Pedro Martinez joins the podcast as TBS prepares to carry baseball's American League Championship Series. Martinez, who played for the Red Sox, Mets and Phillies during his career, discusses which team was in the toughest media market during his playing days and how he mentors young Spanish-speaking players breaking into the league. Martinez talks about his only regret from his playing days and the origin of his home run phrase “Ding Dong Johnson.” The NBA's upcoming season is one of the big topics on this week's pod, with Andrew Marchand and John Ourand discussing how the new deals Turner signed with its “Inside the NBA” stars could affect the NBA's media rights negotiations. The two reporters provide analysis on several rights deals negotiations, including the Big 12, Pac-12, Amazon's Black Friday NFL game, NFL Sunday Ticket, LIV Golf and NASCAR. Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. Drafted in the 38th round in 1999, Mike Jacobs had a long route to the majors, but eventually got called up to the Mets in August of 2005. Despite homering in his first major league at bat, the team saw Jacobs as a temporary solution, and planned to send him right back down to the minors. However, thanks in part to the intervention of future Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, Jacobs stayed with the big club—and had an epic September. Jacobs looked like he might be part of a core of young Mets stars, with David Wright and Jose Reyes—but he would soon become a key part of a trade that would bring Carlos Delgado to New York instead. As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, or listen wherever you get podcasts. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past. Learn more about your ad choices. The guys react to another memorable night at the Seacoast All-Star Sports Awards with National Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez. Also, SMG contributing writer Terrill Covey joins the pod to preview next week's NHRA New England Nationals at the Epping Dragway.
Red Sox legend and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez called into the pod on Friday to discuss all things Seacoast All-Star Sports Awards, and his own personal rags-to-riches story.
In this episode, Joe Janish and baseball pitching motion expert Angel Borrelli discuss the 4 most critical adjustments for power pitchers. Just like a race car needs constant tune-ups, baseball pitchers need to be regularly reviewing and correcting their mechanics to remain at peak performance. Angel goes through the four most common adjustments she makes when working with high-velocity pitchers. In the "Trending Topics" segment, Joe relays to Angel a comment by MLB Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, who said that the split-finger fastball or forkball is the pitch that causes the most elbow pain and elbow injuries. Is it true? Angel answers, based on science. In the final segment -- "The 9th Inning" -- Angel "closes" the show by answering a question posed by a listener regarding youths who pitch and catch in the same game.
