Pastor Rob Brooks. Tehachapi Church of the Nazarene Romans 5: 1-8 Have you ever known someone that every turn they made seemed to be the wrong turn. I mean, if they went right, the better turn was left. If they went straight forward, they should have probably just turn around and went back. When even the easiest of decisions were at play, the less than best decision was usually made? When I was very young, there was a time when I thought that I just couldn't get anything right. I would wonder, could I even go a week, just one week, without making the wrong decisions, was there a way that I could go a week without doing or just being wrong? In our spiritual lives, we sometimes ask the same questions. Am I right with God? Am I doing what He desires for me to do? What is my standing with God? How can I just, GET IT RIGHT? The Good News is this, we have been made right with God, The Apostle Paul assures us of this. This is very comforting to us, especially when it seems that we get it wrong so much of the time.

We want to, we desire to see others and respond to them the way that Jesus did and does, but we are ingrained from the very beginning to see others with a slant. The question is, "What Do I See?" A clearer vision is needed. Jesus shows us a better way to engage others as He meets with the woman at the well. Let's drink from the well this Sunday as we share from John 4:7-11. See you at TNAZ.

Pastor Rob Brooks. Tehachapi Church of the Nazarene At this time of the year, especially as we approach the wonderful day of Christmas, many will be experiencing the joyous occasion of family gatherings, the opening of presents and sitting at tables together, sharing in scrumptious meals. It truly is, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". There's another reality, though. At this time of year there will be those who are living in fear, feeling a sense, or even a reality of loneliness. There are even those who are living with a deep sense of sorrow. This is not to attempt to crash our festive spirits, but it is a reminder of the realities that Mary and Joseph went through, having their normal turned upside down. The joy that can come, regardless of our circumstance is the reality of knowing, "GOD WITH US!" In the midst of our fear, in the middle of our loneliness, right at the center of our sorrow, God is with us! Join us, this Sunday, as we share from Matthew 1:18-25.

Pastor Rob Brooks. Tehachapi Church of the Nazarene There’s only about two weeks until Christmas! As a child, when this time would come, the anticipation became unbearable. We had been asked, “what do you want for Christmas?” We had submitted our answers and now waited in great anticipation for what was coming. Christmas morning would arrive, and we would soon realize all that we had hoped for. On that grand morning we would begin opening presents, and soon it would become clear that what lie beneath the beautiful wrappings, what was nestled below the bow and gift-tag was not exactly what we were hoping for. That may sound spoiled, but leading up to the big day were commercials, lists, questions about what we wanted for Christmas, with the raised eyebrow and wink of an eye that said, you just might get what you’re hoping for. Join us, this Sunday, as we sit with John the Baptist, in a prison cell. He’s asking a question, it’s a question that we all ask at one time or another. (Matthew 11:2-11)

Things like, a good home, health and family will probably dominate our thoughts. There’s nothing quite like sitting down with our families and sharing in a thanksgiving meal. Pastor Rob Brooks, Tehachapi Church of the Nazarene Luke 18:1-8 It has been said, wrongly I might add, that all we can count on is death and taxes. While this is usually said sarcastically and somewhere around April 15th, it can feel as though there is some truth to the statement, but its base thought is derived from a sense of hopelessness. Just as those who feel the glass is half empty, so is the sense within our culture that all is loss! As followers of Jesus, our outlook for our world and even our own culture as well as the church, should exude confidence. There is hope in our world, all is not loss because of Jesus. What are you counting on today? Who are you counting on today? Is what or who you are counting on rooted and derived from the current debates of our day? Is it in a political party or social ideas? Or is it in the One who brings hope to the hopeless? Are you just rolling the dice in hopes of a better future or following the One who gives you life, value and purpose?

Yet, knowing and understanding is what God wants to teach us, but we must have open eyes and yes, open ears to receive. We must do away with pride, we must repent of any sin in our lives, and not be rebellious against His Word. Jesus came to bring spiritual sight to those who are blind. If you have ever planted a garden, whether you have a green thumb or not, you probably have learned that there is a right way and there is a wrong way to go about growing good produce. Needless to say, getting the soil ready for a good garden is as essential as it is to the planting of seeds, watering, pulling weeds or harvesting. Sowing is part of what it takes to plant a good garden. And if we sow or plant sparingly, we will also reap or harvest sparingly. In our spiritual lives and that of being a witness to our own areas of influence, the principle of sowing and reaping applies. Pastor Rob Brooks, Tehachapi Church of the Nazarene Psalm 23 There's a very old song from back in the day and the chorus says, "I Beg Your Pardon, I Never Promised You A Rose Garden. . ." When I hear this kind of statement, I'm always a little bothered by it. It reeks of unmet expectations at best, or at least communications gone awry. Often, in our walk with God, we may find ourselves wondering, why is this or that happening to me? Why must I endure, X, Y or Z? I mean, I've committed myself to Jesus and now it seems like all is not going according to God's promises. The 23rd Psalm just might help us as we navigate the unmet expectations of what we thought God was saying when we gave our lives to Him and how we should pray as we face the realities of this world. God didn't promise us a rose garden. As a matter of fact, He told us that, "in this world we would have trouble", but Jesus tells us to "take courage, for He has overcome the world". (John 16:33)
