The Foreign Intelligence Threat to the U.S.: Russia, China and Other Bad Actors James Bruce, Ph.D., is a former senior executive officer at CIA, an adjunct researcher and former Senior Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown and Florida Atlantic Universities. He also taught as an adjunct at Columbia and American Universities and as a full-time faculty member at the National War College.

Teaching Democracy: Civics and Civility in the Classroom and Beyond Originally from the South Side of Chicago, Deval Patrick came to Massachusetts at the age of 14, when he was awarded a scholarship to Milton Academy through the Boston-based organization A Better Chance. After Harvard College and Harvard Law School, he clerked for a federal appellate judge and then launched a career as an attorney and business executive, becoming a staff attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a partner at two Boston law firms and a senior executive at two Fortune 50 companies.

Notable political journalist Amy Walter digs through the flood of information leading up to the 2020 election to share what she believes are the fundamentals of what you need to know in her seminar "State of Play - The 2020 Election". Walter, host of the podcast "Politics with Amy Walter," is a frequent contributor to CBS's Face the Nation, FOX News Sunday, PBS's Washington Week and Fox News' Special Report with Bret Baier. Author and presidential historian Richard Norton Smith speaks to the Steamboat Springs audience about what it means to be presidential in his talk "How Do You Get To Mt. Rushmore: Can Presidential Character Be Set In Stone?" Smith is a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for his first book, "Thomas E. Dewey and His Times." He is also author of "An Uncommon Man: The Triumph of Herbert Hoover" and his most recent book, "The Colonel: The Life and Legend of Robert R. McCormick," which has been awarded the Goldsmith Prize by Harvard's John F. Kennedy School. This Seminar was recorded on August 5, 2019.

Robert Daly is the director of the Wilson Center's Kissinger Institute on China and the United States. He has testified before congress, lectured widely in both China and the U.S. and regularly offers media analysis. He spoke as part of the Seminars at Steamboat lecture series with his presentation "U.S./China Relations: Can We Step Back From the Brink."

He’s the winner of a MacArthur Genius Grant, and currently serves as the Teresa and John Heinz Professor of Environmental Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Welcome to the first installment of this summer's Seminars at Steamboat, lectures on important public policy issues recorded at the Strings Music Pavilion in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The following seminar features Edward Alden, senior fellow on the Council of Foreign Relations, specializing on U.S. economic competitiveness, trade, and immigration policy, and the author of "Failure to Adjust: How Americans Got Left Behind in the Global Economy." Edward Alden shares his perspectives on international trade policy.
