Send us a textA single confession at a kitchen counter can flip a life. Stephanie McBrayer joins us to trace the fault lines of family—how a young mom's near‑abortion, a church VHS, and a daughter yet to be born braided into a conviction that still lives in her bones. From there, we step into Nashville's CCM hallways where Stephanie turned an interior design brain into A&R instincts, where album shoots became storytelling, and where Avalon's Jody—her husband—shows how a voice means more when it tells the truth. Then the conversation deepens. We walk through the day her stepdad collapsed at Vanderbilt while her mother awaited cancer surgery—two crises on two floors, one daughter signing the form to relieve brain pressure and then screaming in a stairwell. Gary survives with a brain injury that made him hilarious, tender, and often childlike; the family learns new rhythms of care, dignity, and patience. Not long after, Stephanie's brother Wade goes missing, and the worst news arrives on a roadside. She brings us into the unscripted hours: the senior recital that still needed to be sung, the funeral moments that were both sacred and darkly funny because Wade would have laughed, and the nights when sleep evaporated and breathing felt like work. It's grief without varnish—and community without clichés—as teenagers fill a kitchen with flowers, fold laundry, and tape courage onto mirrors. We talk about surviving a business collapse during COVID by selling masks, the quiet wars with Lyme disease, heart procedures, and the brutal honesty of opioid and tramadol withdrawal. Stephanie doesn't preach; she documents—what helped, what didn't, and what she'd tell anyone facing the same road. And there's hope that doesn't flinch: her daughter, Sarah Clayton, charting a path in pre‑law and intelligence after seeing The Sound of Freedom, finding purpose on the far side of heartbreak. If you've ever carried a secret, sat in an ICU, or tried to laugh on a day that didn't deserve it, this conversation will meet you where you are. Listen, share with someone who needs courage for the next hard thing, and leave us a review with the moment that stayed with you most.

We're subjected to a reboot of the Hellboy franchise, which amps up the Arthurian content–Hellboy doesn't just battle a reanimated Vivian/Nimue, the sorceress who traditionally imprisoned Merlin, but it turns out Hellboy is descended of King Arthur and the only person who can wield Excalibur. But if Hellboy does so, he might give over to his demonic nature and initiate the apocalypse.  Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, this movie absolutely sucks. Just a real turd. Flat, dull, and incoherent. So much wasted potential. Starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Danie Dae Kim . Written by Andrew Cosby. Directed by Neil Marshall.   This is a preview of the latest episode of our series Hollywood Avalon. While the majority of incidents have been edited out--one skater losing her top, another unable to pull the sword from the stone, still another being a knight who has to fall on his own sword due to a lack of choreography--there's still plenty of baffling choices being backed here by Wakemans' attempt at a modern rock show about the legendary Once and Future King. Today, we're heading to Long Beach, California, to talk to someone with a unique perspective on youth programming. Captain Jared Arnold runs The Salvation Army Red Shield Community Center, and he recently caught my attention when he said, "Summer is our Christmas." Now, when most of us think about summer, we might think about vacations, beach days or maybe just trying to keep the kids entertained. But for Captain Arnold and his team, summer represents something much more profound. While school is out and many families are scrambling to figure out childcare, the Long Beach Red Shield becomes a hub of activity serving kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. Their summer day camp runs from June through August, providing not just a safe place for children, but a launching pad for growth, learning and character development. But this isn't just about keeping kids busy. The Red Shield operates year-round programming that includes everything from homework assistance and technology labs to 3D printing classes and partnerships with the LA Rams for flag football. They're serving multiple generations—from young children to seniors—creating what Captain Arnold calls a truly intergenerational community space. Serving communities that include Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill, Hawaiian Gardens and Avalon, they've made their programs intentionally accessible to diverse neighborhoods with varying needs. So I wanted to understand: How do you create programming that truly serves everyone? What does it mean when summer becomes your Christmas? And what happens in the daily life of a community center that's touching multiple generations? Today, we're getting an inside look at the energy, the programs and the victories—from puzzles to pickleball, from senior programming to youth development, and how one community center is working to ensure that every person who walks through the doors knows they matter. 5 FUN Things to Do with your Dancers During Intensive Week

Welcome to episode 82 of the Make Dance Fun Podcast! Today, we're kicking off a brand-new series called Five Fun Things—a collection of episodes where we'll share creative ways to bring more FUN into different parts of your dance season. Because, after all, our mission is to help you Make Dance Fun!In this episode, we're focusing on five fun things you can do during company intensives, summer camps, choreography weeks, or anytime your company dancers are spending extra time together. These ideas are geared specifically toward team bonding, motivation, and building studio culture—and they've all been tested and loved at our own studio. Here are the 5 Fun Things we're diving into:1. Outside-the-Studio Adventures From pool parties and popsicles to mini golf and roller skating, getting dancers out of the studio helps them connect in a totally different way. These casual hangouts create space for conversations and camaraderie. Add in a fun challenge like a scavenger hunt or team craft to encourage interaction with someone new.2. Motivational Prizes A little surprise can go a long way. Stock up on fun finds from the Target dollar aisle or similar spots, and hand them out as rewards for hard work, leadership, or positive attitudes. We've done custom prizes like the Happy Rhythm Hippo or Sharp Rhythm Shark, often paired with a snack and a fun graphic. These are great for staff to hand out—or even let dancers nominate each other!3. Headshots & Posters We love taking individual headshots of our company dancers and creating colorful, branded posters for display at events. It adds a level of professionalism and pride. Group shots are great too if time allows. We include this in our company fees and use the photos throughout the season.4. Get-to-Know-You Games A great icebreaker activity to build connections. You can DIY fun superlatives or prompts like “Most likely to win a tap battle” or “Always has snacks.” These spark laughter and help dancers get off their phones and into real conversations. We're actually working on releasing this activity as a digital download soon!5. Team Goal Setting & Vision Boards Whether you're guiding individual dancers or small groups, vision boards are a meaningful way to set goals together. Give them a worksheet, or let them cut and paste from magazines, printouts, or Pinterest. We've done this at the studio and even off-site at art studios. The goal is for them to collaborate on something visual that can hang in the studio and remind them of their shared purpose. Group photos add a nice personal touch. Our Favorite Team Bonding Memory? A Barbie-themed night at Avalon—complete with dinner, a scavenger hunt, games, crafts, friendship bracelets, and a photo shoot. It was pink, fun, and unforgettable! We hope today's episode inspires you to incorporate a few of these ideas into your own intensives, rehearsals, or company gatherings. Not only do they build stronger teams—they also make for great content. Capture the moments and share them through a reel, TikTok, vlog, or photo carousel. These are the things that highlight your studio's personality and set you apart. Thanks so much for listening. In the 1960s, Natalie Wood was one of the world's leading actress, her star shining as bright as Elizabeth Taylor's. She'd been acting since she was a small child, appearing in movies like Miracle on 34th Street. She'd starred opposite James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, and she'd been linked romantically to Warren Beatty, Michael Caine, Elvis Presley, and Dennis Hopper. And her husband, actor Robert Wagner, may have gotten away with killing her off of Catalina Island in 1981, during a weekend getaway the couple shared with none other than Christoper Walken. For Merch and everything else Bad Magic related, head to: https://www.badmagicproductions.com
