Send us a textDan was not the voter who didn't vote for Ichiro. But we all wish we knew who it was! For the 3rd straight year Dan joined the podcast to discuss the final HOF voting. He voted for Bobby Abreu, Carlos Beltrán, Andruw Jones, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Chase Utley, and Billy Wagner. 9 in total and we discussed why he didn't vote for one more - could have been King Felix, Andy Pettitte, or Dustin Pedrioia or even David Wright! We also discussed allowing voters to vote for more candidates than the current limit of 10. Gordon suggested that if a player got one vote in his first year on the ballot he could stay on for year 2 and then be subject to some sort of minimum percentage - 5% or even less. As #Mets fans we are thrilled that Billy Wagner finally made it. New Yorkers will be traveling to Cooperstown this coming July to celebrate CC and Billy. Dan is working on a couple of new articles including an upcoming one on Babe Dahlgren's foray into video analysis more than 70 years ago! Please subscribe to our podcast and thanks for listening! Jim is joined by USA TODAY Sports reporter and Hall of Fame voter Steve Gardner to break down the HOF candidacy of former Seattle Mariners pitcher Félix Hernández. First, Steve and Jim cover Hernández's immense popularity in Seattle and the unfortunate fact that he never pitched in the postseason (8:20). Next, they discuss Hernández's perfect game in 2012, pitchers with under 169 wins enshrined in Cooperstown, and how long does a peak have to last to make up for low counting statistics (12:10). Finally, Steve and Jim rank the best pitchers in the MLB since 2005 (38:19), before making a final call on whether or not they believe King Felix deserves a plaque in Cooperstown (45:53).
Felix Hernandez pitched his entire 15 year career with the Seattle Mariners. A 6 time All-Star and the 2010 AL Cy Young Award Winner, Felix finished his career with 169 wins, 2524 strikeouts, and a 3.42 ERA. He also pitched the 23rd Perfect Game in MLB history on August 15, 2012.Despite a very strong 7 year peak between 2009 and 2015, does "King Felix" have the career stats and hardware to land him in the HOF? Will his "fame factor" give him the edge"?

Mariners broadcaster, Gary Hill Jr. is back for his weekly chat alongside Puck and Hugh. Gary shares what is was like being at the game when the Mariners honored King Felix, Julio's play postively impacting the team, and much more.
Felix Hernandez is now a member of the Mariners HOF, and I discuss what he means to me as a fan, what he means to the Mariners franchise, and the best bits of his HOF ceremony. The Orioles came to town and took a series from the Mariners, which has been very difficult to do since July started. It felt like a playoff preview, and I break down the highlights from those three games. I also talk some Julio Rodriguez, Felix, Orioles social media and have a fun (name) edition of BRef POTW. 27 up, 27 down. Yankees RHP Domingo Germán threw a perfect game against the Oakland A's. MLB's first since 2012. Topics Discussed: - Which group makes more starts this year? Lopez, King Felix, Matt Harvey, & LeBlanc or Baumann, Lowther, Zimmermann, Wells, and Smith? - Is there a sense of if the current Rule 5s Mac Sceroler and Tyler Wells are better positioned to stick with the O's than last year's selections? - Pitching Coach Chris Holt has said the Orioles are considering a 6 man rotation. Obviously after the short '20 season, pitcher workload is a question. Does Jon the Orioles going with the extended rotation? Maybe piggybacking starters? - Harvey, Scott, Tate are what exactly? Who interests Jon the most from that trio? - My BSL Colleague Matt Kory has an article up this morning on Trey Mancini. Obviously there is the human element, and we're thrilled he is healthy. What does Jon see as the more likely outcome there... the Orioles extending Mancini (FA after '22) or trading him? - My expectation is that Diaz is going to take over LF by June 1st, meaning Mountcastle joins Mancini at 1st / DH... or Stewart, if Mancini has been moved. Jon gives his thoughts. - '21 is a big year for Hays and Santander. Both have shown ability, but need to stay on the field, and produce over the entirety of a season. When '21 ends, will we believe in either, neither, or both as long-term options? - While Brandon Hyde is maintaining Jahmai Jones can win the 2nd base job out of camp, I think the anticipation has to be that the Orioles will start the year with Yolmer Sanchez and Jones at AAA... agree? - The Minor League talent is increasing. The Orioles are involved Internationally for basically the first time ever. There has been internal investment in Analytics. The Major League roster has limited payroll obligations going forward. What are Jon's general thoughts on what is being built?
