We continue our study of the Sermon on the Mount and come now to the Beatitude of meekness. This is a quality of the Christian that is often misunderstood and overlooked. Yet, we work to consider the Biblical understanding of the word and also see many examples in the Scripture of men and women who displayed this. Jesus himself is the chief example, for he did not revile and threaten when he was unjustly tried and crucified, but entrusted himself to the Father.

Some things in life don't work the way you think they should.Trying to fall asleep often just makes you feel more awake.
The more you force a conversation on a first date, the more awkward it gets.
The tighter you grip a golf club, the worse your swing usually is.Sometimes the thing that actually works feels completely backwards.Jesus talked like that too. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”This Sunday we're continuing our series through the Beatitudes and exploring the upside down wisdom of Jesus.

The Beatitudes | Blessed Are the Meek – Strength Under Control What does it really mean to be meek? In a world that often celebrates self-promotion, power, and proving yourself, Jesus says: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5). In this message, we explore how biblical meekness is not weakness or passivity, but strength under control — knowing your worth and value in God without needing to constantly prove it to others. Drawing from the lives of Moses, David, James, and ultimately Jesus Himself, we see that meek people: • Give their cause to God instead of defending themselves endlessly • Wait on the Lord rather than forcing outcomes • Are slow to speak, quick to listen, and slow to anger At the centre of the message is the example of Christ — the King who wore a crown of thorns, remained silent before His accusers, and knew exactly who He was without needing to prove it. We also reflect on the deeper issues that hinder meekness: pride, inadequacy, fear of rejection, and the need for validation. Through the Gospel, we're invited to discover a different way of living — rooted in identity, gratitude, and the secure love of God.

When Jesus pronounces blessing on those who are meek he isn't addressing those who are weak and ineffectual but rather those who may have power and privilege but choose to hold them in reserve.

Why not?” The best thing about MEEK? There is a point to her. She is as if the comedy queen, Daisy May Cooper stumbled into a charity shop, found a bunch of glittering second hand couture, dolled herself up shamelessly in it, injected the raw spirit of Freddie Mercury and emerged, Mr Ben style, as a fully-fledged MEGASTAR in the making out of the changing rooms, then lead a troubadour of misfits singing down the high street. There is not what you might call a shortage of self-confidence in MEEK.
