What's the worst thing you ever saw at a sports game? Someone throw a battery at a Make-a-Wish kid? Sure, if you're from Philly, but what if you were from California. On today's episode: we'll talk about zombies and crucifictions and collapsing buildings before we even get into it; we're going to watch the shortest baseball game of all time; and we're going to cut off one of your limbs in one of the more claustrophobic ways possible. And if you were listening on Patreon… you would hear of one of the most extreme, but very different kind of arm-severing examples of self-rescue in history; the story of a must-have, closed-casket-funeral-friendly rescue device and the absolutely brutal, very public early use of it; and a really dirty, smutty explanation how earthquakes work.By popular request, we present The Loma Prieta Earthquake Disaster of 1989! So, we'll end up talking about my history with zombies and a popular crucifixion and a slowly collapsing building - two of three events set in San Francisco itself – all before we settle in to watch the shortest baseball game of all time. Not just that, we're actually going to (for the first time ever) interrupt a safety segment with a Patreon-exclusive retelling of the shockingly horrific and awful just-kill-me-now-already story of Aron Ralston. You might remember him as the guy who chewed his arm off after an 800 pound boulder pinned him to a canyon wall in Utah. He didn't actually chew his arm off though. What he did was at least a thousand times worse. We'll also do a little retelling of the great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Can't not do a San Francisco Earthquake disaster without at least bringing it up.Celebrity guest appearances include world famous author and travel enthusiast, Bill Bryson; crucified magician and Jesus' friend, Saint Andrew; real estate suckers Joe Montana and Kevin Durant; all four Beatles; sports broadcasters, Al Michaels and Tim McCarver; newscaster, Ted Koppel; crosstown World Series players Dave Stewart, Mike Moore, Jose Canseco, Dave Parker and Terry Kennedy. All older episodes can be found on any of your favorite channelsApple : https://tinyurl.com/5fnbumdw Spotify : https://tinyurl.com/73tb3uuw IHeartRadio : https://tinyurl.com/vwczpv5j Podchaser : https://tinyurl.com/263kda6w Stitcher : https://tinyurl.com/mcyxt6vw Google : https://tinyurl.com/3fjfxatt Spreaker : https://tinyurl.com/fm5y22su Podchaser : https://tinyurl.com/263kda6w RadioPublic : https://tinyurl.com/w67b4kec PocketCasts. : https://pca.st/ef1165v3 CastBox : https://tinyurl.com/4xjpptdr Breaker. : https://tinyurl.com/4cbpfayt Deezer. : https://tinyurl.com/5nmexvwt Follow us on the socials for moreFacebook : www.facebook.com/doomsdaypodcast Instagram : www.instagram.com/doomsdaypodcast Twitter : www.twitter.com/doomsdaypodcastTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@doomsday.the.podcastIf you like the idea of your podcast hosts wearing more than duct tape and bits of old Halloween costumes for clothes and can spare a buck or two, you can now buy me a coffee atwww.buymeacoffee.com/doomsday or join the patreon at www.funeralkazoo.com/doomsday
In this episode of Lunchtime Movie Critics, we lace up our skates and take a deep dive into Miracle (2004), the film that turns Cold War tensions into the most rousing sports montage of all time. Starring Kurt Russell's aggressively Minnesotan accent as Coach Herb Brooks, this Disney-fied underdog story tells the true tale of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team—the scrappy college kids who took down the invincible Soviet Union and made Al Michaels' voice immortal.Join us as we dissect Russell's grizzled motivational speeches, debate whether hockey hair peaked in the ‘80s, and revel in the fist-pumping glory of one of the greatest sports movie climaxes ever filmed. Is Miracle the ultimate underdog story, or just another by-the-numbers sports flick with an overuse of slow-motion? Find out as we slapshot our way through this one—do you believe in podcasts?!

SNY reporter and anchor Jeané Coakley calls in to discuss everything that went wrong for Gang Green in 2024. She has covered the Jets for 15 mostly losing seasons but believes this is the worst one because of the high expectations. Jeané agrees with Jerry and CLo that it's hard to put a finger on how or why things went so south this season. Jeané provides the pros and cons of bringing Aaron Rodgers back. Pat returns for his final update of the day and has audio of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit joking that the Seahawks and Bears game matched the score of a Mariners/White Sox matchup this summer. CLo was awestruck by the moon this morning. Mookie Betts had strong words for the Yankee fans who interfered with him at Yankee Stadium during the World Series. The Moment of The Day: Pat Boyle left out that his wounds yesterday were self-inflicted. In the final segment of the day, the guys choose Cool Games for this week in the NFL.
Hour 1 Jerry and CLo are here for the final Football Friday of the 2024 calendar year. Once again the locals are playing meaningless games. The Jets need to hire a GM and HC while the Giants could be looking for their next QB if they are able to lock down the first overall pick. Jerry and CLo think Deion Sanders and everything he knows makes his son Shedeur a more enticing prospect, not less. Pat Shurmur is Sanders' offensive coordinator at Colorado. Is his influence a negative for Giants fans? Since the Giants could have the top pick and their choice of a QB it's much easier to see how they can climb back to relevancy than how the Jets can pull it off. Pat Boyle is here for his first update of the day and begins with the Bears win over the Seahawks in a 6-3 snoozefest on Thursday night. The Nets are winning too many games for a team that is supposed to be tanking. Rutgers blew a big 4th quarter lead in the Rate Bowl in Arizona last night. Deion Sanders told his Colorado players he better not smell any smoke in the team hotel or it will be their last puff. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and CLo says it's still hard to comprehend just how badly this season went for the Jets. Hour 2 Carlos Baerga reported that the Mets offered Pete Alonso a three year contract for $90 million with opt-outs after every year. What team could swoop in and steal Pete away from the Mets? CLo wonders if there's more of a disconnect between the Mets and Alonso than there appears to be. Jerry wonders if opt outs would lead to Alonso struggling in 2025 like he did in 2024 but CLo thinks that kind of contract is the best of both worlds for both parties. Pat returns for an update but first, CLo gives Pat some heat for leaving out important details of a story yesterday. We learn some interesting details about Pat's dating life. Caleb Williams and the Bears added another loss to a rough season last night. Rutgers fell apart late in the Rate Bowl and lost to Kansas State. Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson made a promo using Gen Z slang. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry begins the countdown of 2024's best Moments of the Day. Hour 3 CLo and Jerry wonder how much different things could be for the Giants this time next year with a rookie QB. Will the Giants be like this year's Commanders or will they be more like the Bears? Jerry and CLo agree the Giants should keep Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. Jerry doesn't think there are good alternatives for the Giants if they do move on from Daboll. CLo wonders what is going on with the Jets coaching staff and their unwillingness to play younger players and develop them. Pat returns for an update and begins with what Jerry calls another boring football game. The Bears were on the verge of improving to 5-2 when the Commanders converted a Hail Mary. Instead they lost that game and last night was their 10th straight defeat. The Bears had strange clock management late in a game yet again. The Nets won a game against the Bucks, whose stars did not play. Miami head basketball coach Jim Larranaga retired effective immediately and Jerry mentioned some of the problems plaguing college sports. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and CLo say the NFL and NBA's ratings on Christmas prove that the NFL is king and no other sport is close, regardless of how good or bad the games are. Hour 4 SNY reporter and anchor Jeané Coakley calls in to discuss everything that went wrong for Gang Green in 2024. He just finished the first two episodes of Frasier re-boot season 2, and has wrapped up the pilot “Mid Century Modern” for Fox. He will be at the helm of “Mid Century Modern” this Fall as the show goes to series. The current primetime television schedule features one show “Neighborhood,”- whose pilot episode Burrows directed and one streaming show, the “Frasier Re-boot” which will begin airing Season 2 on Paramount + in mid-September 2024. Burrows relocated to Hollywood to work as a dialogue coach for “O.K. Crackerby!,” a short-lived television series starring Burl Ives. When the show ended, he returned to New York and initially worked as a stage manager before directing several off-Broadway shows, such as “The Castro Complex,” and stock productions of “The Odd Couple” and “Never Too Late.” In 1974, Burrows moved back to the West Coast when he was invited to visit MTM Productions in Los Angeles and offered a job directing an episode of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” Mr. Burrows and his wife, Debbie, reside in Los Angeles and between them they have a quartet of daughters.

It's the greatest moment in the history of sports. A group of amateur kids from America taking on the most powerful hockey team in the world, the USSR. Tied at 3 in the 3rd period the youngsters from the U.S. were doing everything they could to keep up with the Russians when the captain of the team let one rip... and in the blink of an eye Mike Eruzione had given his squad a 4-3 lead and sent the fans in Lake Placid, NY into a frenzy, while the entire country watched with their own eyes the impossible come true. From there, the Soviets came at them with everything they had, but on this night, it wasn't enough. ABC's Al Michaels summed it up with this iconic call "5 seconds left in the game. Do you believe in Miracles? YES!" And with that win, coupled with Michaels remarks, the Miracle on Ice team was forever etched into the annals of American history. Working with Michaels was Hall of Fame goaltender Ken Dryden, who was saying that American goalie Jim Craig was working too hard right when Eruzione cut him off and blasted one into the net. Dryden is on the cover of this week's issue of SI and Eruzione talks about what kind of man the former Montreal star was and how their paths have crossed over the years. But on this night, it was Dryden in the booth, and Eruzione on the ice. And that's where miracles happen. Now, almost 45 years later, Captain Eruzione recounts that night and that win... how head coach Herb Brooks told the team they would "take it to their f'ing graves" if they didn't beat Finland in the Gold Medal game... how he prepped for the game against Russia like he did most other games in his life, and how the win changed his life forever, but didn't change the man much at all. A wonderful talk about a wonderful night in February of 1980 with the one and only, Mike Eruzione. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Last night we had a high scoring game between the Bengals and Ravens. But once again, the refs were the story of the game. They had two non-calls on the Bengals 2-point conversion which could have won the game for the Bengals. We wondered if the refs are being told not to call penalties late in games. Boomer said the NFL has a major problem. The Bengals loss was good for the Jets, but Gio doesn't think they are winning in Arizona on Sunday. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds from last night's Ravens win over the Bengals. Al Michaels said ‘too many games end this way' when talking about penalties not being called on the 2-pt conversion. Joe Burrow said he's never gotten those calls so he doesn't expect them. Sal was a guest with Chris Russo on the Jimmy Traina podcast and Russo wants the money owed him by Sal and Gio. Gio told us the real story about the money he owed Russo's bookie. Boomer was on the Fox News Weather Update podcast. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the Giants missing out on Jayden Daniels because they won too many meaningless games at the end of the season. Worst case scenario would be they do the same thing this year. Boomer thinks they're going to ‘beat the pulp out of the Panthers'.

Worst case scenario would be they do the same thing this year. Boomer thinks they're going to ‘beat the pulp out of the Panthers'. Hour 2 We started somehow talking about what the different generations are called. Gio is a Millennial but he thinks he's something in between GenX and Millenial and is feeling marginalized. We also talked about the Keith McPherson vs Shaun Morash feud situation. Then we talked about Gio's feud with Mike Fancesa when it made the back page of the NY Post 6 years ago. Jerry returns for an update. He's doing the Niners/Bucs game on the radio for Compass Media and it's a Tom Brady game. Maybe Jerry will get to meet him since he's friends with Kevin Burkhardt. Jerry has all the sounds from the Ravens beating the Bengals in a shootout. There were two missed calls on the Bengals unsuccessful 2-pt attempt. Dexter Lawrence talked about the business trip to Germany. In the final segment of the hour, we took a l ook at the AFC playoff picture as we stand right now. We talked more about the NFL refs inserting themselves in the outcome of last night's Bengals/Ravens game. Hour 3 Our big announcement this morning is that Jose Iglesias will be with us at B&G Live at the Paramount, singing his hit song, ‘OMG”. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Ravens beating the Bengals. The Giants are headed to Germany to play the Panthers and Daniel Jones is excited. James Jones of FS1 gives a ‘my bad' to Dak Prescott now that his hamstring is torn off the bone. The Breakfast Ball on FS1 suggests a penalty box in the NFL. In the final segment of the hour, Gio wonders if we should have zero Juan Soto discussions until he signs. Boomer said no, because it's the biggest story in the baseball offseason. We already have Juan Soto fatigue. We have put a moratorium on Juan Soto talk until he actually signs somewhere. All of the shows on WFAN are talking non-stop about him. Boomer & Gio's high schools are playing each other again today. Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first we talked about the AOL voice guy passing away. ‘You've Got Mail'. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Ravens beating the Bengals on TNF. The refs missed 2 calls on the 2-pt conversion attempt and Joe Burrow said he never gets those calls so he doesn't expect them. The Giants will be in Germany on Sunday and Malik Nabers is excited to go to another country. Christian McCaffrey will make his debut on Sunday against the Bucs. The Moment of The Day: Chris Russo references ‘Smokey Daniels' when discussing Trump. In the final segment of the week, our NFL picks.

The Jets got themselves a win in prime time. Garrett Wilson made an unbelievable catch but Boomer can't figure out how that was reversed and called a TD. Aaron Rodgers even found Davante Adams a few times including a TD. The first half of this game was very boring. Jets WR Corley had an easy TD but let go of the ball before crossing the goal line as some sort of celebration. So it was a touchback instead of a TD. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of Ian Eagle as the Jets beat the Texans. Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit channeled Phil Simms' ‘oh my gosh' after the great catch. Wilson didn't think he was in bounds at the time. The Jets sacked CJ Stroud 8 times. Anthony Richard talked about being benched for Joe Flacco. In the final segment of the hour, Gio may have a double secret leech spot. Both Joe Benigno and Big Zoo were at the Winters Bros Jets tailgate party.

Anthony Richard talked about being benched for Joe Flacco. In the final segment of the hour, Gio may have a double secret leech spot. Both Joe Benigno and Big Zoo were at the Winters Bros Jets tailgate party. Hour 2 Eleven teams have already reached out to Juan Soto and we tried to figure out which teams they were. We also found out that Big Zoo took his girlfriend to the Jets tailgate and he has tickets to take her to Wicked. We wonder if he will show up to Broadway with a Knicks jersey on and his hairy armpits out. The cayenne pepper water must have worked in the second half last night for Aaron Rodgers. Jerry returns for an update but first Boomer makes him eat a piece of pie. Bill Belichick and his girlfriend dressed up for Halloween. Bill as a fisherman and his girlfriend as a mermaid. A caller tried to give Jerry hot sauce for B&G but said Jerry refused it. Jerry has the sound from Jets radio as Aaron Rodgers hooked up with Davante Adams for a TD. Shannon Sharpe, Ochocinco and JR Smith talked about Halloween candy. Evan Roberts accidentally said ‘Reese's penis-butter cup'. In the final segment of the hour, Gio gave out hundreds of candy bars yesterday. Boomer said Gio is living the American Dream out there. Gio doesn't like when teenagers show no creativity with their costumes. Hour 3 We played audio of Joe Kelly from the Dodgers after the game, saying that after they put Fat Joe on the board they knew they were winning. Then the Yankees ‘started kicking the ball all over the place'. KFC from Barstool calls in to revel in the Yankees losing the World Series. He said he might stop rooting against the Yankees because it's not fun anymore because they always lose in the end. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Ian Eagle as Garrett Wilson scored his first TD of the night. Jeff Ulbrich talked about getting his first win as head coach. Jerry accidentally said ‘early season sex' instead of ‘early season success' in regards to the Washington Commanders. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer's East Islip is playing Gio's Bellport in high school football. Hour 4 The Jets are clearly not winning the AFC East, but Boomer still thinks they can battle for a Wild Card spot. Gio isn't interested in talking about that until they get back to .500. We talked about the terrible pass defense of the Ravens and how when they get going to the playoffs they are going to have to score 40 points a game. Boomer still sounds confused as to why the Garrett Wilson catch was overturned and called a TD. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds from Ian Eagle as Garrett Wilson made an incredible catch and somehow stayed inbounds. It is driving Gio crazy. Aaron Rodgers talked about the win and is happy to be 3-6 instead of 2-7. The Jets defense sacked CJ Stroud 8 times. Anthony Richards talked about getting benched for Joe Flacco in Indianapolis. Joe Kelly of the Dodgers was excited when they put Fat Joe on the video screen. He knew they would come back and win after that. Moment of The Day was a live one, Gio doing the Eddie voice when discussing the Garrett Wilson catch. In the final segment of the week, our NFL picks.
