The Sox got a big series win over the Guardians. Is this a turning point for the team or are we going to be fooled again? Also what is going on with Bello?
Hour 4 - The crew are not fooled by the Red Sox series win over the Guardians. Should the Sox attempt to sell high on Jarren Duran, why can't Bello start games and Hill Notes!
Jordan, Brian, and Jack recap a series win in Cleveland for the Boston Red Sox. The team can't seem to figure out the opener for Brayan Bello outings, which is beginning to rear its ugly head. However, the offense is waking up, particularly from outfielder Jarren Duran and infielders Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Caleb Durbin. Even though Steven Kwan missed this series for the Guardians, the Red Sox still took two of three from a first-place team, leaving them two games over .500 on the road. If they ever can figure out how to win at Fenway Park, they might be able to right the ship in 2026.Make sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram, @ThePeskyReport. On the latest episode of Past Our Prime, we dive into one of the most memorable moments in baseball history — the May 31, 1976 cover of Sports Illustrated that captured a dramatic home plate confrontation between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. The cover photograph, shot by Neil Leifer, showed Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk (#27) making a tag out on Yankees outfielder Lou Piniella (#14), with home plate umpire Terry Cooney visible in the frame. Piniella was ruled out at home, but the collision sparked a bench-clearing brawl, and the cover's headline captured the rivalry perfectly: "Head-On Collision in the East — Speeding Yanks Run Into the Sputtering Red Sox." The brawl turned ugly when Yankees third baseman Graig Nettles and Boston pitcher Bill Lee fought so fiercely that Lee suffered a separation of his left shoulder, significantly affecting the rest of his pitching career. It remains one of the most iconic covers in the magazine's history, perfectly encapsulating the fierce and often physical rivalry between the two American League East rivals. Steve "Psycho" Lyons carved out a nine-year MLB career with the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox — where he was a teammate of Carlton Fisk — the Atlanta Braves, and Montreal Expos. He earned his nickname through antics like playing tic-tac-toe in the infield dirt and famously pulling his pants down after sliding into first base — a blooper reel staple for years. After retiring, Lyons became a three-time Emmy Award-winning broadcaster for Fox Sports, where he worked alongside Lou Piniella, before later joining NESN as a Red Sox studio analyst — proving, as he once said, that he talked about the game better than he played it. Lyons gives us incredible insight into Fisk, the Hall of Fame catcher, and reveals that for some reason, the serious Fisk would let the younger Lyons give him the business. He recounts how Fisk told Deion Sanders to run out a popup — leading to yet another bench-clearing incident — and how Fisk, as captain of the White Sox, was the hardest worker in the clubhouse. Lyons also takes us inside that iconic cover shot of Fisk and Piniella colliding at the plate and the brawl that followed, and reflects on how the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry back then was a whole different animal compared to today. And he tells us how he wishes he'd had the opportunity to play for Piniella, who brought that same fire to the game that Lyons himself always did — and yes, he sets the record straight on how he really got the nickname "Psycho," and no, it had nothing to do with dropping his pants in the middle of a game. If you enjoyed this episode, please download, review, and subscribe to Past Our Prime — and help spread the word to every baseball fan who loves the game the way it used to be played. Take 10 with Tim – May 29, 2026 @ 9:15 am1.David Sandlin and Gage Jump made their MLB debut this week.a.Sandlin (RHP, CHW) – 6.0 IP, 1 hit, 1 ER, 4K/0BB; FB: 97.7 mph (T 99.3), CB: 29% whiff rateb.Gage Jump (LHP, ATH) – 5.0 IP, 9 hits, 4 ER, 5K/1BB; FB: 95.9 mph (T 97.9); SL 45% whiff rate; sweeper 33% whiff ratec.Jump is the more heralded as the Red Sox had moved Sandlin to the bullpen, but after the trade to the White Sox and moving back to the rotation, and had him throw his curveball more, he's been better. Jump of course pitches half his games in Sacramentod.Who will you make the larger bid this weekend?2.Teoscar Hernandez pulls a hammy and will be lost for a few weeks. Tommy Edman is due back soon, and then there's Alek Thomas or Ryan Ward. I'm guessing you're not too interested, given the situation, or are you?a.I'm assuming when Tommy Edman is ready to return, he'll be the Dodgers' second baseman. Is that how you see it?b.I got an interesting text from a Patreon member discussing all the potential bad contracts looming for the Dodgers. Let's look at their roster and see if we can figure out what they will do in a few years.i.Los Angeles Dodgers 2026 Financial Summaryii. Here's how I responded:1.Question: We hold up the Dodgers as the exemplar org in baseball, but many of their big contracts are going to start looking very bad, as soon as next year. Is it possible that their model actually turns sour? 2.My Response: “I think that's been their strategy. Play for today and worry about tomorrow some other day. Remember, they also have a bunch of deferred money kicking in with Ohtani, etc. one thought is as they deal with the bad contracts, they promote all their young kids as cheap alternatives as the Mookies of the world become backup players. So cheap everyday players and expensive backups. Besides Betts and Smith, freeman, Tucker, Teoscar all are done in three more years. The strategy might work. I will say that Smith's contract looks the worse but he's also the most reasonable. They might have to buy him out. Mookie should be ok for next 2 years and then, his will really look ugly”3.Tatsuya Imai was involved in a no-hitter this week. He danced around four walks over six innings and then turned it over to the bullpen. It wasn't pretty, but he's in the history books.a.I'm assuming you are still concerned?b.How should I view him moving forward?4.Let's take a look at the standings5.Top Ranked Fantasy Players according to Fantrax. Story of the Week (DR):BP ousts chair over ‘serious' governance, oversight concerns MMThe board said the decision was unanimous. In a statement, Amanda Blanc, BP's senior independent director, described the board as having been caught off guard by what it found: "The board has been surprised and disappointed to learn of governance oversight and conduct issues it deems unacceptable and has taken decisive action."The oil giant's board removed Albert Manifold from his roles as chair and director this week, effective immediately. He faced a contingent of investor opposition at BP's recent annual meeting.Internal leaks and a whistleblower report point to a pattern of "aggressive," "verbally abusive," and "bullying" behavior toward multiple colleagues, alongside accusations of withholding info from the board and leaking privileged data.Ousted BP Chair Hits Back at ‘Lies' About His ConductThe boardroom turmoil at BP deepened after its ousted chair, Albert Manifold, claimed allegations about his conduct were “lies”.In a new and lengthy statement, Manifold disputed reports about his conduct, saying: “At no point in my tenure as chairman of BP has anyone raised with me any issue about my conduct or my relationship with my colleagues.”He also described media reports that he wanted to exert control of the FTSE 100 company like an executive chair as “nonsense”. Manifold said he had “many other commitments” and had only spent 13 days in BP's London office so far this year.“What I do not accept is that lies can be told about me, nor that anyone should be allowed to hide behind anonymity when commenting on my time at BP.”Manifold conceded he may have “pushed hard and challenged people directly” amid his “determination to drive change on costs, performance, the balance sheet and shareholder communications”.However, he disputed reports from the company about his behaviour, adding: “There is a considerable distance between driving an organisation with urgency and the characterisation of my conduct that is now being put about.”He said such “accusations” had not been previously made about his behaviour during his 40-year career. He added that he “called out … unnecessary or excessive expenditure” but felt not everyone shared his priorities.Manifold said he turned down many of the benefits traditionally enjoyed by top executives, which he called a “culture of entitlement”, including chauffeur-driven cars, being flown by private jet or taking advantage of corporate hospitality: “I had no interest in having a dedicated chauffeur-driven limousine at my beck and call on the occasions that I was in London. I, like most people, walked, took taxis, trains, etc. I had no interest in taking private aviation nor in availing myself of corporate tickets for sports events. I made my own coffee, bought my lunch in the local cafe. I sat in a small office, eschewing the grand corner-office privilege of previous chairmen.”Ian Tyler has been named interim chair, BP said, with the board set to begin a formal process to identify a permanent successor: "The Board and leadership team have deep conviction in the strategic direction we have laid out, and the company is moving at pace to deliver it."This marks BP's fourth abrupt top-tier departure in three years, following the rapid exits of previous chair Helge Lund and chief executives Bernard Looney and Murray Auchincloss.BoardIan Tyler Interim Chair 2025Meg O'Neill CEO 2026Kate Thomson CFO 2024 (Interim in 2023)Dame Amanda Blanc Senior Independent Director 2022Dave Hager 2025Tushar Morzaria 2020Hina Nagarajan 2023Satish Pai 2023Dr. Johannes Teyssen 2021Manifold took up the chairmanship just last October. They also talked about the good offensive month that Rafalea has had, as well as positive movement from Duran recently.
