“Sometimes you have to leave home to see home.” In this episode of Workday Playdate, Erin takes listeners on a journey through Shanghai, Singapore, and Bali to unpack what a month abroad taught her about thinking on her feet and appreciating the life waiting back home. What starts as an international travel adventure quickly becomes a masterclass in working parenthood, and the improv mindset required when every plan goes sideways. If you've ever had to pivot quickly, parent imperfectly, navigate uncertainty, or figure it out as you go, this episode is a reminder that flexibility is a skill you can practice. Inside This Episode: The Plan Is Just a Suggestion: Delayed flights, closed restaurants, language barriers, and disappearing Wi-Fi become an unexpected lesson in adaptability. Erin shares why asking, "New scene, what's the move?" is often more useful than clinging to the original plan. How Discomfort Expands Your Capability: Whether it's navigating unfamiliar cities, managing food restrictions abroad, or solving problems without your usual routines, Erin explores why confidence often shows up after comfort leaves the room. The Truth About Good Enough Parenting: Forget perfect parenting. Erin reflects on what it means to be present, resourceful, and human while parenting on the road—and why that's more than enough. Why Your Village Matters More Than Ever: From family support to travel companions to the people who step in when life gets complicated, this episode is a celebration of the teams, communities, and ensembles that make hard things possible. Sometimes You Have to Leave Home to See Home: Distance has a funny way of creating clarity. Erin shares how stepping away from everyday life gave her a deeper appreciation for her routines, her community, and the life she built. What to Do Now: Treat the Plan Like a Draft: The next time something changes unexpectedly, ask yourself: "What's possible now?" instead of "How do I get back to the original plan?" Collect Evidence of Your Capability: Keep track of moments when you handled something difficult, unfamiliar, or inconvenient. Your resilience deserves receipts. Strengthen Your Village: Reach out to someone who has supported you recently and let them know the difference they made. Gratitude is one of the fastest ways to strengthen community. Your Freebie You're calm, capable, and composed… until things take an unexpected turn (as they tend to do)! This is exactly why we created The Clarity Under Pressure Toolkit: What to Do in the First 5 Minutes of Any Uncertain Situation. It's your go-to guide for staying grounded when it matters most. In this fun and wide-ranging episode of Reading With Your Kids, Jed welcomes two sets of guests who are all about helping kids see the world—and themselves—differently. First, Jed chats with Candice Wierzbowski and Eric Hurlock, two of the creative voices behind The Super Smart Farm Show, a kids' podcast from Lancaster Farming newspaper. They talk about helping children understand where food really comes from and why farming matters to everyone, even city kids. Eric explains how the show answers playful questions like, "Does chocolate milk come from brown cows?" while sneaking in real science, nature, and STEAM learning. Candice shares how they use silly, talking animal characters, quizzes, and kid-submitted questions to keep young listeners actively engaged. Along the way, they explore topics like cow "myths," farm smells, cow farts' reputation in climate conversations, and the real challenges facing family farmers today. In the second half, Jed welcomes Kiyoko Hairston, author of the self-published picture book Freeda's Fabnificent Feet. Kiyoko introduces Freeda, a girl with very large feet who's teased at her new school—until those same feet help her save an elderly woman in a runaway wheelchair. Freeda then teams up with other kids whose "big" features become their superpowers. Drawing from her own childhood experience of being teased, Kyoko talks about shame, confidence, and her mission to help kids see that what makes them different is exactly what makes them powerful—and that, truly, no one can fill your shoes.

Janet Kellogg Ray returns to Spiritual Misfits to talk about her new book, Fish with Feet: Human Evolution and the Image of God. We dig into why human evolution remains uniquely offensive even to people who accept evolution everywhere else, debunk the "if we came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?" myth, and explore what it means to be evolved creatures, made in the Image of God.Janet argues the real motivation behind most anti-evolution theology isn't evidence, it's a need to protect a prior doctrine (original sin, biblical inerrancy), and that starting with the evidence instead doesn't have to mean losing your faith, it might mean finding a more honest one.Order the new book here: https://www.eerdmans.com/9780802885616/fish-with-feet/Want to reach out and let us know your thoughts or suggestions for the show? In this episode, we dive into part two of our three-part miniseries on the foot, shifting our movement detective magnifying glass from the inner edge to its balancing partner: the outer edge of the foot and lower leg. I break down the anatomy and biomechanics of the peroneals (also known as the fibularis muscles) and explain their crucial role as the lateral reins that keep our movement system steady, manage side-to-side control, and stabilize the ankle. I also explore why the peroneals matter so much in chronic ankle sprains, looking beyond structural ligament damage to how these injuries disrupt the brain's proprioceptive map and delay muscle timing. We'll connect the dots between the outside of the shin and the lateral hip, explaining why pelvic stability is key to relieving reactive work at the ankle. Rather than just rolling out tight tissue, I invite you to retrain these muscles so they can actively coordinate with the tibialis anterior, restoring the foot's elegant underfoot stabilizing stirrup for truly resilient, adaptable movement.

One of the most vulnerable things we can do is place our trust in someone or commit ourselves to something. Whenever we are faced with commitment, questions and fears often begin to swirl in our minds. What if they let me down? What if it isn't enough? What if things don't turn out the way I hoped? Commitment can feel risky because it requires us to release control and entrust ourselves to someone or something beyond ourselves. Every one of us wrestles with commitment in some way. Rather than fully committing, we often try to keep one foot in and one foot out. We convince ourselves that this gives us a sense of security—that if things go wrong, we can simply say, "I knew it wouldn't work." Yet this kind of divided allegiance only keeps us from experiencing the fullness of what God desires for us. Jesus calls us to wholehearted trust, and the longer we try to live in the middle ground, the more our hearts drift away from Him. As we continue our journey through Psalm 119, we will see the psalmist repeatedly place his confidence in God's Word. It is through trusting the Lord and delighting in His Word that he experiences its wisdom, joy, and life-giving power. Together, we will explore what it means to fully trust God's Word, consider the cost of wholehearted commitment, and discover the greater joy and freedom found on the other side of surrender. Join us this Sunday at 8:00 or 11:00 AM as we discover why releasing control and entrusting ourselves to the Lord is not only one of the hardest steps of faith we can take, but also one of the most rewarding. We would love to worship with you as we learn together what it means to wholeheartedly trust the God who is always faithful. - Pastor Brandon For this week's Scripture and notes: http://bible.com/events/49627411

Today, in Part 5 of the "How to Think About the Future" series, Nate scales his exploration of civilizational futures down to the future of a single human life and analyzes how the same patterns that shape economies, power, geopolitics, and Earth systems turn inward. Building on the framework developed throughout the series, he describes how the factors from material throughput to personal agency are underpinned by our own physical/mental health and our web of relationships. Nate emphasizes that we cannot build any stable future on top of cracking foundations, pointing toward the importance of cultivating a strong base of personal health and community to operate from. By outlining these scenarios – both on the personal and civilizational scales – Nate challenges the long-held assumptions that equate growth with success. He explores why the most regenerative paths available to us often look like decline from the outside and discusses the ways in which our civilizational foundations have been obscured by a societal trajectory of constant growth. Overall, this episode offers a mirror for reflecting on the landscapes we inhabit today and the quiet work required to navigate toward a better future for humanity and the biosphere. Are your daily choices strengthening your foundations, or are they slowly eroding the capacity you'll need for what's ahead? Which personal future scenario do you feel you're living in today, and what patterns are quietly shaping where you're headed? And how would your life change if you measured success by regeneration instead of productivity or growth? A lesson I've been reminded of recently while working on my first fix and flip property is this. Urgency matters in business. As women business owners, we spend a lot of time making sure our products, services, and offers are excellent. But sometimes we forget that the customer experience begins long before someone makes a purchase. The way you respond to emails, answer questions, follow up with leads, and communicate with potential customers says just as much about your business as the product or service you provide. In today's episode, we're talking about why urgency can become one of your greatest competitive advantages. Whether you own a service-based business or sell physical products, people want to feel seen, valued, and taken care of. Often, the difference between closing a sale and losing one has less to do with your offer and more to do with how quickly and intentionally you show up for the people you're serving. Professor William Taubman, guest author, recounts how the assassination of JFK forged a deep, "opaque" bond between McNamara and Jackie Kennedy, as he spent the night following the murder sitting at her feet while she recounted the tragedy. Despite his grief, he immediately transitioned to serving Lyndon Johnson, who relied on McNamara's "tone for action" to justify the escalation of the Vietnam War. McNamara became the fiercest public advocate for the war, often suppressing his own growing doubts to please a commander who, unlike Kennedy, did not tolerate dissent.
