In Episode 17 of Season 4, Drew & Mick continue their review of James K.A. Smith's How Not to Be Secular by looking at Chapter 2 and the process of how the world went from a belief in the transcendent to buffered "immanentization" - that is, "the process whereby meaning, significance, and 'fullness' are sought within an enclosed, self-sufficient, naturalistic universe without any reference to transcendence - a kind of 'enclosure.'" They also look at how these shifts happen primarily at the level of aesthetics (i.e., taste, imagination) rather than logically. The Asheville, NC resident currently plays with Schooner, Better Twin, & Emily Easterly in addition to writing and performing under his own name. Carpenter has released two under-the-radar-but-stellar solo albums, Full Flight, in 2011, and Prey Tells, in 2017. Carpenter's aesthetic lends itself to Big Star's memorable hooks with the wry, eviscerating wit of Andy Partridge. Catchy, cerebral, and a little pugnacious. "… traces back through songsmiths Tobin Sprout and Matthew Sweet to Robyn Hitchcock and Ray Davies - nostalgia obsessives unafraid to dress their melancholy in pop trappings." -John Schacht, Independent Weekly (NC) Annabelle's Curse is an electrified indie-folk band from Bristol, TN/VA. LARKIN POEs music is a unique brand of swampadelic soul with tight vocal harmonies, dizzying instrumental riffs and insightful lyrics. Born and raised in Georgia, sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell are the charismatic soul-singing/songwriting duo. The sisters musical journey began at the ages of 5 and 6 playing classical violin and piano. In their early teens, they won a prestigious award on Garrison Keillors “A Prairie Home Companion on NPR. HUMMING HOUSE is a powerful quintet that embodies edgy Irish traditions, independent artistry with its legacies of folk, soul and bluegrass. Formed out of informal Irish music jams and the songwriting of Justin Wade Tam, the five musicians have played major festivals and have released two studio albums and one live recording since 2011, the latest being Revelries. WoodSongs Kid: The Hollow Bodies are a roots and folk trio from Lexington featuring Riley Logan on mandolin, Blakeley Burger on guitar and fiddle and Chris Cupp on cello.
