Today, I speak with Dina Berrin, a certified intuitive life coach, about her spiritual journey and the various tools she uses, including tarot, numerology, and charms. Dina shares her early experiences with spirituality, the significance of her grandmother's influence, and how she transitioned from a career in fitness to embracing her passion for divination. The discussion delves into the importance of intuition, the role of charms in personal growth, and the power of music and memories in connecting with one's inner self. Dina also highlights the value of consistency in developing intuition and the significance of journaling as a tool for self-discovery. Dina Berrin is a tarot reader, teacher, speaker, and Certified Co-Active Life Coach with over 20 years of experience. Her journey into the world of divination began at a young age, sparked by her grandmother introducing Dina to astrology. This early awareness prompted a lifelong passion for exploring metaphysical disciplines, including tarot, numerology, charm reading, crystals, palmistry, and more. At the heart of Dina's work is her passion as a storyteller. She believes that tarot is the storybook of our lives, the mirror to our soul, and the key to our inner wisdom. Every decision, choice, lesson, and challenge we encounter can be found within the 78 cards of the tarot deck. The cards act as a mirror, allowing us to tap into the wisdom and answers within ourselves and the universe. Dina also believes that when incorporated with other disciplines such as astrology and numerology, tarot becomes part of a Venn diagram, offering a multi-faceted view of our lives and decisions. As a coach, reader, intuitive, and storyteller, Dina uses her innate intuition to help pull back the curtain and connect clients to their "why," reminding them of who they are and offering guidance to finding the answers and solutions they seek. Her approach blends intuition, imagination, and intent, guiding clients to their authentic selves. She understands the challenges of finding one's true path and provides a safe, empowering space for clients to expand, grow, - and become their future selves. Dina is a fierce champion for her clients, guiding them as they navigate life's complexities with clarity, confidence, and courage. She believes the best decisions are made from a place of love, not fear. Living authentically means making choices that reflect our deepest values and truest selves. Through her work, Dina helps clients peel back the layers to uncover what truly matters to them and supports them as they map out a path to their desired future. When she's not working one-on-one with clients, Dina loves to bring her talents to events. Guests are always eager to sit and talk with her, drawn to her welcoming and engaging presence. Whether working privately or at events, Dina prides herself on being approachable, nonjudgmental, and committed to exceptional service. Living in NYC with her husband, three kids, and their adorable puppy, Rocky, Dina balances her professional life with her passions. She is a perpetual student, always eager to explore deeper insights and new perspectives. Her endless curiosity and love for people allow her to shine a unique light on others and lift them up. Episode 446: I will discuss my memories of Charms Lollipops and read off a menu from The House of Eng Restaurant in Chicago.
In 1543, Nicolaus Copernicus declared the earth revolved around the Sun, overturning centuries of scholastic presumption. A new age was coming into view – one guided by observation, technology and logic. But omens and elixirs did not disappear from the sixteenth-century laboratory. Charms and potions could still be found nestled between glistening brass instruments and leather-bound tomes. The line between the natural and supernatural remained porous, yet to be defined. From the icy Danish observatory of Tycho Brahe, to the smoky, sulphur-stained workshop of John Dee, in Inside the Stargazer's Palace: The Transformation of Science in 16th-Century Northern Europe (OneWorld, 2024) Dr. Violet Moller tours the intellectual heart of early European science. Exploring its rich, multidisciplinary culture, Inside the Stargazer's Palace reveals a dazzling forgotten world, where all knowledge, no matter how arcane, could be pursued in good faith. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. In this episode, I'm wrapping up my Goddess series by diving into the world of the Modern Goddess—what she meant to our Neolithic ancestors and how she still lives in us today. Inspired by my journey through Old Europe and the work of archeomythologist Marija Gimbutas, I explore goddess-worshiping cultures and the rich symbolism they left behind—like the snake, the egg, and sacred water—as guides for understanding cycles of life, death, fertility, rest, and regeneration. But this isn't just a look at ancient history. I share practical, grounded ways to embody the goddess in your daily life today—through community care, seasonal and cyclical living, everyday rituals, and even the herbal allies I keep close (sometimes literally in my pockets!). If you're longing to reconnect with the Earth, slow down, and live in a more regenerative rhythm, this episode is an invitation to awaken the goddess within and bring her spirit into the heart of your modern life.

For this cycle's "Mise-Unseen" entry, Julian, Emilio and Madeline fire up 'Hester Street', Joan Micklin Silver's overlooked and under-appreciated film from 1975 depicting the struggles one Jewish family, recently immigrants to the United States, face while assimilating to life in their new homeland at the turn of the century. The trio comment on the film's unique depiction of New York City (particularly in relation to when it was first released), the unusual complexity that most characters are given, how centering Gitl's journey gives the film a strong emotional core, the film's unexpected humor, its portrayal of the working class Jewish immigrant experience class, and why this movie and its story feel so unique. They then have a great chat with Sharyn Rothstein, an accomplished writer who recently adapted 'Hester Street' for the stage, and discuss what was meaningful to her about this story, what details from the film spoke to her, and what the stage production does to modernize and reshape the story for today's audiences. It's a deep dive into an unsung 1970s NYC film you won't want to miss! Sharyn Rothstein is an award winning playwright, teacher, and writer for television. Her play "Bad Books" is currently running at Roundhouse Theater in Bethesda, Maryland through April 27th. Following on from 2024's theme of the Folklore of Animals, this month we'll examine the Folklore of Agricultural Animals. This week, we'll explore the folklore, legends, and even folk medicine associated with sheep. Sheep are not native to the UK. Neolithic settlers brought them to Britain from southwest Asia in around 3000 BCE. Sheepskin and other wool textiles appear in the archaeological record from the Bronze Age in northern Europe. Following the Norman Conquest, sheep became the dominant form of livestock. They primarily provided milk, with meat, wool, and manure secondary products. By the medieval era, the focus switched to wool. Unsurprisingly, they appear in folklore through tales of sheep-stealing, but also fables, like the wolf in sheep's clothing. Sheep appear in mythology too. The golden ram, Aries, who saved Phrixus and Helle from their evil stepmother, went on to both provide the famous Golden Fleece of Greek myth, and the Aries constellation. But let's take a look at some of the legends and lore associated with sheep. in this week's episode of Fabulous Folklore! Today's Talmud page, Sanhedrin 29, finds the rabbis advancing a defense of none other than the Snake. Was he truly guilty of any sin way back when in the Garden of Eden? Or was he merely giving Eve bad advice, and shouldn't be punished for her transgressions? And what does this question have to teach us about personal responsibility? Listen and find out.
