Support The Film Nuts Podcast on Patreon! The things that get us interested in watching something vary from person to person. It could be the cast, it could be a striking visual we've seen teased on the internet or even something broad like just the genre. But what if the thing that you hooked was just a question? A question like, “Who killed Laura Palmer?”Twin Peaks asked audiences that question before the show even aired. Promotional ads in papers and on television invited folks to journey to a small, sleepy town in the pacific northwest to find the answer. Disguised as a simple whodunnit, Twin Peaks redefined what TV was capable of. Creators Mark Frost and David Lynch ventured into the absurd, the twisted, the quirky, the nightmarish, the uncomfortable and the charming to bring about a turning point in television history. And for today's guest, the question of "Who Killed Laura Palmer?" became secondary to the unique and subversive story portrayed in Twin Peaks. Jace Lacob is a writer and podcaster currently hosting the Masterpiece Studio podcast from PBS, a companion to the network's long running anthology series. Having worked for decades in and around the television industry, covering and interviewing thousands of actors, writers and directors, for Jace things seem to always come back to Twin Peaks. We chat about his time working in television journalism, the time he made Cheryl Lee cry and what Twin Peaks teaches us about trying to know all the answers.Notey Notes:PBS Masterpiece Studio podcastJace's other workAll clips courtesy of Paramount. Our theme is season is by theDeeepEnd, our squirrel artwork is done by Modungoa Sebokholi and all episodes are produced and edited by me, Taylor D. After 11 years of murder, mystery, and mystifying crossword puzzles, we've come to the final season of Endeavour. This episode is from a live conversation our host, Jace Lacob, had with Morse himself — star, director and producer Shaun Evans — during PBS's virtual Endeavour event.
When it comes to "Rob", Jace Lacob of The Daily Beast described it as CBS's "worst new show" and wrote that it "offers a wafer-thin appreciation and awareness of Mexican culture". Robert Bianco of USA Today wrote "Some of this barrage of stereotypes might be passable if even one character were intelligently written and skillfully played". So with reviews like that clearly we needed to investigate. "Rob" stars SNL alumni Rob Schneider as a middle aged man who recently gets thrown into a world of Mexican-American culture after getting married to a woman in a tight-knit family. The show was created by Schneider and former Saturday Night Live writer, Lew Morton. Was this show as bad as advertised or was it not given a fair shot? Listen as we go back to 2012 to review Rob's pilot episode. www.S1E1POD.com Starring: Rob Schneider, Cheech Marin, Claudia Bassols, Diana Maria Riva, Lupe Ontiveros, Eugenio Derbez
Warning: This episode contains spoilers for Episode Four of Atlantic Crossing. The chance to play legendary American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one big reason for Kyle MacLachlan to sign on to Atlantic Crossing. But it was the story of the young Norwegian Royal Family at the heart of the miniseries that made him commit to the role. MacLachlan explores Roosevelt, Agent Dale Cooper and wine with lifelong Twin Peaks fan, MASTERPIECE Studio host Jace Lacob.
