This morning, June 5, 2025, Prasanthi Nilayam witnessed a glorious event as over 600 young souls were initiated onto the spiritual path through the Sacred Thread Investiture Ceremony, known as Upanayanam. But what exactly does the word ‘Upanayanam' mean? Why is wearing the sacred thread—also called janeu or yagnopavit—such a significant tradition in Indian culture? How has Bhagawan celebrated Upanayanam ceremonies in Prasanthi over the years? And why is the chanting of the Gayatri Mantra such an integral part of this sacred ritual?Bhagawan has clearly and profoundly explained all these aspects of this ancient rite, revealing deep spiritual insights that are both enlightening and uplifting. This Satsang seeks to reflect upon these powerful pearls drawn from the vast ocean of Sai literature.
