Taj Pabari started his first business when he was only 11 years old. A tech blog for kids amassing an audience of 50,000 views per day. After that business was sold, Taj started the company he is still building today, Fiftysix Creations. Taj launched Fiftysix creations amongst a mediastorm, being featured everywhere from National Geographic to Sunrise with Kochie.“Within six months we were on the front page of pretty much all media outlets from News Corp, to National Geographic, to ABC, 60 Minutes did a half an hour profile of us during prime time on a Sunday night with Liz Hayes, Koch put us on Sunrise, we were on the Today Show with Karl. We literally had every media outlet in Australia jump on, and we sold a lot of devices.” -Taj Pabari

In this episode, Taj and I discuss some very important topics aligning with Education, Entrepreneurship and 21st Century Learning skills. We explore the importance of STEM subjects, the current education system in Australia, in comparison to a global scale as well as discussing the options available for the future of the Australian education system.
Taj Pabari is eighteen-years-old and just finished high school, yet his passion for young people, business and entrepreneurship has led him to a level of influence well beyond his year. He is the Founder & CEO of Fiftysix Creations, Australasia’s largest Entrepreneurship School Workshop Provider. Taj joins me on today’s episode to talk all things life and entrepreneurship, showing the wisdom of a 40-year-old man and sharing his vision for the future. Taj admits that he never liked school work. He wasn’t interested in the traditional pathway that school had to offer. Instead, he experimented with technology and spent most of his time looking forward to activities outside of school. Taj’s exposure to technology at a very young age led him to start his own blog at the age of 11. Just 3 years later, at the age of 14, Taj founded Fiftysix Creations, with the mission to educate 100,000 Australian students about business and entrepreneurship by 2020. Taj created his business on the back of his belief that children need to have an alternate way of learning. He recognised that as we enter the workforce of the future, the skills that will be useful are soft skills and people skills. Today, we're privileged to have him share it all with us on the podcast. What You Will Discover in This Episode: How Taj went from being a tech blogger to a startup entrepreneur. The process behind the Fiftysix DIY tablet kit. How Taj balances being the CEO of his company and a high school student. Taj on the importance of preparing our children for the jobs of the future. The one skill that will never be replaced by machines. The driving factor behind Taj wanting to help kids find their inner entrepreneurial mindset. Taj Pabari is a 17-year-old high school student attending Brisbane’s John Paul College who has absolutely no aspiration study at university. But he’s also chief executive of his own tech start-up, Fiftysix Creations, and spends his free time between tennis, martial arts, and travelling. And in today’s Australia, when more young people than ever before have enrolled at university, Pabari said more effort needs to go into helping them decide whether or not higher education is really for them. This begins with reforming the role of careers advisors and school counsellors, he said. “Wouldn’t it be great if [school] counsellors asked: ‘what are your passions, your hopes for the future, what do you love doing?” Pabari told a roundtable hosted by multinational education publisher Pearson. “At the moment, any career advice tends to be based solely on job prospects. The whole idea of [school] counselling needs to be redefined and expanded.” Pearson recently sponsored the No Mind Left Behind report from the McKell Institute. Among the recommendations was reforming school career-guidance services and more collaboration between industry and university. David Barnett, managing director of Pearson Asia-Pacific, said Pabari’s story should be a wake-up call for universities.
