In this episode, Aman shares her journey into becoming a software developer. She'll share how she decided on this career in high school, her experience at university, and some advice on how to enter this field for those interested. Growing up and studying in Hong Kong's education system as South Asians came with its challenges and struggles, as until 2013 the education system in the city was racially segregated. And we all tried to gain a sufficient education and access to more opportunities in a system not designed for us. But things are positively looking up and it's a joy to see many South Asians trailblazing in the city in many different career paths. Are financial skills - saving, budgeting, investing - something parents are supposed to teach us? Or something we all have to learn on our own as we stumble into the world of adulthood? In this episode, I have one of my best friends Emi joining me. She spends too much money on McDonald's but still somehow had her financial boat floating because she invests in company stocks (but she also doesn't know how to read stock exchange charts...) Join us, two people in our 20s having no idea what we are doing exactly but still trying, as we share our financial woes, budgeting techniques, how we save, and how we have a love-hate relationship with money. "Your relationship with money is just you learning about yourself and what is best for you." - Emi Gurung I love that. Learning how to handle our money is another way to learn about ourselves. Domestic violence is rife in the Pakistani community. I've witnessed it and heard about it. I have family members and friends who have been affected by it. I refuse to let it fester in our community any longer. It is time to have an open conversation about it. Join me as I tackle this topic from a Pakistani and Muslim point of view, facing misogynistic marriage practices and that infamous sura 4, verse 34 from the Quran head-on. This episode is on Anti-Black Racism and Colourism in the Pakistani community and how we can speak up about it. We discuss how colourism in the Pakistani community largely drives racism against black people from Pakistanis. I'm joined by my favourite and at this point regular guest Komal Ashfaq and our first-time guest Inka Rosi to speak on this. Both Inka and Komal have had different experiences with colourism because of their different skin complexion which further informs how we look at people with dark skin colour in societies all over the world. This episode is very important for my guest and myself personally and politically. My guest for this episode is Marium Fatimah Malik, a friend of mine since primary school. This episode, we are talking about the ongoing protests in Hong Kong for greater democratic freedom, which Marium has been a part of since the beginning. On 1st October 2019, she was subjected to Hong Kong Police’s excessive force and aggressively arrested. She was in prison for 36 hours and still has an investigation open against her. I hope you enjoy this very important episode and gain a greater insight on the protests in Hong Kong. Thank you very much for listening! 03. Racism in Hong Kong with Komal and Zulakha

This episode I'm joined by my wonderful friends Komal and Zulakha, to share our experiences of racism we face in Hong Kong on almost a daily basis, whether outwardly or indirectly.   This is one of the most important episodes of the podcast for me so far. I have had many formative experiences dealing with racism almost all my life in Hong Kong, some positive, many negative.  It is a personal and vulnerable episode.   My friends Komal and Zulakha very generously offered their voices, experiences, and thoughts on this topic for this episode. We shared a lot with each other in this episode about what we face, how we feel and what we've been through. I think we might have forgotten that we were live and recording a podcast and this all turned into just 3 friends sharing their hearts and minds. It takes an open heart and a mature outlook to be this vulnerable on air about some of the most personal experiences. I cannot thank Komal and Zulakha more for this.  I hope you take something of value from this episode. And if there are your own experiences and thoughts with/on racism that you would like to share, please feel free to share them in the comments or send a message through on the podcast's social media DMs.  Thank you very much for listening! In this first episode of the Woman, Asian & Bloody Immigrant, I have invited my good friend Komal to talk about YouTube and the current YouTuber drama chaos it finds itself in every other week. We talk about YouTube's golden days when OG YouTubers created the best content there was, how YouTubers like James Charles and Logan Paul, and the advertising business has corrupted the simple idea of uploading your video creations on a free platform, and how young kids and teenagers are consuming the most outrageous content that even we adults sometimes can't quite comprehend.
