The boys are running on fumes (and mulch) after a week of marathon training and yard work, but they're rallying for a gorgeous, low-stress evening in sweet, sweet Chicago. We kick things off reminiscing about last week's antics and lay out the game plan for tonight. Joe swings in with a recap of the Spider-Man exhibit, and we somehow pivot from superhero webs to the tangled mess of this week's politics—or lack thereof. Yes, Trump had a birthday parade (?!), and the "No Kings" protest made us ask, "Wait... do we have kings?" Then it's on to the news buffet: the new Nintendo Switch, Happy Gilmore 2 (finally!), rising tensions between Israel and Iran, and the heartbreaking plane crash in India. Don't worry—we wrap it all up with some feel-good stories and a surprise guest all the way from Italy to lift the vibes. Grab a drink and get ready — it's another classic episode of the Saturday Night Pregame!
This week, we're diving into the two Adam Sandler comedies that launched his career: Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Whether you grew up quoting “O'Doyle rules” or shouting “the price is wrong, bitch,” these movies are forever burned into our brains. We break down what still works, what doesn't, and whether these chaotic man-child stories hold up in 2025. Plus, we share some wild behind-the-scenes facts, favorite quotes, and the surprising heart hidden beneath all the yelling and nonsense voices.Give us a follow on Instagram and TikTok: @high.expectations.pod on both platformsReach out with comments or suggestions at podcast.highexpectations@gmail.comMusic courtesy of Vince Sasso of the Vince Sasso Trio(check them out on Instagram! @vincesassotrio)

It's US Open week and you'd think we'd start the show talking about that, or maybe about Ryan Fox's win in the Canadian Open, but no. Mark has found a new emoji that he likes and that's what he brings to the table to open the show with. Seriously Talk Birdie To Me used to be a serious golf show, we have jumped the shark. Even worse, the emoji doesn't mean what Mark thinks it does....awkward.But onto the US Open! Mark loves the week, and says even though the course is set up to be brutal and unreasonable, he loves watching it. He asks Nick what a 9-marker playing on Thursday would hypothetically shoot at Oakmont. Sobering. Nick talks about how difficult the course is, and was when he played it. The rough is juicy and the greens quick, and Nick expects that there is a chance the winning score may be level par saying the course is a war of attrition.Don't forget our Talk Birdie To Me multi at Betr - 16 bucks for Scheffler top 3, Ludvig to beat Rahm, and Straka to miss the cut. Get on here.We then discuss Ryan Fox's Canadian Open win, and the playoff particularly which was enthralling. Nick and Mark would have preferred rather than a par 5, a 4 or 3 hole for the playoff.Serious time. Mark gives an investigation on the ludicrous Top 100 Golf Course ranking list.Mark and Dan have been watching a new series called Stick about a former golf pro, Nick hasn't seen it yet. See the trailer here, it's good fun and worth a look. Mark is also excited about Happy Gilmore 2 which is 6 weeks away, Nick will watch it but isn't as excited and feels it looks pretty ordinary. After the turn a selfish Top 5 from Mark. His 5 things that he is most excited about in golf at the moment. Controversial though, as Dan accuses Mark of telling porky pies, and Nick provides clarity over one of his entries that cast doubt for Mark as to whether it should be on the list.Huge week of results in the PING globals from Nick, plenty of feedback on the Top 100 list - unsurprisingly given how terrible it is, and Mark suggests a movie about David Graham's life would be brilliant to see, and reveals a fact about him that not too many people would know. And in the masterclass today, Nick discusses why good rhythm is good golf, and why he uses a metronome. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Journey with us through the comedic time machine as we celebrate our 175th episode by unearthing comedy gold from our archives! This special retrospective episode reveals the raw, unfiltered humor that shaped our podcast's identity from the very beginning. The laughs kick off with our unvarnished take on the Happy Gilmore 2 trailer, where we dissect Hollywood's ongoing love affair with nostalgia and question whether Adam Sandler's upcoming sequel can recapture the magic of the original. Our no-holds-barred analysis reflects our commitment to honest comedy criticism – we call it like we see it, even when it means questioning beloved franchises. Then comes the unexpected reveal of John's secret AI metal project "Fermented Fear," complete with a world premiere of "Ashes of Salem" – a legitimately impressive track blending clean vocals with aggressive screaming sections. The detailed breakdown of creating AI-generated music and visuals showcases how we're constantly exploring new creative frontiers while staying true to our metal roots. The heart of the episode delivers exactly what longtime listeners crave – a hilarious revisiting of our earliest comedy sketches. From the wildly inappropriate Fraggle Rock parody that had us both in stitches, to the introduction of the now-beloved Jerry character at the movie theater, these unscripted moments capture the spontaneous magic that defined our early work. The imperfections and ad-libs in these sketches often make them funnier, proving that sometimes the best comedy comes from embracing the unexpected. As we reflect on 175 episodes of creative partnership, we share exciting updates about our music recording plans and career developments. Whether you've been with us since episode one or just discovered us today, this blend of nostalgia, new creative ventures, and our signature irreverent humor demonstrates why our unfiltered approach to comedy continues to resonate. Join us next week as we keep pushing comedic boundaries – there's plenty more where this came from!Send us a text message and let us know how awesome we are! In a lively discussion, radio host Sal Licata and his producer Hoff debated and ranked Ben Stiller's filmography. They ultimately agreed on Meet the Parents as his top film, followed by Along Came Polly, The Heartbreak Kid, Tropic Thunder, and Happy Gilmore. Other films like Dodgeball, There's Something About Mary, and Night at the Museum were also mentioned as strong contenders. The conversation took a humorous turn with a caller claiming to be Ben Stiller's second cousin, questioning Stiller's authenticity as a Knicks fan and lamenting his lack of communication.
Guess what, there's another reason to question the existence of the PS5 Pro! The Sony Sate of Play was pretty solid today, and its mainly due to the James Bond game trailer. Microsoft pushes back its handheld plans, Nintendo keeps it close to the vest, and Activision has a blunder. Plus Netflix has its Tudum, Mark Hamill shares his future, and thank god we don't live in the Michael Bay Superman Timeline. Plus my review of Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning.

In this special episode, we take a surprise detour from our planned coverage of Fly Away Home to honor the late, great Morris the Alligator with a deep dive into the 1980 cult classic Alligator. With Morris's recent passing, we felt it was only right to spotlight his breakout performance as the sewer-dwelling star of one of the most gloriously unhinged creature features ever made. We recap, review, and celebrate Morris's legacy as a true trailblazer in animal acting—delivering a performance that's equal parts terrifying and iconic.
