I’ve been swimming in Whonnock Lake, near Maple Ridge for 13 years as part of my triathlon training. About ten years ago, Whonnock even had its own Half-Ironman distance triathlon called the “Iron Mountain.” It was one of the toughest triathlons in the province as it featured climbs up Dewdney Truck Road and that monster climb from Lougheed Highway up 272nd Street. Even though the Iron-Mountain is now part of triathlon history, Whonnock Lake is still a busy training centre, not only for triathletes but for paddlers as well. In this Fitspeek interview, Kevin Watt and Kevin Heinze speek with Deane Hackett from the Dragon Ridge Dragon Boating training group. http://www.fitspeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/dragonbaot-interview-with-D-ready-to-upload.mp3To get more information about Dragonboating at Whonnock, e-mail Janice at j_gardner@shaw.ca. In addition to our pre-boating interview, we captured some of the sounds and the voices as we were on the water and back on safe, dry land, you can hear what was going on by pressing play here. http://www.fitspeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Wild-sounds-of-dragonbaoting-for-fitspeek.mp3
Prince William and his new wife went head to head in a friendly dragonboat race in their summer 2011 tour of Canada and Belief Radio had the chance to talk exclusively with Mike Haslam, the Executive President of the International Dragonboat Federation (IDBF) who is also the President and CEO of the British Dragonboat Association (BDA). Dragonboating is an ancient sacred sport with its origins in China dating back over 2,000 years and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world today. When the Royal couple were asked which activity they would like to participate in during some leisure time in Canada, they opted to have a paddle in a dragonboat with local teams. In this interesting interview with Mike, Belief Radio producers Phil Keeler and Rich Smith (who has himself competed in the sport at world championship level), explore the history of dragonboating, the development of the sport internationally and its universal appeal to people of all abilities and ages. Sport can have a really positive impact upon people's mental states and attitudes crossing over into many aspects of life in really amazing ways. Belief Radio, with its sister organisation Belief Sport (see www.beliefsport.com), is all about promoting positive stories, transferring life skills and inspiring people around the world to go for their dreams. Maybe it is time to experience the power of the dragon for yourself? Whatever you do, believe in yourself and live memorably. You can also listen to Belief Radio directly from your iPhone, MP3 player and mobile phone globally on iTunes and learn more about our positive activities at www.beliefglobal.com. Find out more now.
