What do casting directors really look for in self-tapes, and how can actors actually book more of the new “vertical” films taking over the industry? In this Get Scene Unscripted episode, Jesse sits down with casting director Cheryl Louden-Kubin to talk about the explosion of vertical micro-dramas, auditioning for fast-paced productions, and how staying grounded personally is just as important as growing professionally. They cover:
In this inspiring and deeply practical episode of Mindset Matters, Patrick and Steffany explore the mental game behind elite performance — on and off the ice. As Steffany prepares to travel to France for the Grand Prix figure skating season, she shares how she helps world-class athletes like Olympic gold medalist Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry prepare for high-stakes competition. But the tools she uses with athletes, she explains, apply equally to entrepreneurs, business leaders, and anyone striving to perform at their best. Steffany introduces what she calls the “Four Barriers to the Podium” — a simple but powerful framework to clear mental and emotional clutter before any high-performance moment: Incompletions: Identifying unfinished tasks or unresolved issues that create mental noise and distraction. Dramas and Distractions: Recognizing how gossip, social media, and external stressors pull focus away from purpose. Belief Systems (or BS): Challenging limiting beliefs, hidden fears, and unhelpful stories that shape performance outcomes. Worst Case, Best Case: Using visualization to release fear, neutralize anxiety, and align with the best possible outcome. Patrick draws parallels between the preparation of Olympic athletes and the mindset needed for success in business, relationships, and life. Their conversation highlights how the principles of MindShui — clarity, awareness, and balance — help anyone create space for excellence. Listeners will take away a grounded reminder that performance begins with presence and that every “podium” in life, whether it's in sport, business, or personal growth, is achieved by clearing the mind, aligning belief with intention, and focusing on what truly matters.

This is an episode near and dear to Jason's heart, as Eric and he connect again to discuss three movies by Jason's favorite director, Robert Altman. Eric loves Altman's work too, and the guys love to tackle the complicated movies from the great directors, so this week the guys are talking Altman's great mysterious trio of complex female centered dramas: 3 Women, Images and That Cold Day in the Park. No matter how much thought you've given these films, we think you'll come to some new revelations about them (at least Jason and Eric did during the show), plus have a good time while digging deeper.
The Silver Ferns are trying to put off court dramas to one side as they prepare for what will be their toughest test series this year. Over the weekend Netball New Zealand announced that coach Dame Noeline Taurua was being suspended for the rest of 2025, less than two weeks before a series against Australia. Sports Reporter Bridget Tunnicliffe spoke to Lisa Owen.

Send us a textSEASON5, EPISODE 1!!! Wow. Hard to believe. This is an episode recorded months ago saved for this very occasion. Kudos to Cameron Scott for connecting me to John. This is a very special episode taking writing to a new level that every playwright can benefit from. John takes writing to levels I don't think we've ever tackled in past episodes, but you will have to listen to Campfire Radio Theater to fully grasp his approach. If you're not familiar with Campfire Radio Theater and are a horror fan, subscribe now. You won't be disappointed. In this conversation, we delve into the background and generation of Campfire Radio Theater and the benefit of technology, the internet, and how it's helped a dying medium and its resurgence. We discuss self-producing and current outlets, the difference between cinema and radio dramas, and the process of the latter. John also shares how to break down story and beats as well as keeping track of information in addition to formulas and what makes a slow burner. There's so much more to unpack for an episode I've been saving for a season beginner. It's playwriting in a whole other dimension. I promise you'll learn more than you expect. My number one point of advice - subscribe to Campfire Radio Theater, and as always, Enjoy!John Ballentine is a radio dramatist, producer, and screenwriter. Happy Self-Healing! Secret billionaire husbands, blood-thirsty vampire lovers and being reborn as your great-grandmother: these are some of the outrageous plotlines that can be found in Chinese micro-dramas like My Royal Secret Lover, by producer Lin Yicheng. Micro-dramas are a Chinese short form video trend that has expanded globally, racking up hundreds of millions of downloads in the US, Asia, Latin America and Africa. It's big business: in China last year, the micro-drama industry grossed the equivalent of seven billion US dollars, which exceeds the entire Chinese box office for 2024. A number of these series are now also being filmed overseas for English-speaking and global audiences, most of which are adapted from Chinese scripts. Mengchen Zhang from the BBC's Global China Unit explains what's behind the success of this format. Also on the show: two BBC Language Services coming together to tackle disinformation. The relationship between neighbours India and Pakistan is well known around the world for going through periods of extreme hostility and even aggression. A deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir in April led to the two countries exchanging missile and drone attacks in one of the biggest escalations for about 50 years. And in times of tension, disinformation is rife. Sana Gulzar of BBC Urdu and Jugal Purohit who reports for BBC Hindi join Faranak Amidi to talk about it.This episode of The Documentary comes to you from The Fifth Floor, the show at the heart of global storytelling, with BBC journalists from all around the world. This is an EcoAudio certified production. Clips are from Spoiled by My Vampire Uncle and My Royal Secret Lover. (Photo: Faranak Amidi. Credit: Tricia Yourkevich.)
