One of the most amazing sights in America is the giant Sequoia tree. It towers up to 325 feet tall, weighs over 6,000 tons, and can live more than 3,000 years. The famous General Sherman tree is 275 feet tall and 100 feet wide at its trunk, with roots stretching 80 feet in diameter. But that massive, nearly indestructible tree started from a seed no bigger than a tomato seed. That's the power of a single seed. And when that tree matures, it produces 400,000 seeds every year, capable of creating entire forests. Jesus understood this power, which is why He told a parable about the most powerful seed of all, God's Word. Every believer is called to be a seed sower, and Psalm 126 gives us both the promise and the pattern of what that looks like. “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them” (Psalm 126:5–6, NIV). Once you understand what it means to “sow with tears,” you'll learn why some seeds produce forests while others never break ground.
Winter is here in the UK, so while Saul and Lucy hunker down, don layers and fire up the kettle more frequently than usual, what do their minds turn to in the garden? This is the perfect season for clearance of 2025 growth, for establishing new designs and for de-cluttering stores and greenhouses. Any hours that you can put into the garden now, will reward you hugely come spring and summer, when the jobs mount up. Quick - more tea and biscuits! With Saul having indoor mouse problems (three of them!) and Lucy admitting her addiction to homogenous gravel, the duo reveal what really presses a professional gardener's buttons during winter. Thankfully, rose pruning season is also in earnest so Lucy is getting her horticultural fix. Saul has been pressing new buttons, too (see his instagram link, below) and discovering that in social media world, January is the new February for seed sowing. Is this wise, or should seed packets remain closed a little longer? Spiritual abuse around money almost made us stop giving altogether. We've seen manipulation from the pulpit. We've witnessed leaders mishandle funds. We've felt the tension between honoring God and distrusting institutions. And yet… we still tithe. In this episode, Bob and Linda have an honest, nuanced conversation about why they chose not to let other people's failures steal something God wanted to use for their freedom. This is not a legalistic defense of tithing. It's a heart-level conversation about obedience, trust, healing, and separating God's command from human hypocrisy. If you've ever thought: "I don't trust where the money goes" "I've seen too much abuse" "Is tithing even for today?" "I want to honor God, but I'm conflicted" This episode is for you. Key Scriptures (NLT) Proverbs 3:9–10 — Honor the Lord with your wealth Deuteronomy 8:18 — God gives the power to create wealth Matthew 6:33 — Seek first the Kingdom Luke 6:38 — Give, and it will be given to you 2 Corinthians 9 — Sowing and reaping with the right heart Matthew 23:23 — Jesus affirms tithing without legalism Action Item for This Week Take 10 quiet minutes and pray this simple prayer: "God, what does generosity look like for me right now?" Write down what comes to mind. Don't rush it. Don't rationalize it. Just ask… and listen. Don't let someone else's disobedience steal your opportunity to trust God.

You know…I sure do enjoy watching a garden grow . About this time of year every year… as the cold winter weather sets in… I start thinking about the spring. And the further along we go into the winter… the more I long for it. And one of the things that really stokes that fire… is when I get those first seed catalogs. I start thinking about tilling up that garden and sowing some seeds. I just absolutely enjoy watching… as God makes those little ol' bitty things… spring up and grow! I just absolutely love to watch a garden grow. And as I thought about that this week… I began to think about something else. Did you know that we as Christians are gardeners? Did you know that we… as Christians… are seed sowers? This morning and next Sunday… I want to spend some time… taking a look at a parable… that we haven't visited in a while. So… if you have God's Word… turn with me to Matthew 13 … and let's begin talking about this subject, "Sowing seed!"
Dr. Andrew Hammond discusses the UAE's notable involvement in multiple conflicts around the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, in partnership with Israel. The two small countries seek to maximize their regional power by controlling key positions along the Red Sea's maritime corridor, while also gaining a foothold in Africa to secure future influence there. Dr. Hammond is a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Australian National University.

Scripture operates on cause and effect, and that reality does not weaken God's sovereignty. It reveals it. In this episode, I explore how God intentionally designed covenant to include choice, consequence, and responsibility. From sowing and reaping to obedience and endurance, the Bible consistently shows that what we choose produces real outcomes, both in this life and in eternity. This is not because God lacks control, but because His sovereignty includes granting humanity real agency within His plan. We will talk about why forgiveness does not remove earthly consequences, why obedience is not legalism, and why faith that remains passive does not reflect the fullness of biblical faith. God is not reacting to human decisions. He authored a world where truth responds to choice. Cause and effect are evidence of God's design. God remains fully sovereign while honoring the freedom He gave us. Covenant was never about control. It was about relationship, trust, and the formation of a people who choose Him in truth and endurance. If you have wrestled with how free will, obedience, and eternal life coexist under a sovereign God, this conversation will bring clarity without compromise. As we enter 2026, we are invited to stop striving for life through effort or information and instead come to Christ for the refreshing that is already ours in salvation. Jesus calls the weary to take His easy yoke, to sow to the Spirit rather than the flesh, and to trust that righteousness, rest, and fruitfulness flow naturally from abiding in Him. When we allow Christ to refresh our souls, we become free to sow spiritual seed and experience the life of the Kingdom to the glory of God.

God works through seed, time, and trust, not shortcuts or instant results. This message reveals how hope, generosity, and faith are planted in seed form, reminding us that God brings growth as we steward what He places in our hands. Through Scripture, we see that hope is not fragile, faith precedes understanding, and God develops strong, lasting lives when we choose to believe, sow, and walk forward with confidence in His promises.CHAPTERS:00:00:00:00 – Welcome and service introduction00:01:41:12 – Believing God for a miraculous life00:02:03:00 – The oak tree and acorn analogy00:03:16:00 – Seed is meant to be sown, not eaten00:04:24:17 – God withholds no good thing00:05:22:18 – Prosperity leads to generosity00:06:27:17 – Seed produces 30, 60, 100-fold00:07:32:04 – Faith first, understanding later00:08:07:00 – Managing seed and guarding the soil00:08:28:16 – The importance of church and community00:10:49:01 – Sowing seed and watching what happens00:12:09:21 – Faithfulness leads to eating the good of the land00:14:03:01 – Christmas season and the need for hope00:16:28:19 – God sends His Word and brings healing00:18:08:06 – Isaiah: a great light in darkness00:19:49:13 – Hope is God's answer to hopelessness00:21:34:11 – Hope arrived as a baby00:22:18:01 – Jesus came as an acorn, not an oak00:23:26:12 – Faith doesn't follow logic00:29:20:01 – Rejoicing in heaven when one repents00:33:09:13 – Romans 15:13 explained00:35:08:08 – Hope is secure, not fragile00:36:56:20 – Looking forward with confidence00:38:40:21 – Why the kids building matters00:39:29:21 – Happy, healthy, and whole00:40:59:20 – Invitation to salvation00:44:34:13 – Salvation prayer00:45:12:19 – Service closing

In this episode of The Valley Today, host Janet Michael welcomes a panel of passionate Extension Master Gardeners—Carole Belkin, Barbara Bosserman, and Joanne Royaltey—to share the excitement surrounding two beloved community events: the Indoor Plant Clinic at Bowman Library and the annual Seed Exchange at the Clarke County Fairgrounds. As winter settles in, these events offer residents a chance to connect, learn, and grow—both literally and figuratively. Hands-On Learning at the Indoor Plant Clinic Kicking off the conversation, Carole describes the much-anticipated Indoor Plant Clinic, scheduled for January 31st at Bowman Library. This one-day event transforms the library's front room into a vibrant hub of horticultural activity. Attendees can browse tables brimming with houseplant cuttings, receive expert advice from Extension Master Gardeners, and even pot their new plants with guidance on selecting the right soil and containers. The clinic isn't just for adults; children are invited to participate in hands-on activities designed to spark their curiosity about plants and gardening. Carole emphasizes the event's welcoming atmosphere, noting that many visitors return year after year, eager to share stories and photos of thriving plants they received at previous clinics. Sowing the Seeds of Community at the Seed Exchange Next, Barbara introduces the annual Seed Exchange, set for February 7th at the newly renovated Clarke County Fairgrounds. This free event invites the public to bring seeds to share—or simply to pick up new varieties for their gardens. With tables dedicated to vegetables, herbs, perennials, and even native plant seeds, the exchange fosters a spirit of generosity and learning. Master Gardeners are on hand to answer questions about planting, soil, and seasonal care, while local organizations like the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and Clarke County 4-H add to the festive, educational atmosphere. Children are encouraged to participate through a fun stamp-collecting activity, ensuring that the next generation of gardeners feels right at home. Expert Advice and Lasting Connections Throughout the conversation, the guests highlight the invaluable role Extension Master Gardeners play in the community. Joanne, also an Associate Extension Agent, explains how these volunteers provide research-based information, answer questions year-round, and help residents navigate the challenges of gardening in the Valley's unique climate. The conversation also touches on the importance of avoiding invasive plant species, the joy of sharing gardening successes, and the sense of camaraderie that blossoms at events like the plant clinic and seed exchange. Looking Ahead: Growing Together As the discussion draws to a close, the panelists reflect on the power of gardening to bring people together. Whether it's repotting a 20-year-old snake plant, teaching children how to propagate cuttings, or simply exchanging seeds and stories, these events nurture both plants and relationships. The Extension Master Gardeners invite everyone—novices and seasoned green thumbs alike—to join them in cultivating a more connected, resilient, and verdant community. In this must-listen episode, Josh Hammer pulls no punches as he exposes the bad actors corrupting the conservative movement — including Nick Fuentes, Tucker Carlson, and the grifters cheering them on. Josh breaks down Tucker’s latest bizarre comments about buying a house in Doha, Qatar, and torches the delusion behind pretending Qatar is some kind of model society. Josh also details Qatar’s deep ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and highlights what Florida is doing to push back against creeping sharia influence in the U.S. Then he turns to the Left, calling out Rep. Jasmine Crockett for her latest unhinged proposal on reparations — another desperate attempt to score headlines at the expense of common sense.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Winter sowing is a seed-starting method that sounds a little bit wild the first time you hear it but makes sense if you think about it from a horticultural standpoint. Basically you are sowing seeds in recycled containers like milk jugs and placing them outside in the winter as a very hands-off way of starting your spring garden. If you've ever:• Run out of space under grow lights• Been frustrated by leggy indoor seedlings• Or just felt like you don't have the time or money or inclination for a full seed-starting setup…winter sowing might be your new favorite technique.Let's dig in!References and Resources:University of Missouri Extension.
