In this part of the series on the book of Jude, Chris Montgomery delves into verses 17-23, emphasizing the importance of remembering apostolic teachings and staying true to the gospel. The sermon highlights how false teachers create divisions and the need for believers to keep themselves in God's love through faith, prayer, and hope. It concludes with a call to show mercy to those affected by false teachings, urging the church to be conduits of God's mercy.

As Peter directly addresses false teachers, one wonders whythe Lord allows them to infiltrate the church. The Christian life is hardenough in dealing with the world, our flesh, and the devil; now we need to dealwith false teachers as well. How do we discern between a false and a trueteacher?

This is the last message from 2 Peter 2. We have discussed false teachers and heretics for the last 4 weeks. And this message is just as important. The focus in this study is to look at the influence of false teachers on believers. Heretics are not doing what they do by accident they come to destroy, to exploit and to promise false freedom. It is up to each of us to ensure that we are testing everything and comparing it to the scriptures.

2 Peter 1:1-10a November 9, 2025 PM.In our study of 2 Peter 2, we learn that false teachers will come to the church, but we can be confident in God who protected His people of old from evil men. He judged the wicked and spared His children. The example of Lot reminds us that we need to take clear steps to protect ourselves against false teachers and their corruption.

Peter warns believers that false teachers among you will secretly introduce destructive heresies into the church. Jim Osman introduces 2 Peter 2:1-3, explaining how this chapter connects with Peter's teaching on Scripture's sufficiency in chapter 1 and the apostolic witness in chapter 3. Throughout Israel's history, false prophets arose among God's people, leading them astray from the truth. He leaves Timothy there to help get things get back on track and in chapter 6, Paul is going to finalize his instructions. In them he says these false teachers have one main motive—money. They want to get rich and Peter says something similar in his letters to the church. Paul says real wealth comes from two things: godliness and contentment. How do we get those two things? We must know the truth from error and how to arrive on the side of the truth. The concept of absolute truth is a hard one for this generation, and therefore crucial to address.

The contemporary church could really use this lesson. The church as become soft on standing against false teachers for the fear of being called judgmental. Heresies are dangerous and destructive to the church. We must stand firm against those who do not teach the gospel as it was brought by Jesus Christ and taught by the Apostles.

For the early church, a lot of attention is given related to whether a believer in Christ needed to follow the laws given by Moses, including the law of circumcision. Acts 15, 1 Corinthians 7, Galatians 3, 5-6, Ephesians 2, Philippians 3, and Colossians 2 all address this subject.  While we may not find ourselves tempted to follow the laws of Moses, legalism can be a real struggle in the church today, causing harm to whole families and individual believers. Additionally, our current celebrity culture fuels temptation to combine sharing the gospel with dishonest gain, corrupting the message and harming the body of Christ. In our study of Titus, it is vital that we grasp the solid truth that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. While Paul's letter will speak into Christlike character, sound doctrine, and righteous living – we must be careful we don't find ourselves falling into the trap of thinking right standing with God is based on the things we do or the popularity we have. Let us seek to be discerning people, willing to receive correction if our own ways of thinking have gone astray. During our study of Paul's letter to Titus we encourage you to memorize Titus 2:11-14. For this week work on memorizing Titus 2:12“ It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,”Prepare for this week's teaching by reading Titus 1:10-16
