He also shares stories of the 1989 team that made the playoffs and had fans optimistic about a World Series run. Dawson shares his memories of the 2016 World Series and what made him so superstitious during Game 7.The 21-year big leaguer also talked Ryne Sandberg, what it was like playing for Don Zimmer, the one major league game he had the chance to manage and much more.

1978 Game AL East Playoff Monday October 2nd, 1978 @ Fenway Park Boston, MA After 162 games played, the bitter rivals of the northeast find themselves deadlocked for the division crown, each sporting identical 99-63 records. The entire season comes down to just one game at Fenway Park, and it's gonna be a great one. It looked like it was going to be a banner year for the Red Sox, with Jim Rice playing like an MVP, Dennis Eckersley winning 20 games, and a whole host of spectacular performances. But like the previous season, the division lead began slipping away. They were up 14 games on the Yankees in mid-July, but that was cut to just 7 games by the end of August. And after a four game sweep dubbed “The Boston Massacre” in early September, the Yankees had caught the Sox.  The downward spiral continued in Beantown, but a furious rally of eight straight wins to close the season has forced a playoff against the Yanks. Having been forced to use their best starters (Eckersley and Luis Tiant), manager Don Zimmer will turn to an experienced, post-season tested veteran, Mike Torrez (16 - 12 3.92 ERA 243 IP). The big righty was instrumental for New York's World Series run in 1977, but he has scuffled in the stretch run, losing 6 of his last 7 decisions. They'll need him to recapture his form if they hope to advance to the ALCS. The 1977 season was tumultuous for the New York Yankees, but it culminated in a World Series and a return of nearly everyone who contributed to that greatness. But a second go-round for this group was filled with turmoil once again, as the Yankees struggled out of the gate. This time, there was too much trouble on and off the field, and it cost Billy Martin his job. They were just 52 - 42 with Martin at the helm, but once again caught fire (47 - 20) in the second half under Bob Lemon's stewardship. Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Graig Nettles were excellent once again. Goose Gossage was a new weapon out of the pen, and Catfish Hunter had a great rebound. The story of this season, however, was the ascendance of their young lefty, Ron Guidry. The fireballer ran roughshod through the entire American League (24 - 3 1.72 ERA 267 IP), putting together one of the most dominant modern pitching seasons in baseball history. He will get the ball with the season on the line, and there's no other pitcher in the league you'd rather have. Audio clips from MLB Vault on Youtube - WPIX broadcast with Frank Messer, Phil Rizzuto, and Bill White As always, shout out to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, box scores, background information and much, much more.

The Knicks filed an official protest regarding the controversial foul call on Jalen Brunson. Minko has the call as St. John's lost. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about advertisers live bidding to get their commercials in during overtime of the Super Bowl.  Hour 2 We ran into Kevin Burkhardt and his wife walking into the Super Bowl. We also talked about Tom Brady preparing for next season by working with Kevin during this offseason. Gio wonders if Greg Olsen will get jealous seeing Kevin on a yacht with Tom Brady. A hungover Jon Feliciano of the Niners blamed his teammate for a missed block in the Super Bowl. Then, Feliciano and Jalen Carter of the Eagles accused each other of death taunts. Some say he had the runs and couldn't come in. The afternoon show is doing ARod day and the promo the station is running has some really bad acting by Evan and Morash. Jerry returns for an update and has sound from Shaq getting his jersey retired by the Orlando Magic. Former NBA player Matt Barnes got into it with a student broadcaster at a basketball game. In the final segment of the hour, Burger King Twitter goes savage on a complaining customer. Hour 4 Boomer talked about all the endorsement deals Patrick Mahomes has. We also talked more about Travis Kelce going off on Andy Reid on the sideline of the Super Bowl. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio is getting defense texts from Chris McMonigle saying he is ‘all in'. Jerry has calls from the Super Bowl from ‘feeds' we didn't know existed. Ian Eagle was on the call for the ‘World Feed' and Noah Eagle was on Nickelodeon. Jerry also had NFL Films audio where the Niners were calling Mahomes a ‘regular quarterback' when things were going well for them early in the game. The Moment of The Day involves Mark Chernoff making us share hotel rooms on snow days. In the final segment of the show, Boomer wonders why the afternoon show is having an ‘A-Rod Day'.

He then turned to America to turn pro, first playing for the New York Cubans in the Negro Leagues in 1950 and in the Dominican Republic during the summer of 1951, he will finally debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers August 22, 1952.He was a good hitter with a keen eye, not quite a regular he did play in over 100 games in both 1955 & 1956 & 1957 and posted a 902 OPS in 1956. He hit a career high in hrs in 1956, 16 and from 1954-1957 in Brooklyn he had some nice spilts including a 369 career OBP. LA wasn't as kind to Sandy. The defining moment of Amorós' career with the Brooklyn Dodgers was one of the memorable events in World Series history. It was the sixth inning of the decisive Game 7 of the 1955 World Series. The Dodgers had never won a World Series and were now trying to hold a 2–0 lead against their perennial rivals, the New York Yankees. The left-handed Amorós came into the game that inning as a defensive replacement, as the right-handed throwing Jim Gilliam moved from left field to second base in place of Don Zimmer. The first two batters in the inning reached base and Yogi Berra came to the plate. Berra, notorious for swinging at pitches outside the strike zone, hit an opposite-field shot toward the left field corner that looked to be a sure double, as the Brooklyn outfield had just shifted to the right. Amorós seemingly came out of nowhere, extended his gloved right hand to catch the ball and immediately skidded to a halt to avoid crashing into the fence near Yankee Stadium's 301 distance marker in the left field corner. He then threw to the relay man, shortstop Pee Wee Reese, who in turn threw to first baseman Gil Hodges, doubling Gil McDougald off first; Hank Bauer grounded out to end the inning.According to winning pitcher Johnny Podres: “As great a catch as Amoros made, his relay to Pee Wee [Reese] (to double up Gil McDougald) was even better.” When a reporter asked Amoros if he thought he would make the catch, he said, “I dunno. I just run like hell.”

January 30, 1930 Sandy Amoros is born in Matanzas, CubaAt 20 he made the 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games, Amorós led Cuba to a Gold Medal with 6 home runs in 7 games. There have been 1,193 players who have appeared for the Mets, according to Baseball Reference as of this morning, but only 1,187 names for players in Mets history. Yesterday, Bobby Jones — an entirely different Bobby Jones than either of the Mets' Bobbys Jones, and the golfer Bobby Jones, and not the Hall of Famer from the 76ers Bobby Jones either, that was the point — came up on Twitter thanks to my old Sporting News colleague Adi Joseph. It got me thinking… how many times have the Mets had that happen, the double Bobby Jones thing? So, I went to the list of all-time Mets names and found the repeaters. Let's take a look at these six pairs and declare the definitive Met for each name.Sandy Alomar was traded from Atlanta to Houston around the start of spring training in 1967, then traded by the Astros to the Mets for Derrell Griffith at the start of spring training. At the age of 23, Alomar went 0-for-22 as a Met, and got traded to the White Sox in August of 1967 as the player to be named later in the Bill Southworth trade (the Mets also gave up Ken Boyer). Alomar was more significantly with the Yankees, playing three seasons in the Bronx, but mostly a California Angel. Anyway, here are the lowest OPS figures for players with at least 4,000 plate appearances in the live ball era:Doug Flynn (1975-85): .560Alomar (1964-78): .578Tommy Thevenow (1924-38): .579Mark Belanger (1965-82): .580Ed Brinkman (1961-75): .580In 2007, Sandy Alomar Jr. joined his old man in accumulating 22 at-bats as a Met. In the last eight games of a career that deserved better than 2.8% of the Hall of Fame ballot and going off the ballot in his first year, Alomar collected three hits: two singles and a double. The Mets' third base coach at the time? Of course it was Sandy Alomar Sr., the definitive Met Sandy Alomar because of that coaching stint. On May 10, 1967, with their original Sandy Alomar in the fold, the Mets purchased the contract of Bob Johnson from the Orioles. Playing all over the infield, but mostly second base, Johnson acquitted himself nicely in his first taste of National League ball, hitting .348/.377/.474 with five homers — the best hitting of his career, really. After the season, the Mets traded Johnson to the Reds for Art Shamsky, who became part of the 1969 championship team alongside Bob Johnson, a lefty pitcher. This Bob Johnson pitched two games for the Mets, and retired five of the seven batters he faced for a World Series-winning team (two quick outs to mop up against the Pirates on September 19, and a 12th-inning save at Wrigley Field on October 1). Johnson did pitch in the World Series against the Orioles, but not in 1969. He did that in 1971 with the Pirates, having been traded from New York to Kansas City (along with Amos Otis, oops) after the 1969 season for Joe Foy. The original Bob Johnson has a greater claim to the Mets' throne of Bobs Johnson.Bobby Jones, we don't even really need to go deep on. He and Bobby Jones were teammates on the 2000 Mets, and whether you differentiated them as Bobby J. and Bobby M., righty and lefty, starter and reliever, or white and Black, there was never any question that the main Bobby Jones was the 1997 All-Star and former first-round pick — not the journeyman.Mike Marshall is best known as a Dodger, either for winning the 1974 Cy Young Award or for his three-run homer that broke open Game 2 of the 1988 World Series, depending whether you decide to talk about him or Mike Marshall. In Mets history, neither is particularly significant. The pitching Marshall signed with the Mets in August of 1981, posted a 2.61 ERA in 20 appearances, and called it a career. On December 20, 1989, the Mets traded Juan Samuel to Los Angeles for the slugger Marshall and Alejandro Peña… Marshall was traded to Boston that July after hitting .239/.278/.411 with six homers in 53 games. Once again, can't beat the original.Bob Miller was a lefty who went 2-2 with a 7.08 ERA for the 1962 Mets (hey, that's 5% of their wins!) after coming over from Cincinnati in May of the teams's first season, along with Don Zimmer. Righty Bob Miller likewise ended his career with the Mets, joining the club near the end of the 1973 season after having his contract purchased from the Tigers, then sticking around through 1974. Neither is that exciting, go once again with the original for the Zimmer connection.Last but not least, we've got Chris Young and Chris Young, and anyone who remembers the outfielder's doomed stint in Flushing in 2014 knows that it's the pitcher, here in 2011 and 2012, who is the ulti-Met CY. Tim recalls Don Zimmer's wisdom, Earl Weaver's unforgettable greeting, and Cal Ripken Jr.'s ferocious competitiveness even off the field.. He puts us there for a Game 7 that Jack Morris wouldn't leave, and a Game 7 when the Cubs broke a curse. We hear about Tony Gwynn's favorite bat, an odd request from Mickey Rivers, and a shared fascination for the APBA board game. There's a memorable moment with Johnny Bench sitting lakeside in Cooperstown. And, yes, that sausage mascot race . . . Yikes. Kurkjian was named the 2022 Baseball Writers' Association of America's Career Excellence Award winner (formerly the J.G. Taylor Spink award), presented annually to a writer “for meritorious contributions to baseball writing.” He was recognized at Baseball Hall of Fame ceremonies in July of '22. Tim has been a senior writer for ESPN.com and a baseball writer, analyst, host and reporter for ESPN TV since 1998. He has served as an analyst for “Monday Night Baseball” and “Wednesday Night Baseball.” Tim earned an Emmy Award in 2002 for his work on “Baseball Tonight,” and he was honored with a second Emmy for his contributions to “SportsCenter” in 2003-04. Tim was one of the first sportswriters to appear on TV as an analyst. He spent the first half of his career at newspapers and at Sports Illustrated, where he was a baseball senior writer for nine seasons (1998-97). He also worked as an on-air reporter for CNN-SI in his final two years at the magazine. His journalism career began at The Washington Star in 1978. He then worked briefly for the Baltimore News American in 1981 before joining the The Dallas Morning News to cover the Texas Rangers as a beat reporter beginning in the 1982 season. Tim moved to The Baltimore Sun in 1986 and covered the Baltimore Orioles as a beat writer through the 1989 season. Legends of Sportsball

Mario Melvin Soto was born July 12th, 1956, in Baní, Dominican Republic. Though very little is known about his upbringing, Mario was known for his fiery temper from an early age. The Cincinnati Reds would go on to sign Mario at the age of 16, citing that the youngster had a solid, hard fastball in the mid-to-low 90’s and a mind-baffling circle change-up. While developing in the minor leagues, Soto would learn a slider and a curveball, but he would rarely use those pitches until much later in his career.

FAR 135 Expected Air Date: 03/26/18 Opening David Kraus has bought over 40 properties for no money down and no credit check. He has accomplished this by using a combination of Land Trust, Wraparound Mortgages, Lease Options and Contract for Deeds. The favorite tool in his arsenal are land trust and his story on how he started using land trust is one to hear. With an investor, David went out and found a very discounted deal in Joliet, Illinois. It was a two unit in need of cosmetic repairs for only $28,000. Once the property was closed it only took 10 days to do the entire rehab. An appraiser then went out and it appraised for $75,000. Running an ad in the paper, a nice couple wanted to purchase the property and put in a contract for $71,000. The bank they were using gathered all the paperwork and the banks appraiser appraised the property for $71,000, the agreed upon asking price. Then the deal started to self destruct. When the lender pulled title and saw the property originally sold less than a month before for only $28,000, they said it was a scam. After presenting the bank with all the paperwork from the rehab, the bank still wouldn't make the loan. Instead they said they wanted the property to season for a year before they would make a loan. So while David and the investor were stuck holding the property, David went out and sought ways to avoid this problem in the future. When he came across land trust it seemed like it could be used to solve the problem but unfortantly there was little information available. So he did the next best thing and took the Vice President of Northern Trust to lunch and picked her brain. The result of lunch and a few more phone calls; the land trust flip was created. Not only could he flip the property but over time David developed ways to eliminate down payments, flip deals without owning them and acquire properties with no money out of his pocket. He is now expanding his investment business by implementing national marketing for both discounted properties and investors using the same techniques he has used for years. I’m a new investor and excited to get started.” Sandy from McDonough, GA “Would you rather buy one flip where you could make $30,000 or two rentals where you could make $800 per month together?” Kimberly, West Miffin, PA “We have a rental house that will come vacant at the end of March. We are thinking of selling it. Should we wait to list it in June or go ahead and list it? We are thinking in might sell for more during the peak buying season.” Frieda, Ocala, FL, “Thanks for the show about mobile home parks. We live in one and love it. We retired to Florida to enjoy doing things with our friends, not take care of a house and yard. This is perfect for us and for everyone in our community. We are saddened to hear that cities and towns are no longer allowing new mobile home communities. Given the need for affordable housing in our nation right now, you’d think that lawmakers would be open to a wider range of possibilities. Stanley and I were able to sell our home, buy our current place with cash, invest the difference safely and lead comfortable lives doing what we want to do. I hope you’ll share this letter with your listeners and encourage leaders to allow more new mobile home communities across the country.” Jason, Harrisburg, PA, “is there one best source for deal flow? If there is, what is it?”
