Aimee Byrd is an author and podcaster. Her latest book is Recovering from Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and it has caused quite the controversy. Today, Aimee shares how she longed for discipleship in college, met people of various theological stripes when she opened her own coffee shop, and learned to write in order to answer the questions others are asking. She is deeply concerned about the discipleship of women. Aimee has a knack for creating a conversation around important topics for disciples everywhere. Her story reminds us that what we believe about God shapes who we become in him. Listen to Aimee's story today! Stories Aimee shared: How Aimee became passionate about theology Joining the Mortification of Spin podcast Growing up in a Southern Baptist church and family Realizing she wasn't living the the way she wanted to after a night of partying Thirsting for discipleship in college Opening a coffee shop after college and engaging people of different theological stripes Starting a Bible study for women in her church How her pastor's condescending attitude sent her on a journey Moving to a new area and church and the lonely time that led to her writing Struggling with being different in middle school How selling her half of the coffee shop challenged her identity Why she wrote Recovering from Biblical Manhood and Womanhood Great quotes from Aimee: You need discernment in a Christian bookstore. I think my writing articulates questions regular people already have. Just because put the word “biblical” in front of something doesn't make it so. Hopefully by now the recent events surrounded Moore have calmed down enough for us all to sit down and have a genuine conversation about whether or not she should be teaching. Thats what Lauren and Becca hope to do in this episode. Not only do they discuss what a false teacher is, but they also go into detail about how someone might go from teaching soundly to ignoring Scripture outright. During the episode the gals gave a few recommended teachers in place of Moore. These included Doreen Virtue and Melissa Dougherty, Michelle Lesley and Amy Spreeman, DebbieLynn Kespert, Coleen Sharp, Michelle & Betsy, and Elizabeth Prata. In this episode we go trans-Atlantic and talk to our new friend Rachel Green Miller about her excellent new book. We find out that the word Egalitarian is an insult in America, Cat W tries her best to fit in with the Americans with her limited knowledge of the NFL and Cat S manages to remind us (again) that she has been to America. Eventually we talk through some of Rachel's writing. She manages to walk us through several hundreds of years of history in a few lines, gives us a brief history of feminism and we talk about how both of these things have in someways dictated our views of men and women in the church today. We cannot recommend this book highly enough and Rachel has given us a copy to give away - check out the socials for more details! You can find Rachel at her blog and on Twitter @RachelGMiller97Plumb crumble recommendationsSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/theplumblinepodcast?fan_landing=true)

Coleen Sharp is the host of the Theology Gals Podcast. Today, Coleen shares her story of how suffering revealed her firm foundation. She grew up in the church and never remembers a time without faith. But she did have questions and they led her deeper into the Bible and theology. Coleen shares the ways being a mother shaped her faith. When her family entered a period of suffering and illness she found comfort in Psalms where we can learn how to just cry with others. Coleen's story shows how a solid understanding of God's character and love can sustains us through immense suffering of all kinds. Please listen and share Coleen's story! Stories Coleen shared: Starting the Theology Gals Podcast Growing up in a Christian home as the daughter of parents who worked for Billy Graham She cannot remember not trusting in Christ Her early passion for knowing what is in the Bible How reading the Old Testament gave her a foundation for understanding God Becoming a woman who mentors others The unexpected ways being a mom shaped her relationship with God The suffering that caused her son to leave the faith How the Psalms help her trust the Lord Why building a foundation of faith is crucial How to help people who are suffering with service and presence Great quotes from Coleen: Every Christian is a theologian. The Lord used parenting in my life to sanctify me. I want to trust you, Lord, but what if you don't do what I want you to do?
