The Nazi Study of India and Indian Anti-Colonialism (2024) is the first detailed and critical study of the intellectual and political connections that existed between some German scholars specializing on India, non-academic ‘India experts,' Indian anti-colonialists and various organs of the Nazi state published by the Oxford University Press. It explores the ways in which different knowledge discourses pertaining to India, particularly its colonization and the anti-colonial movement, were used by these individuals for a number of German organisations to fulfil the demands of Nazi politics. This monograph also inspects the links between the knowledge providers and embodiments of National Socialist politics like the Nazi party and its affiliates. In this study, Baijayanti Roy aims to ascertain whether such political engagements were actually more rewarding for the scholars than their 'practical services' to the state in the form of strategic deployment of their knowledge of India. The Nazi Study of India and Indian Anti-Colonialism offers case studies of four organisations which incorporated such complicated entanglements of knowledge and power: the India Institute of the Deutsche Akademie in Munich, the Special Department India of the German Foreign Ministry, the Seminar for Oriental languages and its successor institutions at the University of Berlin, and the Indian Legion of the German Army. The knowledge networks underlying these organisations were dominated by German Indologists, but non-specialist knowledge providers, both German and Indian were also included. The Nazi regime expected all scholars and intellectuals to engage in Kulturpolitik (cultural politics), which entailed propagating the glories of the 'Reich' and its supreme leader as well as collecting 'politically valuable' knowledge within and outside Germany. For the four organizations concerned, this meant conducting pro-German and from around 1938, anti-British propaganda aimed at Indians. Loosely following an analogy provided by Herbert Mehrtens in the context of natural sciences, this monograph posits that there were ‘patterns of collaboration' between the knowledge providers and the representatives of the Nazi regime. At the core of these 'patterns' was, to borrow Mitchell Ash's theory, an exchange of resources and capital in which scholars and experts offered their knowledge of Indian languages, history and culture to authorities like the Foreign Ministry, the SS and the Army.   Sei immer klar in deinem Denken, Handeln und Tun. Das ist einer der wichtigsten Schritte in der Verhandlung und in der Kommunikation. Frag dich immer wieder: Wie würde das ein Erfolgreicher machen? Wir sagen viel zu oft ja, obwohl wir nein meinen – und das ist eine Katastrophe. Es ist dein Leben, deine Zeit, deine Spielregeln. Stell dir eine Sanduhr vor: Der Lebenssand läuft. Deshalb: Sei sparsam und geizig mit deiner Zeit. Mach keine Ausnahmen, die du eigentlich nicht willst. Eine Ausnahme führt zur nächsten – und am Ende ins Chaos. Ein Beispiel: Bei meinem St.-Moritz–Ähm-Seminar wollte jemand seinen Hund und jemand seine Frau mitbringen. Ich habe klar gesagt: Natürlich darfst du das, aber es passt nicht rein, und du wirst keine Zeit haben. Die Seminare sind intensiv: Wir sind viel im Freien, in Hotels, beim Essen, an der Bar – überall wird trainiert. Da passt kein Fremdling dazu. Wer jemanden mitbringt, landet schnell im Stress: Der Partner langweilt sich, beschwert sich, der Teilnehmer bekommt ein schlechtes Gewissen und ist nicht mehr fokussiert. Ein Teufelskreis. Darum: klar, konkret, messbar und unmissverständlich kommunizieren. Wenn jemand nicht will, ist das völlig okay – aber du sollst dich nicht verbiegen. Viele verstehen nicht, was wirklich dahintersteckt. Manche denken, Seminare seien locker und man hätte abends frei. Aber so arbeite ich nicht. Wir trainieren morgens, mittags, abends. Es geht um Entwicklung. Und Entwicklung braucht klare Strukturen. Egal in welcher Situation: Sag, wie die Spielregeln laufen. Wie im Sport: Alles ist geregelt, alles ist klar. Wenn du selbst alles offen lässt, bekommst du unnötigen Stress – mit Mitarbeitern, Partnern, Lieferanten. Ziel ist Gelassenheit: Stress vermeiden, souverän bleiben. Je souveräner du bist, desto leistungsfähiger bist du – privat wie beruflich. Ich wünsche mir für dich, dass du klare, konkrete, messbare und unmissverständliche Strukturen hast. Denn dann findest du innere Ruhe und bekommst viel mehr geschafft. Letztlich geht es doch um Lebensqualität. Je mehr Lebensqualität wir haben, desto erfolgreicher sind wir. Oder wie Dr. Zalgari sagt: „Wenn du zu viele Schubladen offen hast, wirst du wahnsinnig." Also: Schließ die Schubladen. Hab klare Strukturen. Dann macht das Leben viel mehr Spaß. In this Research Seminar, Dr Zairu Nisha (University of Delhi) explores infertility among Muslim women in India through feminist bioethics and phenomenology. She introduces the concept of the body as a site of moral injury, showing how reproductive expectations, religious belief, and assisted reproductive technologies shape women's moral identities and lived experiences.Drawing on thinkers such as Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Simone de Beauvoir, Dr Nisha challenges mind–body dualism and argues that the body is not separate from the self, but a moral subject formed through relationships with others. Peter Robbins returns to the show, and we talk about his return to the UK and Rendlesham, and then get into the life and research of Wilhelm Reich. If you are not familiar with the man, you should be. You will see why on this show. Peter is of course best known for his work on the Rendlesham Forest case, but has an extensive resume dealing with Reich as well. Peter Robbins was first introduced to the books of Wilhelm Reich as a teenager by a college roommate, to whom he remains deeply indebted. In 1976 he met Dr. Elsworth F. Baker, Reich's first assistant for the last eleven years of his life. Soon after this he became a patient of Dr. Baker and entered into almost seven years of medical orgone therapy with the distinguished orgonomist.Robbins went on to enroll in the classes New York University offered in scientific and social orgonomy which was taught by the Reich scholars Professors John Bell and Paul Matthews. They in turn invited him to become a member of their ongoing Seminar in Social and Scientific Orgonomy, patterned after the seminars which Sigmund Freud presided over during the nineteen twenties. Peter spent much of the nineteen eighties involved with this group, presenting a variety of papers to his fellow seminar members under Matthews' and Bell's guidance and leadership.Peter was a volunteer fundraiser for the American College of Orgonomy's (ACO) Building Fund and had two papers on Wilhelm Reich and UFOs published in the Journal of Orgonomy. He was part of a select group of volunteers invited to witness a demonstration of cloudbusting technology and presented on the subject of Reich and UFOs at the ACO's Princeton NJ facility, and at international conferences on the life and work of Reich in New York City, Ashland Oregon, Niece France and Karavomilos Greece. His lectures have been well received at numerous scientific and UFO conferences both here and abroad while his articles on the subject have been published in a variety of print and web publications. Robbins' extensively researched paper, “Politics, Religion and Human Nature: Practical Problems and Roadblocks on the Path Toward Official UFO Acknowledgment” is scheduled to be published in the upcoming issue of Annals of the Institute for Orgonomic Science. Episode 91 Friends, this is a catch up with Greta episode! There is a lot going on in life and a lot I wanted to tell you about so… here we are.
