This week on Speakernomics, Robert Kennedy, III speaks with International tour expert, Elaine Rodriguez, about the significance of retreats for speakers and coaches. Elaine discusses the planning process, pricing considerations, and the importance of aligning the retreat theme, activities, and location. She emphasizes the need for a balance between learning and free time for participants to absorb information. In this episode, Elaine will share: Retreats for Impactful Messaging: Retreats are presented as a pure way to convey messages, connect with clients, and facilitate transformations, allowing speakers to impact their audience more deeply. Strategic Planning and Pricing: Speakers are advised to plan retreats at least nine months to a year in advance, considering audience affordability. Pricing should reflect the value provided, with an emphasis on not undervaluing one's time and effort. Balancing Structure and Spontaneity: The ideal retreat schedule includes a mix of learning, coaching, and free time. Leaving room for spontaneity allows for unexpected, impactful activities and enhances the overall retreat experience. One of the biggest puzzles is why some people carry so much anger, pain, depression, or anxiety even though they haven't experienced a "real trauma." This might be a sign of chronic invalidation, when someone received consistent messages that their emotions aren't valid when they're growing up. Chronic invalidation can infect early caregiving environments and can have devastating impacts on mental health in adulthood. In this episode, we talk with Dr. Marcus Rodriguez, associate professor of Pitzer College, Director of the Global Mental Health Lab and founder of the Youth and Family Institute (not to mention, our "lab brother" from Duke). Dr. Rodriguez describes what chronic invalidation looks like and how it can be treated with evidence-based therapies. This week we're replaying a classic episode where Steve and Yvonne interview John Duff and Alex Hilliard of Hilliard Martinez Gonzalez LLP (https://www.hmglawfirm.com/). Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here to Rate and Review View/Download Trial Documents Case Details: Texas trial attorneys John Duff and Alex Hilliard of Hilliard Martinez Gonzales LLP share how they secured justice for the family of 60-year-old truck driver Juan Perez, who died after falling through Rodriguez Trucking's rotted roof onto a cement floor 12 feet below. Juan was a dedicated employee of Rodriguez Trucking for 17 years, contrary to the defense's claims that he was not employed by the company at the time of the incident, and was asked to help repair the roof without a safety harness or training of any kind, both of which resulted in a serious Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) violation. A San Patricio County, Texas jury found Rodriguez Trucking owner Isaac G. Rodriguez, Sr. negligent and returned a verdict of $18 million, including $10 million in punitive damages. Guest Bios: Alex Hilliard Alex Hilliard is a dedicated advocate for those who have been injured or have lost a loved one due to another party's negligence. Alex is committed to championing his clients' interests, understanding the challenges they face, and helping them secure compensation for their losses. Alex's top priority is achieving the most just case resolution for his clients, be it trial or settlement, which is seen in his tireless investigation and persistence. He has distinguished himself with the loyalty and support he shows to his clients in his determination to ensure that their voices are heard. His kindhearted nature makes him perfect for his position in personal injury and wrongful death cases – he handles clients with the sensitivity that is required yet is committed to researching and crafting a strategy that strengthens each case. He brings passion on behalf of those he serves and shares empathy with those victims of tragedy at all times. Having clerked at HMG for three years while attending St. Mary's Law School, Alex worked on many aspects of personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including the high-profile ignition-switch litigation against General Motors. HMG represented injury victims and families of those killed in accidents caused by GM's defective ignition switch and their concealment of safety defects. This multi-district litigation is considered the single largest product liability litigation in US history, resulting in a $575 million settlement. In September 2018, Alex was appointed to the Plaintiffs' Litigation Committee for the MSU/Nassar Class-Action in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. Currently, Alex is part of a class action litigation team that represents diesel truck owners fighting against U.S. auto manufacturers — Ford, General Motors, FCA (Chrysler) — for allegedly selling millions of diesel trucks equipped with defective CP4 fuel injection pumps that disintegrate and destroy the truck's engine, leaving consumers with repair bills that range from $8,000.00 to $20,000.00 per vehicle. Alex is a sought-after speaker, and he regularly presents on cutting-edge legal topics. This year, Alex will address audiences across the country about how law firms can improve results by conducting in-house mock trials. In the past year, Alex has lectured at the Advanced Personal Injury Law Conference in Dallas on the latest tactics in the financial aspect of budgeting a personal injury lawsuit and was a featured speaker at the Texas ALP 2018 Fall Education Conference. Alex regularly speaks at continuing education events for the Texas Bar College and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial, Civil Appellate, and Personal Injury Trial Law, and was honored to speak at the 2018 LitiQuest Litiquest 2018 conference at Google Headquarters in New York. Alex often gives back to his community by working with local middle school, high school, and college mock trial teams. We invite you to join in for a transparent conversation about a journey with Christ through sexual identity. It was such a blessing to have Estefany Rodriguez join us in the studio! ⚠️ Before you listen, we do want to give you a trigger warning for this episode. Childhood sexual abuse is discussed in this conversation. ⚠️ Estefany begins her story by sharing about the sexual abuse she experienced as a child. Aside from the abuse, she knew that she had what she describes as different feelings towards girls. Having a Catholic background, she was aware that same-sex attraction was considered a sin. After high school she officially identified as a lesbian and began a 5-year relationship with a girl she met at work. Estefany eventually wound up at GCU and a class had her reading the Bible weekly for homework. She was adamant that the Christians at GCU would not convert her. The Lord revealed Himself to her as she was studying the Bible and He truly came alive through His Word. Slowly but surely, Estefany was coming to know who Jesus was. Her life was forever changed when she gave her life over to Him. With that came a decision - would she remain in the lesbian lifestyle or fully surrender and live the life Jesus has for her? McNair Hall is home to an impressive collection of public art. With 19 installations that have been an intentional element of the building renovations since 2018, Rice is proud of the diverse permanent collection, which represents artists of a number of different ages, countries, genders and backgrounds. The new art helps communicate our philosophy that a good piece of art forces you to think, engage and have an opinion. So today, we sit down with Alison Weaver and Dean Peter Rodriguez to discuss this exciting and important collection. Alison Weaver was named founding executive director of Rice University's Moody Center for the Arts in July 2015. Prior to her appointment, she was the director of affiliates for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. At the Guggenheim, Weaver led its programs and operations in Berlin, Bilbao, Venice, and Las Vegas, while managing its departments of exhibition management, registration, art services, and library/archives in New York. Peter Rodriguez has been the dean of Rice Business since 2016. Since then, he has doubled MBA enrollment, grown the tenure-track faculty by more than 35%, introduced the first online graduate degree at Rice, launched the undergraduate business major, renovated McNair Hall and helped the Rice Business community survive Hurricane Harvey and grow stronger during COVID. Alison and Peter discuss how the initiative started, the overarching theme for the collection, dive into the significance of the pieces you see in the halls and outside the building, and the symbiotic relationship between business and art.Owl Have You Know is a production of Rice Business and is produced by University FM.Episode Quotes:We are living in a world without boundaries17:38 [Alison Weaver] This idea, that instead of thinking about things as siloed and maybe individually—let's say, fields of expertise staying in their lane—I think the real question is: What can we learn from each other, and what exciting sparks are generated when those fields collide? So when you think about artists and the creative problem-solving that they do, and many are research-driven in their practice, they are looking deeply into questions that concern them. And those could be questions of the environment. They could be questions of, in the case of the artist Beverly Pepper, she's interested in big pharma. How is the pharmaceutical industry affecting our culture and our public health? These are questions that aren't just purely aesthetics. And I think that what I hope putting art into spaces can do is really open up those fields of inquiry for unexpected exploration.Art is beyond museums23:43 [Alison Weaver] The artwork that meets people where they are—where they're studying, living, and working—is quite different. We do exhibitions at the Moody, and of course, I love it when people come to see them, but they come and go, so you have a snapshot in time, but not that durational relationship, and that's special. On creating a platform for the intersection of art and ideas06:55 [Peter Rodriguez] If you think about where organizations create value, it's through the creative process. You have to find solutions to complex problems to create value in the world. And that's less about being cloistered away and, you know, sharpening your pencil and green eyeshade on doing work than it is about trying to work together. And opening your mind to things that haven't been done before and ways of proceeding. And so that's what we want our students to think about: how do they open their minds and use their very best of all that they know to make change happen and to make progress in the directions we want? So whether it's medicine, the energy transition, or tech, creativity is at the heart of everything businesses need to do. And we needed a way to live that a bit more than we were living it at the time.On making art accessible30:55 [Alison Weaver] One of the interesting things about public art is that there is no barrier if it's in your everyday world. And so, the work behind us is here all the time. Whether people are taking classes or studying in the building, they will pass by it. They might spend time looking at it and might not. I think the best way to—I wouldn't say explain, but to make accessible—any art, but certainly contemporary art, is to make it familiar and accessible, like public art. So we start there by just putting it where people already are.Show Links: Rice Business Public Art Collection Mission | Moody Center for The Arts Rice Public Art | Moody Center for The Arts Transcript Guest Profile: Alison Weaver Peter Rodriguez | Rice Business

One of the most exciting realities about having God's Spirit within us is that he endows each of us with unique spiritual gifts. These gifts, which take the form of everything from serving to giving to prophecy, are crucial components of our unique identities in Christ as well as the healthy functioning of the “body” we are a part of. In this message we will explore what it means to be “gifted” by God and the profound, life-giving satisfaction we can discover when we fully lean in to the one-of-a-kind purposes given to us by our Father.

Psychologists espouse what God's people have known since Israel's conception: there is great power in gratitude. Neuroscientists have shown that practicing thankfulness can create new neuropathways, even helping to heal past trauma. But why does God command his people to thank him? In this episode, Dru dives deep into exploring our worthiness from a biblical perspective, asserting that while everyone is created in God's image, our sins make us unworthy. Focusing on the redemption through Christ's sacrifice, Dru emphasizes living a life that is commensurate with the Gospel, not just declaring our worthiness.

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Maria Gambetta from the University of Lausanne about her work on the function of insulators in 3D genome folding. Maria Gambetta focuses on investigating 3D contact dynamics between enhancers and promoters, providing insights into tissue-specific gene activation. The team used capture-C to analyze dynamic looping events, emphasizing the significance of accessible chromatin peaks in enhancer-promoter interactions. Furthermore, they focused on gene insulation and CTCF's role in forming topologically associating domains in Drosophila. Hi-C analysis on CTCF mutants revealed the conservation of TAD boundary mechanisms, identifying CP-190 as a potential binding protein. Their findings on the loss of TAD boundaries in mutants and the role of transcription in TAD boundary formation are discussed as well as the function of CP190 and insulators in preventing interactions between promoters and enhancers. Their work challenges existing models of insulator function and seeks to understand their mechanisms better. The conversation concludes with insights into long-range regulatory associations in Drosophila, emphasizing the punctual interactions between transcription factor binding sites and their effect on neural gene transcription and genome folding. As the world of cybercrime continues to expand, it follows suit that more international legal standards should follow. But while many governments around the globe see a need for a cybercrime treaty to set a standard, a current proposal on the table at the United Nations is raising concerns among private companies and nonprofit organizations alike. There are fears it covers too broad a scope of crime and could fail to protect free speech and other human rights across borders while not actually having the intended effect of combatting cybercrime. In season 2, episode 4 of Patching the System, we focus on the international system of online peace and security. In this episode, we hear about provisions currently included in the proposed Russia-sponsored UN cybercrime treaty as deliberations continue - and why they might cause more problems than they solve. Our participants are: Nick Ashton-Hart, head of delegation to the Cybercrime Convention Negotiations for the Cybersecurity Tech Accord Katitza Rodriguez, policy director for global privacy at a civil society organization, the Electronic Frontier Foundation Ali Wyne, Eurasia Group Senior Analyst (moderator) GZERO's special podcast series “Patching the System,” produced in partnership with Microsoft as part of the award-winning Global Stage series, highlights the work of the Cybersecurity Tech Accord, a public commitment from over 150 global technology companies dedicated to creating a safer cyber world for all of us.

Episode 143 Leslie Rodriguez 27 year old Orlando, Florida resident, Leslie Rodriguez by all accounts was a positive force and good friend to those that knew her. She always had a smile, and brought happiness and positive energy to every situation. Described as a 'ray of sunshine', Leslie was a new mom to a young son, Roman and was looking to the next chapter in her life after breaking off a relationship with Roman's father, 28 year old Devin Griggs. Leslie's mom Eileen, and stepfather moved from Chicago to be closer to Leslie & Roman, and it should have been a great time for their family. But Devin was struggling leading up to the breakup with Leslie, and after, and had gone awol from the military before winding up in Orlando. Leslie had left him after he changed, and he began to act paranoid, and claimed people were watching him. Although Devin had never been violent with Leslie, that would all change on May 9, 2022 when he showed up at Leslie's apartment. Leslie let him in thinking he was there to see Roman, but he had other ideas. He pulled out a gun and shot Leslie multiple times, killing her. He then called 911 and told them what he had done, and that he was about to take his own life. Police raced to the scene but when they arrived, they found both Leslie and Devin dead. Miraculously, little Roman was physically unharmed, but sadly, he witnessed the violent deaths of his parents. The senseless and tragic deaths have left two families devastated. Eileen had moved to Florida to be close to her daughter, and instead, she had to make funeral arrangements for her. Now she's focused on raising Roman, and ready to support him with any lingering effects from what he witnessed, and to answer the questions he will surely one day ask. Eileen discusses this tragic case, and whether or not it could have been prevented, and if there was any warning that this might happen.
