Many of Hong Kong's leading pro-democracy activists have been arrested, intimidated, or forced into exile in recent years as mainland China tightens its control. The latest security law to be passed, known as Article 23, has been called the “last nail in the coffin” for Hong Kong's civil society.  But those who still hold hope for change in the region are searching for new ways to keep the protest movement alive.  In this episode:  Patrick Fok (@PaddyFok) Journalist Samuel Chu (@SamuelMChu) Exiled Activist Anna Kwok (@AnnaKwokFY) Exiled Activist Episode credits: This episode was produced by Miranda Lin with our host Malika Bilal. On June 30, Hong Kong will be subject to a new National Security Law. No one, not even Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, knows what will be in the bill, but details are slowly coming into focus. For critics, the legislation will create a ‘dual state’ that will undermine Hong Kong’s legal system and allow Beijing to target its opponents at will. For proponents, the bill will only affect a handful of people, and bring stability after a year of unrest. To ask whether the law spells the end of Hong Kong’s autonomy, Louisa and Graeme are joined by NYU legal expert Alvin Cheung, Lingnan University’s Ho Lok-sang and digital activist Glacier Kwong. Call of Duty has returned to the name Modern Warfare with a 2019 take on modern combat. With it comes a new story campaign, new game modes and co-op making for a vast departure from last year's Black Ops 4. This one is more grounded, has a solid story and feels like a return to the feeling that captured us from Modern Warfare 1 and 2. In the news this week, J. Allen Brack apologizes for Blizzard's actions last month, EA announces they're bringing their games to Steam starting with Star Wars and Playstation Vue is shutting down next January. Our discussion this week revolves around Blizzcon itself. We discuss the overall feeling of the conference and their overall better showcase this year than last year's disaster with Diablo Immortal. They unveiled Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, a new WOW expansion called Shadowlands and Hearthstone Battlegrounds. Hong Kong Protests Poised for Boost from House (Podcast) The House plans to show its support for ongoing protests in Hong Kong by considering two bipartisan bills. The measures would block sales of crowd control equipment, impose sanctions, and require an annual certification that Hong Kong is sufficiently independent from Beijing to justify the city's special treatment under U.S. trade law. On this episode of Bloomberg Government's “Suspending the Rules” podcast, Bloomberg News congressional reporter Daniel Flatley and BGOV legislative analyst Naoreen Chowdhury discuss the protests and congressional action, as well as China's response to the House bills. It's quite the human task to be congruent and aligned with ourselves — to feel that who we are on the inside is expressed and reflected on the outside. Then there is all of what is within. Do you sacrifice, sell off, hide, or ignore parts of yourself? What does congruence feel like to you in your body? In this episode, how the Hong Kong Protests challenged me personally to stand up for all the parts of me, not just some, but to have compassion meanwhile. Also, the price we pay when we have codependency or where we are split in our choices, how to feel aligned in your body and congruent outwardly, living from the heart and looking deeper at social issues.     Links, Article, and Resources All Show Notes for This Episode
