You know those moments when life just stops you in your tracks and says, “Nope, it's time to rethink everything”? That's exactly what happened to this week's guest, Mary Beth Rodriguez. Before Mary Beth was leading transformative cacao ceremonies and helping us all slow down, she was living in the fast lane—a chef, food stylist, buyer, and corporate exec, all rolled into one. (Can you relate?)Then came a health scare that changed everything, sending her on a journey toward healing, nourishment, and the art of ritual. Enter with/ritual, her wellness brand dedicated to weaving intentional, simple rituals into our everyday lives—so we can reconnect with ourselves and actually breathe for a second.Robyn recently joined Mary Beth for a cacao ceremony and she will tell you: it cracked something open inside that she didn't even know needed healing. Yes, it's that powerful. So in this episode, we're diving into:What really happens in a cacao ceremony (spoiler: it's not just about chocolate, but you will want a cup). How to create small, doable rituals that bring you back to yourself—no matter how busy you are.Mary Beth's own story of transformation—and why slowing down was the most rebellious thing she could do.Ways you can bring a little more stillness and magic into your life, starting right now.Ready to hit pause and find a little grace in your day? You're in the right place.MORE FROM MARY BETH + WITH/RITUALCurious about cacao, or want to start your own rituals? his week on The Rotten Horror Picture Show Podcast, Clay and Amanda dive into one of the wildest, weirdest experiments in modern cinema: 2007's Grindhouse, the double-feature mashup from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. On one side you've got Rodriguez's gooey, gonzo Planet Terror, a zombie-action extravaganza filled with melting bodies, exploding heads, and a machine gun leg. On the other, Tarantino's Death Proof, a talky, tense, and brutal slasher on wheels starring Kurt Russell as a stuntman with murderous intentions. Throw in some fake trailers from the likes of Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie, and Eli Roth, and what you've got is a love letter to trash cinema that's messy, ambitious, and unlike anything else that's come out of Hollywood in the last twenty years. Clay and Amanda unpack what worked, what didn't, and why the whole package still holds a strange place in horror fans' hearts. Now, that's all well and good, but I have to admit something: when I heard they were covering Grindhouse, my brain went in a totally different direction. Because to me, “Grind” means one thing — MTV's The Grind, the sweaty, neon-soaked, mid-'90s dance party beamed into homes across America every afternoon. You know the one — crop tops, Jock Jams, people doing the Macarena under pulsating strobe lights. Honestly, I thought Clay and Amanda were about to drop the definitive podcast documentary on Eric Nies' greatest cultural contribution. Imagine my disappointment when it turned out to be about exploding pustules and creepy stuntmen instead of body glitter and choreographed hip thrusts.Still, horror fans are in for a treat, even if my dance nostalgia remains tragically unmet. Join Clay and Amanda as they revisit Grindhouse—just, you know, the blood-soaked one, not the bass-thumping one.And don't forget to head over to patreon.com/thepenskyfile to follow Clay and Amanda down the muddy path of remakes and reboots too!

Today's guest is a consistency queen and one of the leaders of Kentucky's team – Delaynee Rodriquez. Delaynee is underrated in the sense that she's not necessarily the one bringing home all the awards or accolades, but she's the one silently killing it in the background for her team—starting them off strong week after week and consistently delivering reliable 9.85+ scores on every event, giving her team a solid foundation to build on. Now, as she enters her junior year, we could see her stepping into a leadership role even more and becoming one of the top all-arounders in the country this season.Thank you to our monthly Patreon supporters: Lee B, Cookiemaster, Christa, Happy Girl, Erica S, Semflam, Amy C, Maria L, Becca S, Cathleen R, Faith, Kerry M, M, Derek H, Martin, Sharon B, Randee B, MSU, Kimberly G, Robert H, Lela M, Mara L, Jenna A, Alex M, Mama T, Kelsey, Lidia, Maria P, Alicia O, Cristina K, Bethany J, Diane J, Kentiemac, Marni S, Betny T, Emily C, Cathy D, Lisa T, Libby C, Thiago, Taryn M, Dana B, Jamie S, Chuck C, Je_GL, Kaitlin, Susan P, Katertot, Mallory D, LFC_Hokie, Ella, Debbie, Megan F, Kay, Diane J, Julie B,, Austin K, Jane, Sarah, Amy, Stephen S, Johanna T, Alison S, Kristina T, Abigail W, Becky, Ola S, Jennifer K, Kate M, Claudia, Erin L, Sarah A, Kennedy B, Thomas B, Kihika N, Beth C, Amy, Renee PM, Ryan V, Brandon H, Tyler, Hayley B, Ben S, Kate & Landon, Danielle, ALittleUnderRotated, Dana C, Grace, Pat G , Lexi G, Laura N, Kathy, Katie A, Ruby B,, Róisín, Becca, Megan J, Emily D, Britton, Ry Shep, Reyna G, William A, MB, MJ L, Jackson G, Brittany A, Stella, Ulo F, Noah C, Melissa H, Alexis, William M, Trish, Susie, Leslie G, Catherine B, Karlin, Laura L, Katy S, J'nia G, Kathy M, Kathy S, Okcaro, Caroline P, JD B, Cookiecutter, Ailish D, Wil D, Caroline M, kcmojojojo, Sammy S, Fabio B, Kerry H, Ricardo A & Brandon!

With so many other issues swirling around us in this broken world, it can be very easy to think that caring for the planet falls pretty low on our priority list. Why worry about climate change or species extinction when there seem to be so many more pressing matters? The answer is simple: because God cares about his Creation and we should too. In this message we will explore how God's love and sustaining Spirit extend even to the physical world, including the plants and creatures who live here, and how our role from the very beginning was as caretakers of the Creation he sustains. We will also consider how the poor and marginalized of humanity (whom God also dearly loves) are threatened when our physical world is neglected and how the broken place of decay influences all the other broken places. By meditating on this thread from Scripture we will begin to see how our best possible life includes living in harmony and peace with the Earth and joining God in his sustaining work over Creation.

The battle between dirt and asphalt tracks, the delicate ecosystem of regional racing, and the high-stakes fall racing season take center stage in this revealing conversation with motorsports commentator Rodney Rodriguez. As Texas transitions into fall, circle track racing enters its most exciting phase with championship battles heating up and big money events drawing competitors from across state lines. Rodriguez highlights the SuperTex 600 at Rocket Raceway Park—a minimal-rules competition offering a potential $25,000 prize—as an example of grassroots racing at its finest, where "you can damn near run anything you have" from bombers to modifieds.Behind this excitement lurks a troubling industry trend: historic venues like Devil's Bowl Speedway closing permanently, forcing racers to travel greater distances while remaining tracks fail to coordinate effectively. The podcast reveals how personal rivalries and business pressures prevent track operators from collaborating on schedules, ultimately hurting car counts and fan attendance. As Rodriguez explains, "Tracks intentionally scheduled on top of each other...that cuts your car count down, that cuts your fan count, it divides the racers."The conversation expands to critique both NASCAR's Next Gen car for being "too smart" and diminishing competition, and IndyCar's abbreviated season that causes the series to "fall off the map" despite having exceptional racing. These industry-wide challenges reflect a motorsport landscape at a crossroads—balancing tradition with innovation while fighting for audience attention.Whether you're a dedicated race fan or simply curious about the culture of American motorsports, this episode offers invaluable insights into the passion, economics, and challenges shaping racing's future. Language can be the difference between getting help in a crisis or suffering in silence. It's Hispanic Heritage month, and in this special edition of 'Chiefs Chat' on the Cape CopCast, Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore sits down with Officer Carlos Prieto and Officer Amanda Rodriguez to explore how the police force is evolving to serve its rapidly growing Spanish-speaking community. While officially documented at 25% Spanish-speaking, Chief Sizemore believes Cape Coral's Hispanic population is closer to 30% or higher. This population shift presents unique challenges for emergency services, particularly during high-stress situations when communication barriers can mean the difference between life and death. As Officer Prieto eloquently explains, when a domestic violence victim sees an officer who speaks their language, it creates an immediate sense of trust and comfort that encourages them to share crucial information. Both officers bring powerful personal perspectives to the discussion. Officer Prieto shares his journey from Cuba in 2012, fleeing communism and waiting five years to become a US citizen before joining the force. Officer Rodriguez, born in Puerto Rico and a Cape Coral resident for over 20 years, transitioned from being a 911 call taker to fulfilling her dream of becoming a police officer. Their stories illuminate why representation matters in effective policing, beyond simply meeting diversity statistics. The message to Cape Coral's Spanish-speaking residents is clear and compassionate: don't hesitate to call the police when you need help. It's about ensuring everyone enjoys the safety and protection they deserve. As Officer Rodriguez reassures listeners, "If you come to this country to work and fight and move forward, we're here to support you."

Sixto Rodriguez, known simply as Rodriguez, lived one of the most extraordinary and unlikely journeys in modern music history. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he grew up the son of Mexican immigrants in a city teeming with both industrial promise and economic struggle. His upbringing in Detroit's working-class neighbourhoods profoundly shaped his worldview and his music. Rodriguez's songs spoke of poverty, social injustice, and the struggles of everyday people—lyrics that would later resonate deeply with audiences halfway across the world. From an early age, Rodriguez gravitated toward music. He learned guitar on his own and began writing songs that mixed folk, rock, and blues with a poet's touch. His lyrics were sharp, socially conscious, and often laced with a haunting melancholy. Though Rodriguez possessed immense talent, Detroit in the late 1960s was already overflowing with Motown stars, garage rock bands, and rising folk voices. Breaking through wasn't easy.In '67, Rodriguez recorded a single that didn't gain much traction. A few years later his big break seemed to arrive with his debut album, Cold Fact, in 1970. Critics admired the record, but commercially it fell flat in the US.Undeterred, Rodriguez recorded a second album, Coming from Reality, in '71. But like its predecessor, the album struggled to find an audience. Disillusioned, Rodriguez quietly stepped away from the music industry. Heworked a series of manual labor jobs—construction, demolition, even factory work. For years, he lived modestly, raising his daughters while music became more of a private outlet than a public pursuit. Unbeknownst to him, his music was taking on a life of its own thousands of miles away. In South Africa, during the height of apartheid, Rodriguez's albums had found their way to audiences. To South Africans, Rodriguez was as revered as Bob Dylan or John Lennon.Yet in Detroit, he had no idea of his fame overseas. For decades, South African fans knew every lyric, while the man himself remained in the dark about his global impact. The truth began to unravel in the late '90s, when two South African fans set out to discover where he was. They found him in Detroit and brought hin to South Africa fin 1998. Concert halls overflowed with fans . For Rodriguez, it was a surreal moment of validation, arriving nearly three decades after he'd walked away from music. The story of Rodriguez's rediscovery was later captured in the 2012 Academy Award-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man. With its mix of mystery, tragedy, and triumph, the documentary transformed Rodriguez into an international icon almost overnight. His albums were reissued, he toured internationally, and he finally enjoyed the recognition that had eluded him in his youth.Rodriguez's daughter, Sandra tells us that despite his newfound fame, her dad remained grounded. He continued living in his modest home. Known for his humility and gentle nature, he preferred to let his music speak for itself. He carried no bitterness at al.Rodriguez's story is often described as one of the most remarkable in rock history—a tale of how music can transcend time, borders, and politics. His songs, rooted in the struggles of Detroit in the '70s, found their greatest meaning in a country he'd never visited until decades later. In the process, Rodriguez became a symbol of resilience, artistry, and the unpredictable power of music.Sixto Rodriguez passed away in 2023 at the age of 81. His death marked the end of a truly singular life, but his music continues to live on. For those who grew up singing his words in South Africa and in Australia, and for the many around the world who discovered him through Searching for Sugar Man, Rodriguez will always be remembered not just as a musician, but as a poet of the people, a voice of quiet defiance, and the ultimate comeback story.I know you'll enjoy hearing Sandra Rodriguez tell her Dad's story.

Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: Health insurance changes coming to Georgia Brace yourselves, Georgia. Health-care advocates are sounding the alarm: insurance rates on the government marketplace are set to spike next year. Why? Insurers blame federal budget cuts and the end of COVID-era tax credits, according to Anthony Wright of Families USA. And who’s hit hardest? Folks without job-based coverage—think restaurant servers, gig workers, barbers, plumbers, and other self-employed Georgians. The numbers are grim. KFF says half a million could lose coverage, while Georgians for a Healthy Future estimates 340,000, with rates jumping 75%. STORY 2: Paraglider hospitalized after crash at Barrow County Airport  A paraglider crashed at Barrow County Airport in Winder on Thursday afternoon and was rushed to the hospital, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Details? Pretty scarce. Deputies and firefighters got the call around 1:04 p.m. about the crash. When they arrived, the man was breathing but unresponsive—scary stuff. He’s now in the hospital, and the FAA is stepping in to investigate what went wrong. Sheriff Jud Smith praised the quick-thinking citizen who called 911, saying their actions helped first responders get there fast. STORY 3: Peach Bowl and College Football Playoff Foundation team up for makeover at Lilburn Middle School Lilburn Middle School just got a serious upgrade, thanks to Peach Bowl, Inc. and the College Football Playoff Foundation. As part of their Extra Yard Makeover initiative, the school’s STEM lab was completely renovated—and unveiled Tuesday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Students and teachers got their first look at the revamped space, and let’s just say, jaws dropped. The $200,000 partnership has already transformed eight schools, including Hope Hill Elementary and North Clayton Middle. Oh, and one lucky teacher? Surprised with $1,000 for classroom projects. He’s got a knack for navigating codes, reviewing shop drawings, and keeping clients happy—basically, the guy knows his stuff. A Kennesaw State grad with additional training in project and practice management, Rodriguez is set to make waves in the firm’s seven core markets, from healthcare to transportation. Founded in 1958, Hussey Gay Bell now operates eight offices across the Southeast. STORY 5: Valdosta State president leaving for California post Valdosta State University President Richard Carvajal is heading west. Come January 20, he’ll take the helm at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, leaving behind nearly a decade of leadership at VSU. Carvajal stepped in during a rocky time in 2017—he was the seventh president in just eight years—and brought much-needed stability. Under his watch, VSU hit milestones: record graduate enrollment, campus renovations, and a $39 million performing arts center in progress. Break 3: STORY 6: Buford woman wins Mrs. America crown Growing up in tiny Glennville, Georgia, Paige Ewing (née Armstrong) dabbled in pageants—Junior Miss Tattnall County, Miss Pinewood Christian Academy, even Miss Georgia Onion (yes, that’s a thing).
