Ritchie Nkana is a Chartered Accountant turned Peak Performance Architect. He spent over 20 years in banking, quietly burning out as the classic “chubby banker”... successful on paper, exhausted in real life. A few health scares and some honest conversations at home forced Ritchie to rebuild his operating system from the inside out. Along the way Ritchie became a Personal Trainer, sports nutritionist, metabolic conditioning coach and pain-free performance specialist. But what changed his life wasn't just muscle, it was systems. Those systems evolved into The Operator's Edge™: a set of frameworks that help performance-minded leaders win across four pillars – health, enterprise, relationships and legacy, without burning out. Today Ritchie works with founders, executives and professionals who want full-spectrum success, not just a bigger job title.Contact Richie Nkana:www.RitchieNkana.ComX: https://x.com/RitchieNkanaDr. Kimberley LinertSpeaker, Author, Broadcaster, Mentor, Trainer, Behavioral OptometristEvent Planners- I am available to speak at your event. I give much devotion to how we perceive reality, our emotions, and our identity. I find it is now what we perceive, but how we perceive that makes the difference in our life satisfaction. In this episode I sat down with business mentor, Michael Hyatt. I've known Michael for many years, he and my father were close friends and Michael flew down with Dave Ramsey to spend time with my Dad in his last days here on earth. I was grateful to be with them all that day. Michael truly has become a mentor to so many of the influential people I know in the business and self-improvement space and he is known for his tremendous discernment and insight into the root issues of success. I've had Michael on this podcast four or five times and this time we discussed the message in his book, Mind Your Mindset: The Science That Shows Success Starts with Your Thinking. We discuss the predominant cultural concepts on reality, and how much of what we want to claim is objective reality is not. It's what we believe to be true and generally influenced by what we want to be true, but it's not. The point is not to prove your reality wrong but to help us all be more mature and constructive with what we perceive…or think we perceive. And to also better understand other people in their own efforts to cope with their own perceptions.  Sign up for your $1/month trial period at shopify.com/kevin Go to shipstation.com and use code KEVIN to start your free trial. THE MAGAZINE OF THE MONTH CLUB — One of the things I've learned while hosting this podcast is that there are a lot of magazines out there. More than I imagined. Meaning there was never a “death of the magazine,” simply a realignment of dollars and attention. If anything, there are more magazines being published than ever.  But, and it's a big but, they are harder and harder to find. There are fewer magazine stores. There are almost no newsstands, at least in North America. And bookstores, well, ok, go to your local bookstore and good luck. Which brings us to Steve Watson. He worked in the industry and he lived what was happening to it. And so he created Stack which is, essentially, a discovery system. Or a club. Call it The Magazine of the Month Club. Join it and you receive random independent magazines from around the world, chosen by Steve—or curated, let's use the word—curated by Steve, and if you like the magazine, great, go out and subscribe to it, and you've just expanded your world.  I asked Steve about the changes in the industry, how he builds community and what the future of magazines might be. He's an optimist. And that makes me feel good about things. — This episode is made possible by our friends at Freeport Press. A production of Magazeum LLC ©2021–2025

AI Can Grade the Transcript—Humans Grow the Coach with Doug Foltz

Doug Foltz explains how he used AI to solve a real coach-development bottleneck: mentor coaching doesn't scale. By building a competency rubric and an AI "agent" that evaluates coaching transcripts, Doug's team reduced hours of expert analysis to minutes—then re-centered the human work where it matters most: reflection, agency, and a short mentor-coaching conversation. The bigger idea: "communal co-intelligence"—AI not just as a personal assistant, but as a tool that helps a whole coaching community preserve culture, build consistency, and scale development without losing what makes coaching human. Episode description How do you scale mentor coaching when you don't have the budget—or the hours? Doug Foltz (Content Engineering & Value Alignment Lead at Gloo, DMin candidate at Asbury, and longtime church-planting coach) shares how he built an AI-supported mentor-coaching loop: a detailed competency rubric + an AI evaluator that reviews transcripts in minutes. But Doug also warns about a hidden danger: AI can bypass reflection, which is essential for adult learning. So they intentionally added "friction" back into the process—reflection first, then AI feedback, then a short human coaching conversation. Along the way, Doug introduces a powerful concept: communal co-intelligence—AI that strengthens a community's shared language, values, and coaching culture. Key moments (timestamps) 0:02–1:20 – Who Doug is + why Brian calls him the "AI guy" 1:49–3:21 – The real problem: coaching training doesn't stick without mentor coaching 3:34–5:06 – Doug's solution: a rubric + AI agent that evaluates transcripts (levels 1–3) 6:44–8:15 – The twist: reflection is essential; AI can accidentally remove it 8:28–9:00 – The human loop: 15–20 minute mentor conversation after reflection + report 10:38–14:35 – Why AI matters: replaces 3–4 hours of expert analysis with minutes 15:04–16:15 – The church's role: protect what's uniquely human; set boundaries 16:27–19:16 – "Communal co-intelligence": AI + a coaching community's culture and standards 21:24–23:00 – What they observed: fast growth from Level 1 → Level 2; harder jump to Level 3 23:29–25:46 – Craft guild model: learn the fundamentals, then innovate without losing the core 28:57–31:14 – What's next: agentic systems, tools + data access, and AI as "work orchestrator" Key ideas AI can scale mentor coaching by doing the transcript evaluation quickly and consistently. Reflection is non-negotiable in adult learning; AI can "steal" it by doing the thinking for you. The solution is intentional friction: reflection → AI feedback → short human mentor coaching. Agency matters: don't make AI the all-knowing guru; keep the learner's authority intact. Communal co-intelligence: AI can reinforce a shared coaching culture across many coaches. Early gains can be rapid (novice → intermediate), but advanced mastery takes longer. The future is agentic systems that combine tools + data + context to orchestrate real work. Quotable lines (pull quotes) "We really can't scale coaching very well." "Mentor coaching is what makes the training stick." "My process actually bypasses [reflection] entirely." "We added a friction point… and we made them reflect." "You don't want the AI to be the all-knowing guru." "That's the part of the process that we said, we're going to replace." (re: 3–4 hours of evaluation) "Communal co-intelligence… it's the AI with our coaching community." "It becomes this orchestrator of work within an organization." Discussion questions (for Learning Lab / staff meeting) Where would AI help us scale without compromising what we value most? What part of our development process must remain human-only? Where might AI accidentally remove reflection, struggle, or ownership? What would a "reflection-first" workflow look like for our coaches or trainers? What are the risks of communal AI (shared culture) becoming static or overly controlling? If AI becomes an "orchestrator of work," what data is off-limits—and why? Practical takeaway AI is best used as a leverage tool—not a replacement for learning. Let it do the heavy lift of analysis and pattern recognition, then spend your human time where it counts: reflection, discernment, presence, and coaching conversations that build ownership and growth. If you design it well, AI doesn't dilute your culture—it can actually help you scale it.

Bishop Donald Hying joins Patrick to discuss Surrender to God What makes surrender so important? (7:27) What is the motivation to spiritual practices? (12:34) John - I've got 2 sons struggling with drugs. Talk to them all the time about it. Not having control and putting it in God's hands. Bonita - My brother is in a nursing home. They're going to put him on hospice. Wondering if he's in the right place. How to navigate making decisions. Can't always meet what we're hoping to have. Hospice and not knowing how to navigate. (18:54) Break 1 What does Saint Therese of Lisieux teach us about surrender to God? (22:55) Marisa - Last year, for Ash Wednesday and Lent, I vowed to give up alcohol. I used it as a crutch rather than surrounding to the Lord. I did the surrender novena, drank that night, but seven nights later, I gave it up and it's been a year of sobriety. (31:01) Stan email – are there any short prayers to say to not despair over past sins? Patrick - I've had some success surrendering to God. I have this sloth. It's tough. Lack of discipline. Need more help from God. (35:19) Break 2 Email from a listener wanting husband getting her husband back to Mass. (39:24) Elanore - I was given my sister's ashes. I'm driving around with them right now. I surrender, but have no direction. I'm looking for sacred ground. Nobody understands the relationship. She died in a nursing home. I need guidance. I believe she was a sacrificial lamb. I hold her in high regard while the rest of my family doesn't agree. Email about surrender when others don’t listen as well (45:42) Marge - I've learned to surrender to Him. I finally realized what the Our Father really means. I've experienced different things. Been praying for granddaughter for years. I have a lot of priest friends I'm in regular contact with. Was told to completely talk to Jesus and lay all in front of the cross. Mentor and confession is important.

Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation ‘Rabbi.’ As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one Teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one Master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. In an 1886 letter to his brother, Anton Chekhov delivered some advice about truthfulness in writing. "Don't invent sufferings you have not experienced," he wrote, "and don't paint pictures you have not seen--for a lie in a story is much more boring than a lie in conversation." In this episode, Jacke talks to editor Bob Blaisdell about the book Chekhov on Writing: the Mentor, the Self-Critic, Literary Questions, and Fictional Writers, which gathers the wisdom and grace of one of literature's most celebrated artists. In this podcast Manda dives deep into the nature of fear, what it is and how we might find our own resources, resilience and capacity to work with the parts that catch our attention.  Given this, it is recommended that you listen at a time and place where you can give it full attention. We believe that we are in a time of total transformation and the potential is enormous - if enough of us can do the work to free up the stuck parts inside so that we can be fully present, fully able to respond to the needs of every moment as it arises.  Nobody is suggesting this is easy work, but it is absolutely the work of this moment. If we can all free up our stuck places so that our connections between all parts of ourselves, ourselves and each other, ourselves and the Web of Life are free and fluid - then we can begin to step into what's ours to do in the moment, rather than rehashing old stories of old hurts - that may not be ours, but may be inherited from the generations that have gone before. We need not to pass them on, but more than that, we need to be able to connect in real time with all that's around us in an ever-changing world.  [For those of you who attended the Gathering Honouring Fear as your Mentor that Manda taught earlier this month, this podcast is designed both to cement the teachings of that Gathering and open them up to our wider group of listeners.]Manda's recommended reading from the Winter Solstice 2025  https://accidentalgods.life/word-magic-2025-accidental-gods-pick-of-fiction-non-fiction-poetry-and-podcasts-through-the-year/Nature and Neuroscience - 'mouse/almond blossom study' https://www.nature.com/articles/nn.3594Scientific American precis of the study https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fearful-memories-passed-down/About Accidental Gods - What we offer.
