Dan Carlin of Hardcore History joins Matt tonight! They talk about the process of mastering podcasting, how to cypher through the mosaic of news out there today, and their common views on politics. They were both right about what Trump would be like, but what they got wrong was how America would respond to him. Is it possible to change large systems like the government? They also discuss flashpoints in history, the future of teachers, and what studying history may look like in the future. A GAME OF THRONES PODCAST THAT HAS BEEN PAYING ATTENTION AS THE NEW SEASON FILMS With Joanna Robinson from Vanity Fair, Dave Gonzales from Geek.com and Neil Miller from Film School Rejects! Welcome to another off season tour episode of A STORM OF SPOILERS! (Sort of?) This week - Joanna has sent Da7e and Neil back to the Citadel of Crazytown to clean up all the raven poop and check the pulse of the currently-in-production seventh season of Game of Thrones. Thanks to eagle-eyed spoiler-fanatics (we love you so!) and consistant updates from our friends at Watchers on the Wall, the two are able to get a basic idea of the shape of Season 7. There will be characters reuniting! There will be Olde Town antics! Everything else is speculation based on production spoilers. We may be months and a long winter out from the new season of Game of Thrones, but that doesn't mean we're not obsessed with it. This week's episode is brought to you by Loot Crate, offering an epic range of pop culture items shipped to you for less than $20 a month. This week Kyle and Matthew welcome comedian Rick Wood to discuss the one and only Canadian power trio: Rush. Rick aptly describes Rush as “blue collar scientists” who mix prog rock mythology with blue collar anthems. Rick talks about the evolution of Rush's back catalog from their early career as hard rockers to the band that the world knows today. In the process, he blows Kyle's mind with some of the lesser-known, cool hard rock songs in their catalog. Besides being a talented comedian, Rick is an accomplished musician. He tracks his evolution as a musician and the impact that Rush had on his early playing. From buying his first guitar from a drunk at a bar, to learning Rush bass lines to spite his Mom's new boyfriend, the rockers of the Great White North taught Rick to be ambitious in his songwriting. Other topics include Rush's dedication to keeping their lineup and stage setup simple, their creative ways of writing synth lines that Geddy Lee could play with his feet, Rush's dedicated fanbase and the once-a-year meeting of the minds that is “RushCon.” Plus, Neil Peart's appearance in the "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie gets some love.
