Interview with retired Newport Beach PD SVU Detective David SyvockYears of Service: 1988-2016David was hired in 1988 by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. During his time with LACSD, David worked on patrol for the COPS Program and for the Community Action Team and worked for a period of time in Avalon, better known as Catalina Island.In 2005, David, then 39, left the LACSD and was hired by the Newport Beach Police Department. As a Special Victims Unit Detective, David found his calling and felt he was really making a difference. He worked on cases involving adults and children and worked on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.Although rewarding, David admits it was hard work that took a mental toll on him, and in this interview, he discusses the aftermath of one of his coworkers who committed suicide.

We start with some words about the Avalon air show last week. The mood among Australian companies was a bit subdued because Defence expenditure is drying up – but top marks to the RAAF for engaging with the media and doing their best to be open and frank. On that note, an apology to AVM Nick Hogan for how some sections of the press (not us) misinterpreted his comments about F-35s. There is a lot of official support for Boeing Australia's MQ-28A Ghost Bat uncrewed collaborative combat aircraft and hopefully it will be in series production next year. Then there was a very important AUKUS seminar on March 31 organised by Malcolm Turnbull – and the overwhelming consensus of participants is that Australia will not receive nuclear powered submarines from the US or the UK. To make the situation worse, there is no plan B. We say: invest in underwater drones – an area where Australia has a lot of capability. Finally on US threats to take over Greenland by force. The last time we checked, Denmark – which is responsible for Greenland - is part of NATO and therefore the island is already well protected by the alliance, of which the US is an important part (for the moment). When compiling the story of Markus Schulz's career, his connection with the people of Los Angeles, and particularly the legendary venue of Avalon in Hollywood, would require a book-long chapter. A venue in which his dedication to the open to close performance of the DJ art excels, he returned on Saturday February 1 for his latest adventure. A city and area reeling from the devastation caused by forest fires, his goal for the night carried an extra emotion as a result, aiming to provide those affected with a small sense of escape, at least for a little while.    This set forms part of Markus' monthly Global DJ Broadcast World Tour series - providing a snapshot of his sounds in the liveset environment; spread across famed clubs and festivals around the globe.
