This week the cinematographer and steadicam operator Ghitta Larsen whose credits include The Shop, My Kind of People, 90 Day Fiance, Meek. Ghitta was born in Sonoma, CA in 1994. She has a younger brother Anthony who is a jazz musician. Her mother Sylvia, an architect, constantly encouraged Ghitta to pursue her talents in a variety of sports. A challenge that Ghitta took seriously which resulted in her becoming a competitive swimmer at age nine. From there she discovered water polo and, in her words, became obsessed with the sport, playing for the Central Coast ODP team at Sonoma Valley High School and then Division 1 in Southern California during college at Cal State Northridge, which led to joining the Olympic Development Program. When she moved to New York Ghitta explored weightlifting and became competitive. She says she still has unfinished business in this arena but for now she is into Cross Fit, which also helps her core strength for camera work. During her sports career Ghitta studied film, graduating from the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in Film & TV. in 2016. Her first job combined her love of filming with the sport of cross fit and since then she has widened her aperture to include music videos, shorts and TV. She enjoys thought provoking genres, including horror movies and has ambitions to explore underwater photography too, which would combine her love for swimming.  Currently she is spending most of her time as a camera operator and as a DP. John Musick continues our series on the Beatitudes by picking up on the third beatitude: "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:5)

Jesus spoke of the meek in the beatitudes.  Who are they?  What will they inherit?

And as I've been studying it this time around, I've also run into a number of pastors and theologians who think of the Sermon on the Mount as basic training for people heading into a spiritual battle. Knowing what his followers were going to face in the days and years to come Jesus took them on the mountain and said, “This is how you fight my battles.” Blessed are the meek. Not much like any battle strategy we'd consider on our own, but I believe it's crucial to understanding how we need to respond to the spiritual battle in our days. What comes to mind when you paint a picture of meek? Well meek is weak right? Blessed are the weak for they shall become the doormats of life and everyone will walk all over them. In fact Webster defines meek as TOO submissive. Blessed are the spineless, for they never stick up for their rights. Blessed are those who never take a stand. Webster calls them spiritless and deficient in courage. But Jesus calls them blessed.Perhaps as much or maybe even more so than a heart that leans toward mourning today, we need a heart that leans towards meek. But maybe, meek is a bit different from what we think? Maybe it really is true, mighty are the meek.

VAT advocates for the protection of every human's rights regardless of race, gender, culture, or socio-economic status.  Voices Against Trafficking-The Strength of Many Voices Speaking As One, gives a portion of proceeds from each sale to survivors of child abuse and trafficking, as does Andi's first book,  A Fragile Thread of Hope - One Survivor's Quest to Rescue. Andi launched Voices Of Courage magazine in 2023.  It is distributed internationally and accepted into the U.S. Library of Congress. It honors everyday heroes who selflessly fight to protect human rights. These champions come from all walks of life to change communities and the world for the better. A television series by the same title debuts in 2025. Chris Meek: Dr. Chris Meek is co-founder, chairman, and CEO of SoldierStrong, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that focuses on helping America's servicemen, women, and veterans take their next steps forward. He has been recognized for his work in philanthropy with the President's Call to Service Award (2011), March of Dimes Franklin Delano Roosevelt Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award (2012), Syracuse University's Orange Circle Award (2014), the ACT-IAC “Game Changer” Award (2020), and was named a “Face of Philanthropy” by the Chronicle of Philanthropy (2021). In addition to Meek's work as a philanthropist, he has been a financial services executive for over 25 years working at S&P Global, State Street Global Advisors, and Goldman Sachs. He holds a BA in economics and political science from Syracuse University, an MBA in financial management from Pace University in New York City, and an MPA from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. He is a doctoral candidate in organizational change and leadership at the University of Southern California. Meek serves as adjunct professor at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on nonprofit management and board governance. She has partnered with countless other organizations to provide food, resources, tutoring, Ndestructible 7 Life Coaching, and encouragement to hundreds. She is the author of over twenty books, most of which are focused on restoration, and is a documentary filmmaker. In 2020, she became an Emancipation Brand Ambassador for COL1972 and spokesperson for GAE Coalition. Previously, Lisa served in an Executive Board capacity for state affiliates of No Left Turn in Education, Women for Trump, and Rotary International. Rev. Dr. Babbage is the current First Vice Chair of the Georgia Black Republican Council.  Eric Caron: Eric J.
