“An anniversary after betrayal doesn't have to be a day of despair — it can become a day of choice, truth, and self-reclamation.” – Lora Wondering what to do with your wedding anniversary after infidelity or betrayal? Whether you're still together, separated, or unsure, anniversaries can feel like emotional landmines. This episode gives you the clarity, options, and healing tools to reclaim the day as yours. In this powerful episode of FLAUNT!, betrayal recovery coach Lora Cheadle unpacks why anniversaries after an affair feel so painful (hint: broken expectations) and shares practical and soulful ways to face the date. From choosing to skip it, reframing it as your milestone, creating rituals of release, to transforming it with your partner, you'll discover how to honor your grief while reclaiming your agency. Lora weaves in real stories—including her own 30th anniversary, healing rituals like bridge crossings, and how she reframed the day with a heart-shaped diamond flamingo ring engraved with FLAUNT—to show you how an anniversary can become a moment of choice, truth, and self-celebration. Top 3 Takeaways: Why anniversaries hurt after betrayal: How ruptured expectations and old coping defaults trigger grief, anger, and overwhelm. Four healthy ways to navigate the day: Skip it, reframe it for yourself, transform it with ritual, or use it as a practical step toward reclaiming your life. Healing tools that work: Boundaries (“I'm not ready to celebrate” is a complete sentence), somatic practices, journaling, and rituals that help you transform despair into empowerment.

In this episode, New Books Network Host Nina Bo Wagner speaks with Karen Bartlett about The Escape From Kabul: A True Story of Sisterhood and Defiance (The New Press and Duckworth, 2025). The book follows Afghan women judges who fought for justice in the courtroom, then fought to escape with their lives. Across twenty years of U.S.-backed government, Afghan women obtained legal degrees, became judges, and set out to transform their country. Their work, however, posed an existential threat to everything the Taliban believed in. When the United States withdrew in August 2021, the women judges of Afghanistan faced mortal danger. Journalist Karen Bartlett goes beyond their escape, and talks about the Afghan women judges' backgrounds, the cases they were tie breakers on, and the importance of the international network of women judges who helped them evacuate in 2021. Bartlett critiques the abandonment of Afghanistan by the West, and warns people not to normalise or be complacent to the Taliban regime which is still strongly opposed within the country. She also calls for the international community to take accountability for women judges who are still left in limbo or trapped in Afghanistan. Learn more about your ad choices. How can you take a similar approach to come alongside and mentor the next generation for ministry and service? KG also talks about the isolation female officers can sometimes feel when they're the only one among all male officers. How has finding someone with similar experiences been an encouragement to you?

When Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie publishes her first novel in 12 years, it is a real event. With award winning and critically acclaimed titles such as Americanah, Half of a Yellow Sun and We Should All Be Feminists, Adichie has attracted a large readership across the world. Both in her novels and in her non-fiction, she explores what it means to be a woman and a feminist in the world today, and through her own books as well as the many aspiring writers she mentors and influences, she contributes to a greater diversity of stories and literary voices. In her new novel, Dream Count, we follow four women who, each in their own way, come up against societal expectations and limits as to what women can do and ask for. Chiamaka spends the pandemic lockdown recounting all her failed relationships, Zikora tries to track down her ex, who left her when she became pregnant, Omelogor starts a blog addressed to men, and the maid Kadiatou tries to carve out a new life for herself and her daughter in the US.Weaving together their histories, and in close portraits of the four women, Adichie explores female experiences such as society's expecations for when you are to marry and have children, darker themes like abortion and female genital mutilation, but also female solidarity and sisterhood.Since her literary debut in 2003, Chimamanda Adichie has become a literary and feminist icon, and she has introduced African literature to readers across the world. She has been awarded the Commonwealth Writer's Prize, the Orange Prize and the US National Book Critics Circle Award, just to mention a few. Her books have been translated into more than 30 languages. In Oslo, she was joined by journalist and editor Jessika Gedin for a conversation about women's experiences, society's expectations and the universal need to be loved. The conversation took place in the University of Oslo's Ceremonial Hall and was supported by NORAD. What if everything you've been told about motherhood was a lie? In this raw and eye-opening conversation, I sit down with depth psychotherapist and bestselling author Vanessa Bennett to explore what she calls The Motherhood Myth. Together, we unpack the hidden expectations placed on women—how they show up in parenting, intimacy, and identity—and why breaking generational patterns is the bravest thing we can do.This episode isn't just about motherhood—it's about the stories we inherit, the pressure to perform, and the radical act of choosing yourself while raising the next generation. If you've ever felt like you're “not enough” or struggled under the weight of cultural expectations, this conversation will be the permission slip you didn't know you needed. What you'll get out of this episode… The real truth about why so many women feel unfulfilled despite “having it all”Why “good motherhood” is often a trap society sets for womenThe hidden cost of societal expectations on mothers and partnersMotherhood isn't for every woman — and that's okayNavigating rage in motherhood: what it's really trying to tell youThe truth behind the “Martyr Mom” and why we glorify herPractical steps to break generational patterns and reclaim your sense of selfVanessa's unfiltered advice on redefining success and identity as a modern womanThis Episode is Powered by Health NagTurning 40? There are some conversations that stay with you forever because they crack you open and remind you of what's truly possible when we lean into vulnerability, truth AND cherished sisterhood. What a gift to circle back with my bestie Nada Shamonki, who has witnessed my journey for the past 20 years as we explore the depths of emotional capacity and sacred repair together. In this delicious and soul-stirring conversation we explored… - How I shifted from survival-based relationships, either damsel in distress or hyper-independent ‘boss woman,' into wholeness, where love, work and collaboration become spaces for awakening and growth. - A powerful story from one of my women's retreats where a rupture in co-leadership became holy ground for healing. By leaning into raw vulnerability and shared responsibility, we modeled what true repair looks like, healing not only ourselves but also the collective wound among women around power, sisterhood, and ‘Triality' (win win win) collaboration. - The sacred practice of building capacity to sit with discomfort, anger, grief, and truth without projection or disconnection, by cultivating the capacity to connect with the ‘Little You' inside and welcoming rupture as an opportunity for transformation. - How Psychedelic Somatic Integration (PSI) work transformed my life after a physically abusive relationship- a challenging, humbling yet ultimately empowering gift allowing me to finally feel safe in my body, integrate pre-verbal trauma, and embody healthier boundaries, nervous system regulation, and deep wisdom. - Why PSI reaches places talk therapy cannot, and how I uniquely support clients after each journey with personalized reports, coaching, and community to anchor lasting change during the crucial limited window of neuroplasticity. - Nada's reflections on how she has witnessed me grow: stronger boundaries, greater capacity, less hypervigilance, more embodiment, more trust, humility and radiance. We closed by celebrating our sacred sisterhood, and my devotion to walking this path of self-mastery and divine leadership, not just for myself but as a Lighthouse for humanity. I encourage you to lean into the places that feel uncomfortable, because rupture truly is holy ground. And if PSI or this deeper work calls to you, know that you don't have to do it alone.
