I am your host Tut Kailech aka K1NGT or K1, and I'm by myself today on the trail.I wanted to talk to yall about something hella important. I thought it was something you can benefit to hear from. It is something we touch on in most episodes but I wanted to dive in just a little bit. Please forgive me I am getting over a sickness so I will be coughing. Before we start if you haven't left a review on our channel? Please do it. It'll help get to those who need to hear the stories, free game, personal stories, and tips from people who want to help those on the trail. Today we are gonna talk about hustle culture and mental health man. We're gonna talk about how it CAN be detrimental to your system. This culture has benefited a lot of us but we need to talk about the elephant in the room. This toxic cycle is called hustle culture: the societal standard that you must exert yourself at 110% capacity to succeed. Hustle culture is the collective drive to work harder, faster, and stronger. Every. Single. Day.Off-top you can think about how many times you've heard these statements. These statements are great don't get me wrong but like most things, people don't do things in moderation anymore. If you've heard this statement drop a comment with a fire emoji in the cat: You don't stop when you're tired; you stop when you're done. It has become a motto of mine but long term it hurt me. Aidan Harper said, “It creates the assumption that the only value we have as human beings is our productivity capability — our ability to work, rather than our humanity.”FOLLOW US: Blazin A Trail Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blazinatrailpodcast/ K1NGTUT Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/k1ngtut11/ Jack Buchanan (Tech/Multimedia): https://www.instagram.com/buchanan_jack/ Nelson King (Camera/Multimedia): https://www.instagram.com/nelsonkingphotography/ YATO Clothing: www.yato.life/links YATO Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yatobrand/ blazinatrail, podcasting, blazinatrailpodcast, tut kailech, k1ngt, k1ngtut, south sudanese, trauma, toxic self help, hustle culture is toxic, hustle culture ted talk, hustle culture capitalism, hustle culture workaholism and toxic productivity, hustle culture wisecrack, hustle culture is not healthy, hustle culture, hustle culture is not for me,hustle culture is an absolute nightmare, toxic self improvement, toxic self help, toxic productivity, side hustle, self help, how to find balance, rise and grind, campbell walker
Setting up a desk area in the kitchen, Zoom call-induced headaches, or getting furloughed and paid to not do any work - this year has shaken up the world of work like never before. The pandemic has made us reimagine how work fits into our economy and our lives. So, with 79% of business leaders and nearly two-thirds of the public open to bringing in a shorter working week in light of the pandemic, should we be thinking more about working less? Could a shorter working week help us recover from coronavirus? Ayeisha Thomas-Smith is joined by Alfie Stirling, NEF Director of Research and Chief Economist, and Anna Coote, Principal Fellow at NEF to discuss their new book with Aidan Harper, The Case for a Four-Day Week. The book will be out on the 27th November, go to the Polity website to grab a copy https://politybooks.com/bookdetail/?isbn=9781509539642 ----- Researched by Margaret Welsh. Produced by Becky Malone. It’s one of the most important inventions of the 20th century. But unlike the phone, the car, computers and indoor plumbing, the weekend is still stuck in the 1930s. As productivity increased, the promise of shorter working hours always seemed just out of reach. But now, there’s a campaign to make the 4-day week a reality within our lifetimes. Obviously many people would love to work less. But what would it mean for the economy? And what would it take to make it a reality? Back for a brand new series, Ayeisha is joined by Alfie Stirling, Head of Economics and Aidan Harper, Researcher at the New Economics Foundation. Enjoying the show? The prospect of a shorter working week is the subject of this episode, with Aidan Harper from the 4 day week campaign and the New Economics Foundation joining me to make the case for reducing working hours without a reduction a pay. We discuss crises of productivity, mental health, automation and climate, and how the 4 day week could help address these problems. Utopian Horizons is a podcast about utopia. Each episode covers a different utopia, dystopia, utopian thinker, or utopian movement, asking what they can tell us about ourselves, our society, and our future. Music: The Fiction of Utopian Studies/The Road To Oceania by The Fucked Up Beat.
Work can be massively tedious. But would doing less of it - e.g. working 4 days rather than 5 - really be better for the planet? How would we pay the bills? And what would we do with all that extra time? We chat to Aidan Harper of the 4 Day Week campaign to find out. Sustainababble is your friendly environment podcast, out weekly. Alice Martin, Carys Roberts, Aidan Harper, Will Stronge, Katja Kipping, David Graeber Session organised by: 4 Day Week Campaign, Autonomy, Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Berlin The demand for a reduction of work is as old as the Labour movement itself. Generations of trade unionists and socialists knew that time spent at work is political - their struggles won us the weekend. But now the nine-to-five, five-days-a-week model for full-time work is outdated and failing. With the Labour Party recently campaigning on their boldest election manifesto in a generation, a radical agenda for a new economy has never been closer to Westminster. It is time to grab this opportunity and move towards a 4 Day Week.
Aidan Harper joins Kirsty Major to read and discuss his piece: Robots are going to make England’s north-south divide even worse - that's why we need the four day work week See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
