From Norwich UK, the band has an impressive pedigree featuring members of UK punk bands Infa-Riot, Braindance and Special Duties.Their music is closest to the street punk genre with big singalong choruses, tinged with glam riffs, channeling their inner, Slade and Sweet influences. The band formed in June 2021 in an unmanned studio during the height of the Covid pandemic. A little known rule meant that it was perfectly legal to rehearse together but not to visit each other's homes for tea and biscuits. Strange times indeed. To date the band has released one single the ‘Peepshow EP' and a stellar album ‘Bit on the Side', both recorded at Perry Vale studios in London with legendary producer Pat Collier (Vibrators) Both releases showcase the bands high energy anthemic music which can be sourced digitally from Bandcamp, Spotify, YouTube Amazon and iTunes. The band has played shows with the likes of UK Subs, Evil Conduct, GBH, casualties, Cockney Rejects,Last Resort and the Drowns and have also played Rebellion Festival for the last three years, culminating in an impressive performance to a packed Club Casbah venue in 2024. They have ventured into mainland Europe e.g. Belgium and Germany playing at the sold out ‘Once a Punk Always a Punk' Festival in Belgium and the famous Don't Panic venue in Essen and have more shows in Europe in the pipeline. They have just started work on their new album “Second time around”.Have fun out there. Pop over to the website (www.onthehuh.org) it has lots of links to other bands stuff and venues as well as a link to an ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich.chin chin

Since the UK Supreme Court ruling clarifying the definition of woman in the Equality Act, trans activists have decided 'transmen' now matter and are using this tiny cohort of women to claim sex-based public toilet arrangements cannot work due to them as a 'gotcha' against the ruling. We discuss the features of the 'gotcha' and how each one fails. We also discuss the superficiality of transgenderism, how photos or TikTok's don't mean someone 'passes' in real life, Gendered Intelligence's lies to 'transmen', the trans to detrans to trans attention-grift arc, and transgenderism's fundamental relation to the Freudian / Lacanian concept of castration. Plus, we call for prosecutions for GBH and conspiracy to commit child abuse, how ‘bottom surgery' for ‘transmen' is the Western version of FGM, and how the gay third sector sold out gay people yet we're somehow meant to pretend we're a community.

Massachusetts has one of the oldest and most successful publicly run lottery systems in the country. It shouldn't surprise you that per adult, MA residents spend more on the lottery than any other state, by a wide margin. But if you dig into the numbers, the problems with the lottery system start to become visible - tickets are more likely to be bought by low-income people, and the revenue that's generated is not distributed fairly. On Say More this week, Shirley is joined by Ian Coss, host of the new 8-part GBH podcast Scratch and Win, to talk about the history, present, and future of the Mass Lottery. Also on the show is Esmy Jimenez, a Boston Globe reporter who covers the racial wealth gap. She has a recent investigation on who spends the most on the Mass Lottery and where the money goes.

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 6, 2025 30:00

How the scratch off lottery changed America

Americans spend more on scratch lottery tickets per year than on pizza. More than all Coca-Cola products. Yet the scratch ticket as a consumer item has only existed for fifty years. Not so long ago, the idea of an instant lottery, of gambling with a little sheet of paper, was strange. Scary, even. So, how did scratch lotteries go from an idea that states wanted nothing to do with, to a commonplace item? It started in a small, super-liberal, once-puritanical state: Massachusetts. Adults there now spend – on average – $1,037 every year on lottery tickets – mostly scratch tickets. On today's episode, a collaboration with GBH's podcast Scratch & Win, we hear the story of... the scratch-off lottery ticket! This episode was hosted by Ian Coss and Kenny Malone. Scratch & Win from GBH is produced by Isabel Hibbard and edited by Lacy Roberts. The executive producer is Devin Maverick Robins. Our version of the podcast was produced by James Sneed. An astonishing maritime painting depicting a 19th century yacht race was brought to GBH's Antiques Roadshow in Tampa, FL in 2005.  Although unsigned, the extraordinary depiction of billowing sails and light-reflected sea spray clearly pointed to the work of artist James Buttersworth and was valued at $250,000 to $500,000 – the caveat being that more research would be needed to definitively prove the artist's identity. Join host Adam Monahan as he speaks with art experts, museum curators and learns what public opinion revealed about the artist's true identity and whether the mystery has finally been resolved.
