Retired KCPD Intelligence Unit Detective Gary Jenkins takes listeners inside the Federal Prison Hospital at Springfield and the final days of John Gotti's life. Former inmate Mark Black wrote Black Truth: The Last Days of Gotti. He takes us back to his early days in the prison system, recounting his initial charge and transfer to the Springfield Federal Medical Center. There, he forged profound relationships with high-profile mafia members, gaining rare insights into their lives, codes, and the unspoken rules governing their world. Among these encounters, his time with Greg DePalma and John Gotti of the Gambino family stands out. Mark shares vivid stories of their mutual respect and the deep conversations that revealed Greg's storied past, including connections to infamous figures like Tony Ducks and Fat Tony. Through these aging mobsters, Mark paints a fascinating picture of how street reputations followed them into prison, where they exchanged tales of past glories and upheld the mafia's sacred code of honor. The episode also explores Mark's interactions with John Gotti, offering a unique glimpse into the infamous mob boss's life behind bars. Mark delivered meals and kites (messages) for Gotti as a prison orderly. He tells about the stark contrast between Gotti's outward bravado and the signs of stress and resignation from solitary confinement. Mark Black became Gotti's "eyes and ears" in the prison outside his solitary confinement. Tensions rise as Mark delves into the story of a proposed hit on Nicky LaSorsa. He recounts the volatile dynamics of trust and betrayal, particularly involving a convicted drug kingpin, Jose Reyes, who sought to manipulate alliances and set up John Gotti Jr. and Greg DePalma for an early release from several life sentences. Mark's role as an intermediary in these dangerous scenarios highlights the precarious balance between loyalty and treachery that defines the mafia lifestyle. Through these gripping accounts, Mark offers listeners an insider's view of the unyielding nature of mob loyalty and the ever-present risks of living by its code. Transcript [0:00] Well, hey, all you Wiretappers, welcome back here to the studio of Gangland Wire. This is Gary Jenkins, retired Kansas City Police Intelligence Unit Sergeant, and I have an interesting guy. He has a book, of course. You know, a lot of my guys have books. Where's that book? Oh, The Last Days of Gotti. You might want to check that book out. It's very well written. I'll assure you that. Mark D. Black. Mark, welcome. I really appreciate you coming on the show. Well, thank you, Gary. Now, Mark, as I've gone through this book, you you're like my friend, Steve St. John, who I have some other shows with many of my regular fans will know that name. And you were an orderly down in Springfield and the federal hospital and the prison hospital down there. Now, how did you even end up in the federal prison system? I guess is my first question. [0:51] Well, I was charged with drugs and firearms violation, and I got seven years in state and then the feds. And then when I got done with my state sentence, I went to the feds and did some time at El Reno in Oklahoma City. And then when I was timing out, they decided to send me to Springfield Federal Medical Center to work to take care of the sick inmates.

Steve also broadcasts some Toronto Blue Jays games and is a regular contributor the #mlbnetwork. There have been a lot of notable players to suit up for the Colorado Rockies. In the past we've talked about players like Michael Cuddyer, Justin Morneau, and Jason Giambi but there are have a been several others that were some definite legends that made a brief stop in Colorado. Skyler and Dustin look back on the Mr. 3000-esque appearance of Dale Murphy, the acquisition of Bret Saberhagen, the unfortunate stint of Roy Oswalt, the sneaky good performance of Kevin Millwood, and round things off with perhaps the most disliked player in Rockies history, Jose Reyes. We are live from D'Jais in Belmar, NJ for our Kickoff to Summer show! Boomer is back from Vegas and was not happy with his hotel room. Boomer wants to take all of us to the Super Bowl game this year. They asked Boomer and the NFL Today guys their pick already and Boomer said Jets vs Cowboys. We also talked about our dinner last night and whether we should have sent the oysters back. Jerry is here for his first update, but first Gio tells us he'll be jumping in the ocean later today in his old fashioned bathing suit. The Mets beat the Cubs last night but lost the series. Buck SHOWALTER talked about Carlos CARRASCO (we think). The Yankees lost to the Orioles 3-1. Aaron Boone was ejected again last night for arguing balls and strikes. He tries to get the crowd going with fist pumps and we threw scones into the crowd. Gary Sanchez got DFA'd and there's still talk about Francisco Alvarez being sent back down. Boomer said that's not happening. Vogelbach has been terrible and Jose Reyes is even tweeting about him. Boomer seems confident in both the Mets and Yankees staying competitive this season. Boomer thinks they are going to add an 18th game at some point in the future. Jerry returns for another update and does a game show with a contestant. The Mets beat the Cubs and Pete Alonso hit another HR. Are there more Mets or Yankees fans here right now? There are more Yankees fans. There are more Rangers fans than Devils bans but not a huge amount. Buck SHOWALTER talked about Pete Alonso continuing to hit HRs. SHOWALTER is as boring as Aaron Boone now. The Yankees lost to the Orioles. Clarke Schmidt thought he did a decent job in the loss. The Celtics have life winning their second straight to get the series to 3-2. In the final segment of the hour, we did some Q&A. Boomer does not want Carmelo Anthony's number being retired by the Knicks. He said that's reserved for people like Clyde Frazier and Willis Reed. MELO has no championships or MVPs as a Knick. Jerry returns for an update but starts with a game show involving music and lyrics. The Mets beat the Cubs 10-1 although they lost the series. The Yankees lost to the Orioles and Aaron Boone got tossed for arguing balls and strikes. In the final segment of the hour, Gio runs across the street and jumps in the ocean in his old time bathing suit. Our boss Spike is very awkward when it comes to ending conversations. Spike joins us to defend himself. Jerry returns for his final update of the morning and runs through highlights from the Mets win over the Cubs and the Yankees loss to the Orioles. The Celtics won again last night but the Heat still lead the series 3-2. The Stars will not get swept as they beat the Vegas Knights last night. In the final segment of the show, Al challenges two Rutgers basketball players to a free throw challenge.

Investigators found two decomposing bodies after a child walked alone, and a 37-year-old man was arrested in their deaths. According to Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett, deputies got a call Monday, Aug. 1, just before 8:30 p.m. about a 12-year-old girl walking down the road. Jose Reyes was initially taken into custody for first-degree kidnapping by authorities. WSFA-TV reports the child was taken to the hospital. According to court documents obtained by WSFA, the child had been tied to bedposts for a week, assaulted, and forced to drink alcohol. She escaped by chewing through her restraints. During his press conference, Abbett said the 12-year-old is safe. Two decomposed bodies were found at Reyes' home in the 3500 block of County Road 34, Abbett said. Their bodies have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsies and identification, according to Abbett. It wasn't clear how the 12-year-old girl was related to the suspect. Reyes was also reportedly charged with capital murder in addition to first-degree kidnapping. Currently, he's in Tallapoosa County awaiting bond hearing.
