In this episode of Style DNA I go on a style journey with the British jewellery designer, the founder of both Links of London and Annoushka, the Creative Director and Entrepreneur, Annoushka Ducas MBE. I couldn't resist asking Annoushka her views on the difference between lab grown versus mined diamonds and how the jewellery industry is notoriously opaque…she talks about her passion for re-using existing stones from vintage jewellery and how all of her newly sourced diamonds are certified by the Kimberley Process (established in 2003 to prevent conflict diamonds entering the mainstream market) …but perhaps more importantly, the joy she still feels discovering new varieties of semi-precious stones …and how the experience of travelling to a pearl farm in the Philippines and learning about the whole process of cultivation of golden pearls and the attention to detail and sheer hard labour that goes into pearl cultivation shone a whole new light on their beauty… We laugh about the “trauma” of her mother's appearance at the school gates …this seems to be a recurring theme with my guests! However, in time, some of her most precious pieces in her wardrobe are pieces that once belonged to her mother… She talks about her first job, being a PA to her godfather Mark Birley (the supremely stylish founder of Annabels, Harry's Bar and Mark's Club) and how he took her to the then newly opened Manolo Blahnik on Old Church Street and treated her to 3 pairs of shoes to elevate her appearance…and we agree that by wearing just one really special piece (whatever that may be, jewellery, shoes or a jacket) can be transformative, and can totally up your game sartorially. I ask her about the competition from the mega jewellery brands … she says that when she created Annoushka jewellery she purposefully positioned it between Links of London (silver) and the high jewellery brands like Cartier … she knew she wanted to appeal to women to buy for themselves and she wanted her jewellery to have a very personal appeal with her clients… and there is nothing more personal than her My Life in Seven Charms collection…inspired by her love of Desert Island Discs…she refers to it as an 18ct gold autobiography of someone's life…just gorgeous.
Annoushka's mother had a business selling fish to all the top restaurants in London and it was this business that accidentally set Annoushka onto the path to become one of the most successful jewellers in the UK. House Guest by Country & Town House | Interior Designer Interviews
Welcome to episode 144 of the House Guest podcast, where Country & Town House Magazine's Interiors Editor Carole Annett chats with experts from the world of interior design and decoration. This week's guest: Annoushka Ducas of Annoushka
Jeweller Annoushka Ducas MBE has been collecting charms for as long as she can remember. Here she explores their unique ability to evoke memory and meaning with seven inspiring women, as they reveal their Life In Seven Charms.
A Different Tweed: Fashion Conversations with Bronwyn Cosgrave
As Annoushka Ducas reflects on operating her namesake, London-based fine jewelrybrand over the last 10 years, she considers how throughout her entire career she has always derived inspiration from women starting with her dynamic mother to her clients as well as the famous females who wear her jewels including Patricia Arquette, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Rihanna and Queen Rania of Jordan. Explaining why her brand has always served as a platform to showcase work by guest designers - from Houston, Texas’s Sutra to Beirut’s Selim Mouzannar - Annoushka tells the story of teaming up with Susie Cave, designer of The Vampire’s Wife fashion label, to create an 18-carat gold collection arising from Susie’s favorite songs by her husband, Nick Cave. Annoushka reveals all - describing how she built her brand, after founding Links of London, and sustained a harmonious working partnership with her husband, John Ayton. She also offers up tips including how to mix metals and maximize an investment on fine jewelry by making it integral to an everyday look.
It was in 2012 that Annoushka Ducas was decorated as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Recognised for her three decades of service to the jewellery industry, hers is a name that’s synonymous with luxury. “Jewellery is so much about moments in time. Those are the luxuries: the moments that it commemorates, or what they mean to you.” Annoushka Ducas MBE wasn’t always destined for the world of luxury jewellery. The keen businesswoman, and now mother of four – who co-founded Links of London in 1990 alongside her husband, John Ayton – studied at the Sorbonne before alighting in the industry almost by chance. Despite her lack of formal training, Ducas’ innate sense of style and inimitable aesthetic has redefined the jewellery industry as we know it today.
By her own admission "an accidental jeweller", Annoushka Ducas has built an empire that revolutionised the jewellery industry. Links of London was the first brand to bring personalised, well crafted and highly gift-able jewellery under one beautiful brand to the high street. Annoushka and her husband John launched Links of London in 1990 and built the brand over 15 years until they made the difficult decision to sell. Within 18 months Annoushka launched her second brand, Annoushka Jewellery. In this episode, Annoushka discusses how her business got her through grief, the emotions after selling Links of London, and where her entrepreneurial spirit comes from. She shares her views on following trends and the future of the high street today. A mother of 4 daughters, Annoushka has built both businesses on a philosophy of absolutely loving what she creates and designs jewellery for women to buy for themselves. It’s this attitude to female empowerment that also drives Annoushka through her other missions, including mentoring school programmes for girls, working with Give A Future and her role as a patron with the Prince's Trust 'Women Supporting Women' initiative. It’s not often a business mind comes along and creates a brand with such style, customer loyalty and originally, but to do it twice, is nothing short of a success story. Annoushka Ducas has done just that. Launching Links of London with her husband John in 1990 – which became one of the most popular jewellery brands of the nineties and noughties - she sold the company and went on to launch her eponymous label Annoushka.Surprisingly Annoushka fell into jewellery design when helping her mother source gifts for 60 chefs. Inspired to turn pictures of fish into cufflinks. Twenty-five years later and her designs are now worn by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and the Duchess of Cambridge,From selling a multi-million pound company to a new business in a digital age and being awarded an MBE, here’s Annoushka Ducas’ Success Story.Visit Annoushka | https://www.annoushka.com/uk/Become a SheerLuxe VIP & redeem £100 OFF Annouska jewellery, visit https://sheerluxevip.com/annoushka/ to find out moreFollow SheerLuxe on Instagram: http://instagram.com/sheerluxeSign Up To sheerluxe.com: www.sheerluxe.com/signup See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
