You know, Shayne sprang this topic on Jay faster than Darth Vader force‑choking an admiral. One minute we're talking Star Wars prequels; the next we're knee‑deep in villains who could ruin your day, your planet, or your sleep schedule. Turns out we've got more favorite villains than we have working brain cells between us. And honestly, that tracks. In this round, we talk about:Darth Vader, the galaxy's top heavy breatherThe Joker and his purple‑suited chaosHannibal Lecter and his questionable dinner menuNorman Bates and the world's worst motelKillmonger, Dr. Evil, and other iconic baddiesRound 316 [Redux of round 34 from July 23, 2020!]~~~~~~~Support the show and unlock bonus shenanigans. Darth Vader. The Joker. Hannibal Lecter. Killmonger. Dr. Evil. Freddie Krueger. The Beer Thursday guys cracked open some whiskey and went full villain bracket.Shayne's picks: Darth Vader tops the list — cool suit, James Earl Jones voice, terrifying hallway scene in Rogue One. The Joker comes in close second — sometimes sinister, sometimes funny, always in purple.Jay's picks: Hannibal Lecter — so smart and charming you almost like him... until you remember the whole eating-people thing. Norman Bates — the original "something is very off about this guy" villain. And Dr. Evil — because sometimes evil just needs a Mini Me and a cat.The real debate: Are the best villains the ones who think they're the hero? Jay says yes. Killmonger had reasons. Darth Vader was pushed to it. Even the Joker had a rough go.They also briefly wondered if Elon Musk is secretly a supervillain and watched a Netflix movie about AI wiping out humanity (casual Tuesday stuff).Spoiler: they ran out of time before they ran out of villains. ¿Nunca has visto Star Wars y no sabes por dónde empezar?
We wrap up the our second (and final) episode on our favorite STAR WARS moments that live rent-free in our brains: Why does Mace Windu flat-out rule? Why is Darth Vader far more badass in ROGUE ONE? Why is Luke at his best when he finally goes apeshit while fighting his dad? All that and why the making of the Death Star trench run is just as fascinating as what's still visualized on-screen! GUESTS: Aaron Harris (Star Wars Reactions Podcast), Cliff & A-aron, Delvin Cox, Geoff Arbuckle (Film Seizure), Charlie Hildebrand, Ryan McGann (Offtopic Podcast), Travis Crawford (TV's Travis), Sam Willing (The Outer Reels), Oreo Brewer, Tom Lindaman, Mike Ensing, Gil Palmer, James Bruno & Josh Hansen VOICE-MAILS: Mike-EL, Dave (The Insanely Dangerous Retro Podshow), Lezlie Sawyer, Natalia McCarty, 0.7 Jarrod Alberich (Action Film Face-Off Podcast), Bart Plaster (TV Shows We Love) & Cam Ray SemiProductions SONGS: "Dance of the Fates (Extended Clean)" by Auralnauts Main Theme from Star Wars/Leia's Nightmare" by Joel McNeely (Shadows of the Empire OST) Bounty Hunter Videogame OST by Jeremy Soule "Star Wars Gangsta Rap" by Jason Brannon & Chris Crawford "Because I'm Jedi" by The Great Luke Ski "Angry Nerds" by Insane Ian & The Great Luke Ski
In 2016, the Oscar race seemed to be hurtling towards "White people get their dream show biz careers but are still sad about it," until a mid-acceptance speech twist handed the top prize to Moonlight, a quiet examination of three key moments in the life of an impoverished gay youth in the ghetto. Claire, Erin, and Dan break it down, and how one of our hosts completely missed the point until rewatching. Then in a complete tone shift, the box office title is split between two Disney properties, as the Rebellion and the Avengers each find themselves at war. Rogue One is Disney-owned Lucasfilm's first attempt at a non-saga Star War, while Captain America: Civil War splits up the Avengers team they'd just introduced a year ago. Which is best, but which is the favourite? Find out!Find all of our episodes and the rest of Writing Therapy Productions' various entertainments at www.writingtherapyproductions.com

This week on the Nerd of Godcast, we're talking about the heroes who gave everything. From The Iron Giant to Boromir, Tony Stark to the crew of Rogue One, we explore the fictional sacrifices that changed stories forever and left lasting legacies behind. We also play a brand-new game, “Famous Last Words,” where the crew tries to identify iconic character deaths from across nerd culture.Along the way, we discuss:• The greatest heroic sacrifices in fandom• Which fictional deaths hit the hardest emotionally• Why some character deaths feel meaningful while others feel manipulative• The heroes whose influence lived on after they were gone• Why sacrifice stories resonate so deeply with usThe conversation ultimately points toward faith, redemption, and the words of Jesus in John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.”Plus:• Summer plans & what we're nerding out about• Transformers: The Movie returning to theaters after 40 years• The Grace of Project Hail Mary#NerdOfGodcast #Transformers #ChristianPodcast #GeekCulture #FaithAndFandom
Six years, five months, and a whole lot of anticipation have finally led to this moment. The Mandalorian and Grogu has officially arrived in theaters, and the Star Wars Escape Pod team is analyzing our first watch. In this episode, we go deep into spoiler territory to explore the critical narrative shift from the small screen to the silver screen, breaking down executive producer Jon Favreau's choices and mapping out where the franchise heads next with future films. Was the plot line too safe? Did the genre clash from "30s gangster beachfront palaces" to sci-fi warfare actually pull it off? We unravel the inclusion of deep-cut characters, weigh the film's legacy against Rogue One and Solo, and look ahead at what to expect from home streaming release later this year. Clear your minds must be; this is the fun breakdown the galaxy has been waiting for. Star Wars is back in theaters! In this Sigma Review, Rick breaks down The Mandalorian & Grogu and why the film feels like a refreshing change for Star Wars. From its smaller standalone story and subtle use of nostalgia, to the stunning worldbuilding of Shakari, the soundtrack's cyberpunk-inspired tones, and the deeper issue of emotionally connecting with masked protagonists, this episode dives into what worked, what didn't, and why Star Wars may actually thrive outside the Skywalker saga. Rick also discusses Sigourney Weaver's role and her legacy as one of sci-fi's most iconic actors, while comparing The Mandalorian & Grogu to projects like Rogue One, Solo, and the original spirit of The Mandalorian series.

Ever since Rogue One, the galaxy far far away has been a bit of a mixed bag. For every Mandalorian, there is a Solo. And for every Ahsoka, there's a Rise Of Skywalker. So when a new animated show featuring everyone's favorite prequel jobber was announced, there was plenty of anticipation, mixed in with a healthy dose of trepidation. Now that we've had a chance to give it a watch, the sentiment seems to be nearly unanimous. With a Rotten Tomatoes score just under 100% and tons of critic and fan accolades, Maul: Shadow Lord is a blatant success. So, now that the educated arbiters of taste and unwashed masses have spoken, we're left to ask… what do the idiots have to say? Well, we're glad you asked, because we're going to break it all down for you in this, episode 246, Maul Or Nothing! FULL VIDEO EPISODES!
James and Paul are back for another episode of Code Clearance Blue, diving headfirst into the finale of More Shadow Lords with full spoilers ahead. Along the way, the conversation somehow detours through pressure washers, foxes disrespecting Gina Carano figures, the strangely addictive world of jet washing simulators, and the rising black market value of obscure Boba Fett toys. The lads also break down the chaos surrounding Star Wars Celebration ticket sales, chat about George Lucas' upcoming museum, speculate on Hayden Christensen's return in Ahsoka Season 2, and dream about finally getting Anthony Daniels to a London convention before time catches up with everyone. There's Andor appreciation, Rogue One nostalgia, South American beer adverts edited seamlessly into Obi-Wan scenes, and a live on-air attempt to organise cinema tickets for The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.Basically: Star Wars, middle age, collectibles, and absolute nonsense. Business as usual.

The Season 1 finale of STAR WARS: MAUL - SHADOW LORD delivered everything we hoped for: emotional betrayals, jaw-dropping visuals, terrifying horror vibes, and the long-awaited confrontation between Maul and Darth Vader. Richard and Sarah break down Chapters 9 and 10, from Dryden Vos and Crimson Dawn connections to Devon's tragic fall toward the dark side, and the MANY deaths along the way. Did Brander Lawson survive? We want your opinion, because Richard and Sarah are split! MAUL - SHADOW LORD composers Kevin, Deana, and Sean Kiner sneak in many musical references to "Duel of the Fates," "Battle of the Heroes," and "Anakin's Dark Deeds," all from the Prequel trilogy. We analyze how each of these callbacks help the overall storytelling of this series. One of the standout elements of the finale is Vader himself. His silent entrance through the misty forest instantly joins the ranks of iconic Vader reveals from A New Hope, Rogue One, and even Splinter of the Mind's Eye. The horror-inspired music, jump scares, and brutal fighting style made Vader feel unstoppable. Meanwhile, Maul manipulated events exactly as planned, allowing Devon's rage over Master Daki's death to push her into becoming his apprentice. The symbolism throughout the finale — broken bridges, collapsing temples, and fractured Jedi ideals — gave the battle emotional weight beyond the lightsaber clashes. We get into all of it! Is this the first Maul vs Vader battle in Star Wars history? While it's their first major onscreen showdown, the two previously dueled in the 2001 comic Star Wars Tales #9. Richard and Sarah explore that deep-cut Expanded Universe story. PODCAST SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. This week's spotlight interview is with Timmy Heague, co-writer of Lost Fantasy #9, and is especially revealing, not just because of the wild hooks (Nazi dinosaurs, bazooka swords, monster hunting), but because of the unique vantage point he brings as both a writer and a longtime comic shop owner. That dual perspective shapes everything, from how he thinks about audience expectations to how stories are built to connect on the shelf. This interview goes far beyond Lost Fantasy #9. Timmy Heague digs into his unlikely path from comic shop owner to working writer, how collaborations with Curt Pires and Franklin Jonas actually function behind the scenes, and why being on the retail front lines gives him a sharper read on what fans want than most creators. You'll also hear about the realities of breaking in, the push and pull of co-writing, and the mentors who helped shape his voice. It's part origin story, part industry insight, and a candid look at how comics really come together. What interested you most about picking up his story at this breaking point? You're working with Eamon Winkle on the Bombshell story. What makes Bombshell a compelling lens into this world, and how does her story complement or contrast Henry's? You're co-writing this issue with Curt Pires and Franklin Jonas, while also contributing to a backup that ties into Fireborn. How did you all divide the storytelling responsibilities, and what did that collaboration look like on the page? You've recently come off co-writing Archie vs. Minor Threats with Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum, which thrives on tonal contrast. Did that experience influence how you approach tone here, especially with the mix of action, sci-fi, and character work? The solicit teases Henry being pulled into a new case while still recovering. How do you balance forward momentum with giving weight to his injuries and trauma? The issue introduces the “Cyber-Ronin,” which is an instantly striking concept. What was the creative spark behind that character, and how does he challenge the world of hunters in a new way? Lost Fantasy blends genres in a big way, from cyberpunk elements to mythic hunting lore. When you're writing in that kind of sandbox, how do you keep the story grounded and emotionally clear? Fun one: if you had to drop Bombshell into another comic universe for a one-shot, where would you send them and why?

Do NOT confuse this title for another Caravan of Courage on the Ewok moon Before he was the martyr of Rogue One, Diego Luna was a desperate thief who accidentally lit the spark of the Rebellion in the 2022 series Andor. Is he better off making Death Star parts in prison with Andy Serkis, or facing the consequences of the Imperial robbery he pulled for chameleon Stellan Skarsgård? And can Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) keep footing the bill while Forest Whitaker, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller follow the money? Join rebels Justin, Arnie, and Stuart for the darker side of Star Wars right now!
In Episode 2 of our Star Wars series, we move beyond rankings and hot takes to explore something deeper: what actually makes Star Wars… Star Wars. From emotional moments that still hit decades later, to the role of the Force, to why some stories resonate and others fall flat, we dig into the storytelling DNA of the galaxy far, far away—and how it extends beyond the films into the Disney Parks. We also ask a bigger question:Is Star Wars at its best when it looks forward… or when it leans into nostalgia? And yes… things get a little unhinged along the way.

Hunter and Jessica have finally reached the end of the road with the Andor Season 2 finale, and it's a straight shot right into the events of Rogue One. The hosts break down the claustrophobic Coruscant rescue where a spectacularly lethal K-2SO helps create the ultimate "ISB sandwich," putting a permanent "hurt" on Officer Heurt. Meanwhile, Major Partagaz realizes his tyrannical web has finally collapsed, choosing to ironically listen to Nemik's rebel manifesto one last time before making his dark exit.Back on Yavin 4, Cassian's massive intel dump about the critical phrase "Jedha, Kyber, and Erso" gets a surprisingly underwhelming reaction from Rebel command. The hosts discuss Mon Mothma's tense Zoom call with a paranoid Saw Gerrera, and hilariously debate whether Bail Organa is secretly shopping on Coruscant for metal bikinis—or just practical claw clips—for a teenage Princess Leia. They also marvel at Cassian's miraculously fresh Rogue One haircut and his adorable dedication to watering his plants before heading off on a suicide mission to the Ring of Kafrene.Hunter and Jessica try to hold back tears discussing the emotionally devastating final montage, which features Dedra Meero sporting Narkina 5 prison stripes, Krennic admiring his shiny new Death Star, and Bix hiding out on "fake Lothal" with a very surprising baby Andor. Stick around as the hosts map out their upcoming pod schedule, transitioning from a Rogue One rewatch straight into the highly anticipated April release of the Darth Maul: Shadow Lord series.Join us on Facebook: The Purrgil Pod. Actor Alan Tudyk (Arrested Development, Rogue One, Resident Alien) and comedian and actor Jade Catta-Preta (Modern Family, Life in Pieces, The Soup on E!) join Jameela for an episode that somehow ends up exactly where you'd expect, and nowhere you could have predicted.Alan's micro humiliation arrives courtesy of a chance encounter with a Disney executive, a case of mistaken identity, and the particular horror of confidently addressing the wrong powerful man by the wrong name to his face. His Big Wrong Turn takes us to a casual industry football game, where Alan shows up with brand new boots bought the day before, immediately starts playing what can only be described as rug-ball, gets demoted to goalie, concedes three goals, and is the only person in Los Angeles not invited for drinks afterwards.Jade's micro humiliation unfolds live on Watch What Happens, when an attempt to remove a stray hair from Andy Cohen's face reveals that it is very much still attached to him. Her Big Wrong Turn takes us back to a school production that cemented her fate as the default ethnic casting choice for every role going, from Lola in Damn Yankees to Scary Spice, not because she was the best fit, but because she was the only brown person in the building. In place of this week's Misery Loves Company, Jameela shares the story of paying for a friend's IVF to avoid becoming a godmother, only to watch that friend meet her sperm donor the night before the procedure and immediately render the whole thing completely unnecessary.Watch Alan Tudyk in Resident Alien on Sci-Fi and Peacock, and in Superman. He also co-hosts Once We Were Spacemen with Nathan Fillion, available wherever you get your podcasts. Follow Jade Catta-Preta at @JadeCattaPreta across socials, catch her live in New York and Alaska in July, and find her on OnlyFans at @FunnyButt.Jameela's Substack is A Low Desire To Please, you can also find her on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Our consulting producer is Colin Anderson.Wrong Turns was created and produced by Jameela Jamil and Stewart Bailey. Send a textWelcome back to Nerdery and Murdery! This week, on the Nerdery side of the house, Zig continues his chronological journey through the Star Wars universe with a deep dive into Rogue One. He explores the rebellion, the sacrifice, the storytelling choices, and why this film stands as one of the most grounded and emotional entries in the entire saga. Then Geoffrey takes us north - far north - to Alaska for the next installment in the Murdery side of the A–Z of American Serial Killers and Unsolved Cases. This time, it is The Pipeline Murders: a chilling cluster of disappearances and homicides that unfolded during the Trans-Alaska Pipeline boom of the 1970s. Women vanished. Bodies appeared in remote places. Multiple killers may have been at work. And through it all, the wilderness swallowed the answers. Two worlds. One episode.Welcome to Episode 240 - where rebellion meets the cold silence of the Last Frontier.Support the show
PseudoPod 1020: Walking Tour of Scarborough in Nuclear Winter is a PseudoPod original. Rogue One final scene 30 Days Of Night trailer From the author: “All of the landmarks in this story are real places in Scarborough, where my mother grew up and where I spent many childhood summers dining on crisps and 99 Flakes, and drinking fizzy drinks and orange squash in a rented chalet with… Source
Hunter and Jessica are back to break down the intense pressure of Andor Season 2, Episode 10, "Make it Stop". The timeline has officially jumped to one year before the Battle of Yavin, and poor double-agent Lonnie is absolutely "shook". After being buttered up by a surprisingly gentle Luthen on a very public Coruscant park bench, Lonnie finally delivers the ultimate Rogue One setup, dropping the intel on the Empire's kyber crystal strip-mining operation, Jedha, and a guy named Galen Erso. Sadly, it's RIP for Lonnie, though at least a Dave Filoni-approved Loth cat is the one to find his body. Meanwhile, Dedra Meero smarmily struts into the antique shop thinking she's finally trapped her rebel spy, only to discover Luthen has melted his comms with acid and literally stabbed himself to avoid interrogation. Hunter and Jessica question Luthen's incredibly messy methods, debating whether a Mandalorian-style poison pill would have been a much smarter play. Ultimately, Dedra's solo ambition completely blows up in her face, resulting in her getting arrested and questioned by her very own newly-promoted assistant. But the real MVP of the episode is Kleya. The hosts dissect her tragic backstory of witnessing Imperial executions as a child and her progression into a hardened rebel. In the present timeline, she pulls off a masterclass hospital infiltration by stealing scrubs, hijacking a hovering space-wheelchair, and casually abandoning an elderly alien grandmother to sneak past security. It all leads to a heartbreaking final sequence where Kleya must finish the job, crying as she pulls the plug on Luthen's life support. Plus, stick around for the hosts' quick thoughts on the upcoming Andor comic bridge to Rogue One, Darth Maul's glorious return in Shadow Lord, and the countdown to The Mandalorian and Grogu.Join us on Facebook: The Purrgil Pod. Each issue is a one-and-done story that begins in May with Cassian Andor, followed by Jyn Erso, Saw Gerrera, Chirrut and Baze and finally, Darth Vader. In this episode of SuperHero Homies!, we rank every live-action Star Wars movie and TV series released under Disney from worst to best. That means all 13 projects — including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, Solo, The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew — enter the arena. Yes, even Skeleton Crew gets its day in court. Is Andor still the prestige king of Disney Star Wars? Did The Mandalorian redefine the franchise? Has time been kind to the Sequel Trilogy? Where does Ahsoka land? And does Skeleton Crew surprise us or drift into hyperspace obscurity? We debate, we defend, and we reshuffle the galaxy one ranking at a time. Before we jump to hyperspace, our cold open dives into the latest rumors surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including possible appearances from Tombstone, Jean Grey, and Man-Spider. We also theorize about the X-Men's potential role in Avengers: Doomsday and what incursions could mean for the MCU moving forward. If you love Star Wars rankings, MCU theories, Marvel and DC discussions, comic book commentary, superhero movie reviews, and pop culture debates, this episode is built for you. Whether you're loyal to the light side, flirting with the dark side, or just here for the chaos, we've got you covered. Rogue One is tragic, brutal, and maybe the best Star Wars movie outside the original trilogy. Jason, Rachel, and Jeshua revisit Rogue One in timeline order and unpack why it still hits so hard — from its war-movie structure and unforgettable ending to how Andor completely reframes Cassian's story. We also get into K-2SO love, digital Tarkin debates, and why this movie feels so different from modern Star Wars. Spoilers throughout.
