Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. – Matthew 11:29
The sermon on the mount is probably one of the best known and most recognisable teachings of Jesus. It has captured the hearts and imagination of believers over many centuries. It has inspired writings and has shaped western culture. Its influence and significance can not be over stated. As “door keeper” to this great body of teaching we find, what is commonly know as “The Beatitudes”. Sinclair Furgeson says that “The sermon on the mount does not begin with what we are to do as Christians. In a sense it doesn't even begin with telling us what we are to be as Christians. It begins by telling us the blessedness of what we are as Christians.” In the Christian life being is the foundation for doing. Not the other way around. The beatitudes therefore sets the tone, orientates the heart and primes the mind for the profound truths to follow. The Beatitudes have the following unique features:• They reflect the upside down nature of the values of the kingdom of Heaven• The are completely counter cultural. The beatitudes commend values and conditions that the world despises. Even during the time of Jesus.• They assume hostility and persecution. Because of its contrary values they bring us into a world that is hostile. • They describe the blessed, happy, favoured and fortunate condition that all who follow Jesus find themselves in.• They therefore do not refer to 8 different kinds of people but rather reflect on the state of all believers.

Jesus adds another one to his "string of blessings" we call the Beatitudes, and this one isn't any less confusing than the first two. Jesus, instead of advocating for aggression and a go-getter attitude, he tells his followers that meekness is one of the keys to a blessed life.

Called to HOLINESS #1 This is not a clever chosen topic, it's a God calling for every Christian. By Pastor George Lehman ”A man is what he appears in God's eyes, and not the slightest bit more.” We can outwardly put on an OSCAR award performance. But God knows. For us to see Jesus active and alive in our lives and our ministry “Holiness must be our lifestyle.” Romans 11:36 (Amp) – For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.(For all things originate with Him and come from Him; all things live through Him and all things center in and tend to consummate and to end in Him] To Him be glory forever! Amen (so be it). Romans 12:1 (Amp) – I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your seasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. I don't believe God is going to do a new thing. (Isaiah 43) I read this prophetic word that went out some time ago ! Explain: God sitting as a judge in a Court room, banging with His gavel saying: “Order in My House” Order comes when we put things back the way they were or where they are supposed to be. Jeremiah 6:16 This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads* and look; ask where the good old way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Crossroads = is a place of decision-making. We all want new Revelations, new interesting facts and new understanding As God's church we have chased after New Things. And been disobedient to the Old Things. We have sadly allowed the basic old way to slip by and therefore our foundation has crumbled. We've become educated beyond our obedience. (We know more than what we are obedient to.) The New Converts pick up the bad habits of the old people. God wants us to have “Revival.” Revival is to bring back an active life that was once in our hearts and lifestyle. Isaiah 66:1-2 - “This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place? 2 My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! “I will bless those who have humble and contrite*(Berouvolle) hearts, who tremble at my word. Hosea 10:12 - “It's time to Sow Righteousness, its time to break up your unplowed ground, for its time to seek the Lord. Make a choice to Plow up That hardened heart, that disobedient lifestyle, that half hearted commitment. God is calling His children to a “A life of Holiness” Holiness is not: A once off experience, a Feeling or an emotion or an optional extra. It's a direct result of a Jesus filled heart. A life of Holiness without Jesus in your heart is not possible. 1 Peter 1:15-16 (Amp) - 15“But as the One who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living.” 16“For it is written You shall be holy for I AM holy.” Leviticus 11:44 – “I Am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I Am holy….” Holiness: Greek word used Hagiasmos and means: Sanctify – Purity – clean – to be different (dedicated to God's purpose- Set apart.) 2 Corinthians 5:17 (Amp) -Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! Jesus prayed this for us in John 17:15-19 - “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by[a] the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. Can I just say this? The holiness we are seeking goes much deeper than merely cleaning the outside of the cup. (Luke 11:39) we whitewash but God washes white. True holiness does not come from following rules – (so many Christians make up their own set of rules about Holiness what's right of wrong in their own minds – what God's word says is not to important.) Holiness comes from following Jesus Christ Being different being like Jesus John 3:30 - “He must increase, but I must decrease. [He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so.] Galatians 5:25 (Msg) - Since this is the kind of life we have chosen the life of the spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. This must be our Goal – our aim and our Determination. If your goals are less than Christ likeness If you are happy and content with yourself This word on Holiness will pass right over you. Isaiah 66:2 - This is the man to whom I will look and have regarded him who is Humble. HUMILITY PRECEDES HOLINESS!!! Allen Bond - “The bigger I grow in God, the smaller I become.” A holy man is a humble man. Why discuss Humility, while on the subject of Holiness? Simply because holiness is the product of grace and God gives grace only to the Humble. Jesus said: Matthew 11:29 - “Learn of me. I am gentle (meek) and humble in heart.” The holiest, most powerful voice that ever spoke described Himself as: Gentle, Meek, and Humble in heart. It's important we understand, Jesus did not condemn sinners. He condemned hypocrites. A hypocrite is a person who excuses his own sin while condemning the sins of another. No one can remain a hypocrite and find Holiness at the same time. That's why everyday the first step we take to Sanctification* (to be: Pure, clean, different, set apart and dedicated to His purpose.) Is admitting we are not as Holy as what we would like to appear. This 1st step is called Humility 1 Peter 5:5 (LB) - God gives special blessings to those who are humble but sets Himself against those who are Proud. Pride is the only a disease known to man that makes everyone sick except the one who has it. It's at the crossroad*(Place of decision) that: Holy men and Hypocrites are Bred. Those who choose Holiness see their need: Repent, change and pay the price, make the adjustments and “Run to win” Those who choose to be Hypocrites see their sin, excuse it and remain unchanged. A life of Holiness Begins with our determined refusal to hide from the condition of our hearts It will call for deep, serious honesty – everyday. So many Christians want to live double lives: Holy when it's convenient. Unholy when it's inconvenient. The very sad part of all this is: so many think it's okay! Think about this: Hebrews 12:14 - Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue that consecration and Holiness, without which no one will (ever) see the Lord. “ORDER IN MY HOUSE.” “What kind of house will you build for ME?” asks God A half-hearted attempt is a wholehearted failure! A man is what he appears in God's eyes, and not the slightest bit more.

Part I - "Stone/DiEugenio Interview by Katie Halper". View here. "The Nothingburgers? Nope". Read Here. Jim's latest book "The JFK Assassination Chokeholds: That Prove There Was A Conspiracy" - Find here. National Archives - JFK Files - Read here. Jim recommends "The Man Who Knew Too Much" by Dick Russell. Purchase Book Here Despite new information about Oswald in the recently released JFK files, mainstream media says "nothing new". In the files there is more info about Oswald's 201 file, Mexico City, Helsinki, Castro etc.. When Oswald was released from the Marines it was from a "hardship discharge", using Marguerite's injuries as an excuse. Typically it takes a few months for the marines to investigate hardship claims but Lee's was approved with in just 11 days. When Lee left the Marines, it was 9 months earlier than when he was scheduled to be released. Rosaleen Quinn who dated Oswald while he was in California recalled Lee was more fluent in Russian than she was. After being discharged, Oswald was only in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for 72 hours before heading to New Orleans. Oswald leaves from New Orleans to France, using the same travel agency as the International Trade Mart. Coincidence? Why was Oswald going to Helsinki important? Was it because Helsinki processed visas within 48 hours? After travelling on a freighter to Europe, Oswald goes to Helsinki & stayed at the Hotel Torni. How did Oswald afford this? Oswald participated in a planned, fake defection program. Without government assistance, how would he afford a 4 star hotel? The Warren Commission avoided going into the intricate details of Oswald's movements and activity in Helsinki. WC investigator David Slawson was definitely curious about Oswald's trip to Helsinki. The CIA and FBI were the main sources of information for the Warren Commission. In 1963-1964, early investigators such as Mark Lane & Joachim Joesten who suspected CIA and government involvement. CIA 1971 memo - appears to have been debate in the CIA whether Kostikov was ever involved in Dept 13. Have you read the Lopez Report? Read here. If Oswald was in Mexico City, why isn't there any photographs or video of Oswald going into the different embassies? Why has the CIA never been able to produce a tape of Oswald's voice? On the Nov 22nd the CIA sent a tape of what they said was Oswald's voice to the FBI interrogating Oswald in Dallas. David Atlee Phillips put out a cover story - all of the Oswald tapes had been destroyed. The Lopez report contradicts this. Dan Hardway and Edwin Lopez wrote up bills of indictment for both Phillips and Anne Goodpasture Anne Goodpasture was Winston Scott's exec assistant. Pulse camera outside of the Cuban Embassy, activated by the door of the Cuban consulate opening & closing. Such a sensitive camera, yet no photos of Oswald? David Phillips claimed the camera was "out that day". The CIA did not want this information included in the volumes of the HSCA investigation. Was the whole Mexico City event a charade? Was the story about Kostikov the capper on the charade with Oswald? Was Oswald working with Kostikov and at the direction of the KGB? The KGB may have hired Richard Case Nagell to find out who was behind the pending plot to kill JFK. Jim recommends watching the 2014 AARC interview with Dan Hardway & Edwin 'Eddie' Lopez. Watch here. Hardway and Lopez worked out of CIA headquarters reviewing files and information until Joannides complicated matters. After Joannides got involved in hampering the investigation, files would be slow and redacted. The HSCA was shut down at the end of 1978 and decreased to a skeleton crew prior to publishing. What wasn't released in the HSCA volumes, was to be classified until 2029. Oliver Stone's "JFK" changed all of that. Part Two - Jeffery Meek In April 3rd, a lawsuit filed by the Nix family against the Sixth...
In this special episode of our show we had the immense pleasure to sit down for a conversation with Jon Raymond, who is a novelist short fiction writer and a screenwriter. He is also a lifelong collaborator with Kelly Reichardt, with whom he co-wrote six movies (including three out of four we talked about this month). We talk about his process and his inspirations as a writer and a prominent champion of the American Pacific North West. We also attempt to untangle the complex relationship between a writer and a director and how it works in the context of independent cinema, his opinion on some of the characters we talked about this month, and we also try to find out if there is in fact some wisdom behind the title of Meek's Cutoff. On February 7th, 2023, Chris Meek interviewed Joel for the podcast Next Steps Forward, and explored: Does God Exist? How does meditation reveal God? What is the nature of evil? Where does God exist? Can we experience God directly? Why are we here on earth? What is the purpose of life? Why does God ask us to struggle? Does morality matter? Is there life after death? What is a koan? Next Steps Forward is a podcast hosted by Chris Meek, the Mission Statement of the podcast: Personal empowerment, commitment to our own well-being and the motivation to achieve more than we ever thought possible are the ingredients of a better life. And, they're all within our reach. Next Steps Forward with Chris Meek delves into each aspect of the three keys that add energy, excitement, direction and purpose to everything that we do. Each week, Chris hosts leaders from the worlds of business, sports, entertainment, medicine, politics and public policy as they engage in thought-provoking discussions to help us all take the next step forward on our own journeys to our better selves and greater service to others. Biography Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of SoldierStrong, Chris Meek has been recognized for his philanthropy with the President's Call to Service Award, March of Dimes Franklin Delano Roosevelt Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award, Syracuse University's Orange Circle Award, the ACT-IAC “Game Changer” Award, and was named a “Face of Philanthropy” by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. He discusses resiliency, empowerment, and leadership through adversity on his weekly podcast, “Next Steps Forward with Chris Meek,” via VoiceAmerica network's Empowerment Channel. Next Steps Forward is his first book. Joel David Lesses founded the Education Training Center as a means of counseling those marginalized by trauma, addiction and psychological distress, and its effects including incarceration, homelessness and institutionalization. He is dedicated to reframing mental health distress as a potential spiritual marker. Joel has lived in Nepal and Israel and is also a poet expressing the landscape of the mystical elements of our human beings. He believes world religion, poetry, spirituality, and meditation encompass the most vital aspects of our mind and life. The crux of his own personal journey are the questions and answers to his own koan or inquiry: “what is the matter with me?” revealing the individual and universal aspects of our inherent and potent creativity. Everything is flux, everything is poetry. His other passions include the intersection of poetry, spirituality, science, and phenomenology shared and disparate in the human experience, with the transformative power of self-inquiry and introspection through contemplative and meditative practices. Joel holds the belief that the fundamental transformation of individuals and our collective comes through barreling inward, relentlessly asking the questions, “Who am I?” or “What am I” or “What is the matter with me?” The latter being a question which after years of examination, shattered a false sense of self, the work of integration of that experience being an ongoing work in progress.
In this episode of the show we continue our journey West together with Kelly Reichardt and Michelle Williams as we discuss her 2010 anti-western Meek's Cutoff. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about Reichardt subverting the expectations of a typical western and how critics at the time clearly didn't get it, how the movie gives its women protagonists agency and how it functions as a takedown of the American Dream. We also talk about how expensive cheap films probably are, how important it is to take a chair to a lookout and just how unrecognizable Bruce Greenwood was in his trapper getup.Tune in and enjoy!Hosts: Jakub Flasz & Randy BurrowsIntro: Infraction - CassetteOutro: Infraction - DaydreamHead over to uncutgemspodcast.com to find all of our archival episodes and more!Follow us on Twitter (@UncutGemsPod), IG (@UncutGemsPod) and Facebook (@UncutGemsPod)Buy us a coffee over at Ko-Fi.com (ko-fi.com/uncutgemspod)Subscribe to our Patreon! Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: Student teaching preparing Georgia Gwinnett College students for career in education The teaching profession in Georgia is projected to grow 11% by 2030, and Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is preparing future educators to meet this demand. Graduating in May, Sumayyah Yoonas and Natalia Diaz Vega share unique journeys to teaching, inspired by personal experiences and a passion for helping students. GGC alumnus Dustin Wilson, now a fifth-grade teacher, emphasizes the rewards of fostering student growth. The role of AI in education is also evolving, with these educators using it for lesson planning, critical thinking, and student engagement while encouraging balanced use. STORY 2: Gwinnett seeking grant to upgrade pond at Shorty Howell Park Gwinnett County commissioners approved applying for an $808,830 grant to upgrade Shorty Howell Park's natural landscape. The project will replace the park's aging pond with a stormwater wetland and rain garden, improving stormwater management, water quality, and aesthetics while serving as an educational resource. If awarded, the county will contribute $539,220 in matching funds. STORY 3: Gwinnett planning pedestrian improvements at two I-85 overpasses Gwinnett County plans to enhance pedestrian safety on two bridges over I-85 by adding fencing and new crosswalks at Center Way and Brook Hollow Parkway. The $4.78 million project, funded by the 2017 SPLOST program, was awarded to E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. and is expected to take 130 days to complete after work begins. Alabama's challenge was dismissed, with the court citing negligible impacts on Alabama's water supply. This ruling follows decades of litigation and complements Georgia's 2021 Supreme Court win over Florida regarding water consumption impacts. Officials praised the decision, emphasizing responsible water management and collaboration among stakeholders. STORY 5: Economic development researcher expects local, state economies to outperform nation Metro Atlanta and Georgia are expected to outperform the national economy due to strong investments in logistics, healthcare, ports, and manufacturing recovery, according to Alfie Meek of Georgia Tech's Economic Development Research. However, challenges like persistent inflation, high mortgage rates, and slow wage growth in low-wage sectors remain nationwide. Meek also predicts slight unemployment increases and limited Federal Reserve rate cuts. Despite this, U.S. manufacturing shows promise with fewer regulations and lower energy costs. Over 200 Gwinnett business leaders attended the event, aiming to leverage these insights for sustained growth. Break 3: Ingles Markets 9 And now here is Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on seed oils *** INGLES ASK LEAH (SEED OILS)*** We’ll have closing comments after this Break 4: MONSTER JAM Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Episode NotesEpisode 94: Matthew 5-7 - Two Kingdoms, One Choice: The Sermon on the Mount in One EpisodeMarch 26, 2025 - Host: Dr. Gregory HallIn this episode we'll be talking about Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. It spans nearly three chapters in Matthew's gospel… and it will challenge you to rethink many assumptions you may have had about how this life of ours should be lived. This is a quick flyover looking at the structure of the sermon. Resources Referenced and/or Read:Where Luke puts the blessings and woes together... Matthew separates them out into two separate discourses and on two separate mountains.1. Matt 5:3 - kingdom opened vs. Matthew 23:13 - Kingdom shut2. Matt 5:4 - Mourners comforted vs. Matt 23:14 - Mourners distressed3. Matt 5:5 - Meek inherit the earth vs Matt 23:15 - fanatic compassing the earth trying to gain control4. Matt 5:6 - True righteousness sought vs Matt 23:16-22 seeking a template for righteousness.5. Matt 5:7 - Merciful obtain mercy vs. Matt 23:23-24 - mercy neglected6. Matt 5:8 - purity within vs Matt 23:25-26 - external purity7. Matt 5:9 - Makers of peace vs. Matt 23:27-28 - makers of lawlessness8. Matt 5:10-12 - The persecuted vs. Matt 23:29-33 - The persecutors Gage, W. A., & Carpenter, S. P. (2014). A Literary Guide to the Life of Christ in Matthew, Mark, and Luke-Acts: How the Synoptic Evangelists Tell the Story of Jesus (p. 35). St. Andrews House. The Dual Reference to “the Law and the Prophets”This placement of this phrase in the sermon (5:17; 7:12) marks off the main body of Jesus' teaching in the sermon. The two occurrences of the phrase establish an inclusio, a kind of envelope, for holding the teachings of Jesus in which he challenges the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees.Deppe, Dean B.
