communities is essential for support during crises. Micah 6 emphasizes justice, mercy, and humility as core requirements from God. The message of the cross challenges worldly wisdom and power structures. Preachers should focus on the heart of the Beatitudes rather than just the text. Community support is vital for those mourning or in need. The foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom. God chooses the lowly and foolish to confound the wise. The Beatitudes can be explored in depth, offering rich material for sermons. Understanding the context of scripture enhances its application in today's world. Join Bay City Director Tamara Schlatter along with Senior Pastor Josh Pardee and Executive Pastor Nate Murray as they explore the message from week 3 of our current series titled Kingdom Manifesto.
Send us a text In this episode of BuddyWalk with Jesus, we slow down over Matthew 5:5: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” In a tribalized world shaped by algorithms, outrage, and echo chambers, Jesus calls His disciples into a strength that doesn't need to dominate. We unpack what “meek” (praeis) really means—gentleness with backbone, power under control—and why Jesus links it to the promise of inheritance rather than conquest. You'll hear how this Beatitude echoes Psalm 37, why meekness is a form of resistance against online manipulation, and what it looks like to live with conviction without contempt. We'll end with simple practices to help you train meekness in your speech, your reactions, and your digital life. In Kingdom Manifesto: The Revolution of the Blessed, Jesus launches a movement that challenges the world's idea of success. His Beatitudes are a manifesto for a new kind of revolution—one built on mercy, meekness, and grace. Together, we'll discover what it means to live beautifully and courageously in a world desperate for something different.

Dean Karayanis — New York Sun columnist, host of the History Author Show, and former Rush Limbaugh staffer — brings the Yuletide cheer for Derek. A story in Politico alleging that the "How the far right stole Christmas" prompts a discussion of the birth of Jesus Christ being turned into a generic, secular holiday. Plus, what happened to the little girl who wrote letter that led to the most reprinted editorial in the English language, 1897's "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus," in the New York Sun. The stories of "It's a Wonderful Life," "A Charlie Brown Christmas," and of Luxembourg's "American St. Nick" from a tradition begun by GI's in the middle of World War 2. Dean also notes that Christmas marked the 101st birthday of Rod Serling, who's enduring gift is The Twilight Zone's "Night of the Meek," starring Art Carney as a Skid Row Santa Claus.
This week's "At her Career Crossroads" insight comes from Elisha Meek. She says — "That I call my lightning bolt moment. I thought, oh my goodness, my career that I've been tying my whole entire life, my identity to for the past, you know, well over a decade doesn't have to be everything. I didn't wanna quit my career. I loved my job. I loved what I did, but I could have something else." Here are 3 reasons why you should listen to this episode: If you've tied your identity to your career and quietly wonder, is this it?, this conversation will help you name what you're really feeling and why it matters. You'll hear a real example of how adding purpose outside of work can change how burnout shows up — without quitting your job or walking away from success. This episode offers practical encouragement for finding what brings you joy and giving yourself permission to build a life that includes more than your title. If there's one filmmaker who has left a mark more than any other on my life, it's been Kelly Reichardt. Through her work, I've gleaned an understanding of what American life through the ages is like. From the pioneer days captured with a desolate despair in Meek's Cutoff, to the heart shattering singularity of Wendy and Lucy, to the manner that taste and fortune appear in opportunistic ways in First Cow, and now, with her latest film The Mastermind, we see a nation at another nexus point, pushed by the Vietnam War and a changing society to be something different, something possibly more equal. The Mastermind is a bit of a heist film, but it's a heist film in the way that First Cow was a heist film, meaning, the nature of the heist is almost perfunctory in that while it's the instigating action for the film, it's the outcomes of the heist that throws Josh O'Connor's James Blaine Mooney life into disarray. Not that his life wasn't in some level of disarray with the feckless out of work father mooching off his parents, all the while his loving wife Terri (another great turn from Alana Haim) has to look after their kids while also working a full time job.James comes up with the idea to steal four abstract paintings from the local art gallery. What he intends to do with the paintings once he has them, we never find out. But it's also quite likely he has no idea too. Josh O'Connor is easy to watch here, so captivating as someone who thinks he's smarter than he is, but really just needs to be nudged along to make something of his life.Yet, for me, he's not the interesting part of The Mastermind. Instead, I found Kelly Reichardt's interest in the bystanders of the 1972 Worcester Art Museum robbery to be more fascinating. Kelly has talked in the past about her fascination with people stealing art, but what drew her to this robbery in particular was the schoolgirls who were bystanders and observed it happen. She plants similar girls as observers of James Blaine Mooney's heist, and it's through their brief perspective that we're also invited to see the film from the viewpoint of the women of the story. It's an idea which I asked Kelly about in the following interview, which talks about the viewpoints of The Mastermind, while also discussing how Kelly's films view the changing state of America. We close by talking about the importance of accessible art, and what it means to be able to see art in rural or remote areas.Sign up for the latest interviews, reviews, and more via https://www.thecurb.com.au/subscribe/ Hosted on Acast. The Beatitudes have provided generations of Christians comfort, guidance, and strength for their faith. Join Groundwork as we study the first four of Jesus' Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-6 to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be poor in spirit, to mourn, to be meek, and to hunger and thirst for righteousness. We'll also discuss why Jesus promises the kingdom of heaven and blesses those who possess these dispositions, and why he invites us to cultivate them in our own lives of discipleship.
Gods kingdom doesnt work like ours. From a manger birth to a mountain sermon, Jesus rewrites what it means to be blessedexalting the poor in spirit, the meek, and the merciful.
Matthew 5: 5

A gentle and quiet spirit isn't weakness. It is strength under God's control. It reflects trust in His sovereignty, not striving to be seen or heard. This kind of beauty doesn't fade with age. It is lasting, Christlike, and precious in God's sight (1 Peter 3:3–4). If you're struggling to cultivate this spirit in your own life, you're not alone. Ask the Lord to grow it in you. Spend time in His Word. Look to Christ. He is gentle and lowly in heart, and He is faithful to complete the work He begins in us.
