Episode 245: Sit Down with Alexander PaganiRecently, Jeff Lyle spent some time in the studio with best-selling author and deliverance minister, Alexander Pagani. Their discussion helps Mavericks and Misfits audience members in multiple ways. In this powerful discussion, we are led into a discussion concerning the transformative power of reformation in the Church. The key message revolves around the three R's: Repentance, Reformation, and Revival. Jeff and Alexander challenge us to embrace change not as critics or revolutionaries, but as reformers who enhance systems rather than destroy them. The tribe of Asher is highlighted as a biblical example of continuous favor and legacy, reminding us that God desires to bless His people abundantly. This message encourages us to seek 'food fit for kings' - high-level revelatory teachings that nourish our spirits deeply above the level of constant milk which is more fit for spiritual infants. As we reflect on our own walk with God, we are prompted to consider: Are we truly embracing Holy Spirit led reformation in our lives and churches? Are we seeking the deeper truths God wants to reveal to us? This episode inspires us to pursue a faith that is both grounded in scripture and open to the fresh move of the Spirit.

In this episode we are thrilled to be joined by NBA salary cap expert analyst Yossi Gozlan, making his third appearance on our podcast.Today we focus on the Mavericks' salary cap situation going into this pivotal summer where they will draft Cooper Flagg #1 overall and pivot their team building around him. Yossi tells us that the Mavericks will enter this summer slightly over the 2nd apron of $207.8 million, and will probably be looking to shed some salary so they can get under that figure. They may even try to dump further money so that they can get under the 1st apron threshold of $195.9 million. In all likelihood, they will at least be over the luxury tax threshold of $187.8 million, limiting their player acquisition avenues to the taxpayer mid-level exception, and trades. In order to gain access to the full mid-level exception, the Mavericks would have to shed enough salary to get under that luxury tax threshold, which may be difficult to do with only one team (Brooklyn Nets) possessing cap space to potentially take on contracts in a salary dump. We then discuss with Yossi whether it makes sense for the Mavs to prioritize their future with Flagg by trading Anthony Davis while his value is still high. We are all in agreement that while that is the wise decision, we do not trust Mavs general manager Nico Harrison to do it. With that in mind, Yossi walks us through avenues the Mavs can move around players on their roster to address their biggest needs this summer, namely a point guard. Yossi also tells us that while the penalties of the NBA's “Apron era” can be harsh, there are still avenues for teams to avoid the worst effects of it, specifically frozen draft picks. Finally, with Yossi being a Los Angeles resident, we get his perspective on how the vibe in the city has changed since the Lakers traded for Luka Dončić. He talks about how Luka reminds a lot of Lakers fans of certain Laker legends such as Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson. While we all lament the deal, we try to look forward to the new era the Mavs will be entering with Cooper Flagg. You can follow Yossi on X/Twitter @YossiGozlan. This episode is a continuation of Vinay's great article covering Cooper Flagg's scouting report. Today, Jay and Vinay discuss that in more depth. We cover his physical traits, and how they project to shape him as an NBA player. We also discuss his special defensive talent and why that might be his defining skill going into his first year in the NBA. Between his IQ, motor, and feel for the game, he has all the tools to be a game-changing defender, without needing to be the primary defensive stopper for his team.We also talk about his offensive skillset, and where he excels on that end of the floor. We acknowledge that his offense is where the majority of (albeit not many) questions lie about how his game will translate to the NBA level. The biggest question remains whether he can morph into the #1 option for a contending team. Between his balanced offensive game, finishing ability, and underrated playmaking, we believe Cooper Flagg can become that if he continues to improve his ball handling and three-point shooting off the dribble. We conclude with a thought exercise on what Cooper's career will look like if he fulfills his potential and also what it could look like if he falls short of expectations in the NBA. Be sure to tune into our podcast Thursday, May 22 for a special episode on the salary cap implications Cooper Flagg and how the Mavs can improve the team around him during the 2025 offseason. The discussion delves into Revelation 13 and 2 Thessalonians 2, painting a vivid picture of the end times. This message urges us to deepen our relationship with Christ daily, emphasizing that our ability to resist future deception hinges on our present devotion. It's a wake-up call to live out the Great Commission, serve others, and carry our cross daily - not just in words, but in tangible actions that reflect Christ's love.

This is a lesson for everyone watching: Don't mix work with pleasure. Or in Bill Belichick's case — don't date someone 50 years younger and parade her around like a trophy. Jason reacts to a Washington Post exposé unraveling the PR disaster that is the former Patriots coach's bizarre relationship. The question at hand: Is it really that hard to practice sexual morality in today's culture? Skap Attack joins the show to break down a jam-packed sports and culture slate. Also, it is day two of the Diddy trial, and it is heating up. Stephen A. Smith makes headlines again — this time for a racially charged comment about the Dallas Mavericks potentially drafting white phenom Cooper Flagg. And the Golden State Warriors are officially eliminated from the NBA Playoffs. Is this the end of the Steph Curry era? Can the Warriors make one final title run, or is it time to blow it up? Wrapping up today's episode, Jason reacts to a clip of Dave Portnoy on "Club Shay Shay" throwing shade in his direction. What's Jason got cooking in response? After the show, head over to the Jason Whitlock Harmony channel, as Jason addresses the shocking future possibility of Derek Chauvin — yes, that Derek Chauvin — becoming eligible for parole. A jam-packed Thursday episode you don't want to miss. Bomani Jones is joined by Tom Haberstroh of Yahoo Sports to discuss the Jayson Tatum injury and NBA lottery results. Bo starts off the show by saying this seems like a career-altering injury for Jayson Tatum (1:17), similar to Derrick Rose, and why we never saw these types of injuries years ago (9:31). Moving onto the NBA lottery results, Bo says if you believe the NBA rigged the lottery for the Dallas Mavericks you're stupid (29:05) and if Cooper Flagg is a star or high end second option (37:27)? Bo and Tom also float the idea of Giannis Antetokounmpo being traded to Dallas for the 1st pick (38:15) and why San Antonio may make the most sense to pair him with Wemby (45:02). They round out the show by asking if the Draft Lottery actually works (58:46) and suggesting an NBA national signing day may be a better option than an NBA Draft? (1:04:36) . . . Today's word of the day is ‘NICO' as in Nico Harrison as in the Dallas Mavericks as in Cooper Flagg as in Luka Doncic as in the NBA Draft Lottery. What a night. Was it all rigged? Did Adam Silver do this? Fans are furious. Never moved up in the lottery before. Never won the draft lottery. 4th lowest chances ever. It's crazy! (10:40) Is Giannis on the move? Could he be going to the Spurs? They have the pieces to do something like that. Does Giannis even want out? Can the Bucks build a team around him? (17:20) Knicks Tape took over again. Jalen Brunson is so good. Knicks took a 3-1 lead. Jayson Tatum likely tore his achilles. Bad bad bad. (26:40) The Minnesota Timberwolves are up 3-1 now. Anthony Edwards got it done. Jimmy Butler was nowhere to be found. (31:40) Review: Nonnas. (34:40) Michael Jordan is back in the NBA. No, not like that. On NBC! (42:30) So You Wanna Talk to Samson!?
