When I first heard the quote, “The road to success is always under construction,” it landedin a deep way for me, because if I'm honest, my life has never felt finished. It has always feltlike a work zone. Cones out. Detours everywhere. Uneven pavement.I've had several moments in my life that felt like crossroads. Not small decisions. Biginternal shifts. The kind where you know something is changing, even if you don't fullyunderstand what yet.One of the visuals I use to understand my life is simple. I imagine myself sitting at a table, and on that table is a vase. That vase represents me. My identity. My sense of safety. Mybelief about who I am.
Pride isn't only for us humans. In some cases, it's a trait that even plagues the gods, well, false gods in this case. In this detour, we'll head into the southwest and to the far reaches of the galaxy through a wormhole to find where hubris gets you. Right, picture this. It's 2:30am. I've been bounced off half of Sydney's motorways on the way back from Albury-Wodonga, the NSW/VIC border, and I'm talking myself through a full-blown panic attack because, well, everyone else is asleep. ZzzzToday started as a quick meet and greet and hit top gear — strapping freight, riding in an Kenworth and remembering why I love the transport industry so much. I'm trying to build something that brings trucking and mental health together… and for most of the day, I felt real purpose and inspired. Then, I hit Sydney. First, the M7 shuts. No biggie, I keep on truckin'.Then, NorthConnex shuts. Just my luck. Roadworks everywhere. Detours through the back roads of the big smoke. Sleep? Not likely tonight. Now I'm picturing myself fronting up to an 8:30am meeting at the University, then a filmed interview I've been looking forward to all week, and an advisory group meeting (yep, big day) running on fumes — and the inner critic is LOUD. The anxiety is like THUNDER. Here comes the wave of dread. I just need to get back to Newcastle. Perfection or nothing.Don't stumble. You can't afford it. The stakes are too high So I go back to basics: name what I can see, breathe longer out than in, loosen the grip, label the task instead of the monster. The goal isn't to get rid of fear at 3am — it's to keep pointing northwards while it's yelling at you.By the time I get home, the panic's still there… but it's smaller. And it's not driving anymore. Thank God, neither am I. Now to sleep, I've got a big day coming up! -- Follow The Dysregulated Podcast: Instagram – @elliot.t.waters Facebook – The Dysregulated Podcast YouTube – The Dysregulated Podcast (Official Channel) Created by Elliot Waters — Inspired by lived experience. Once in a while, Sgt. Kevin Coates and Officer Larry Reynolds take a detour from the usual police discussions to talk with interesting people from around the community and in this episode, that detour happens to be delicious. Because after a shift, you don't need a citation. You need a meal!In this episode of Talk'n the Beat, the guys sit down with Chef Jared Bobkin, a two time Hell's Kitchen contestant who appeared on Season 15 and later returned for Season 17 All Stars. Jared shares what it was really like behind the scenes, what the experience taught him, and how it shaped the way he approaches the kitchen when the heat is on.They also talk about how he fell in love with cooking in the first place, and what he is juggling now, from guest chef work and local projects to launching his own food truck, The Dump Truck, where he specializes in Asian style dumplings. The guys brought their appetite to this one, and if you are up for an off course episode with plenty of laughs and a little kitchen chaos, we think you are going to eat this one up.Send Your Questions to Sgt. Coates and Officer Reynolds!Email us at ttb@sterlingheights.gov and your question may be used in an upcoming podcast episode.

How does a clear sense of purpose turn good intentions into faithful forward movement? In this episode of Money Made Faithful, John explores the vital connection between vision and mission, and how to align your plans and progress to where God is leading. Drawing from Scripture, practical wisdom, and the realities of life’s detours, John invites listeners to clarify their purpose, take intentional steps, and translate conviction into action. With tools like the SMART goal framework and the encouragement of trusted accountability, this conversation helps turn clear vision into faithful mission, movement and lasting progress. In this episode, John discusses: The importance of aligning mission with vision so financial goals move from intention to action Why clarity and alignment matter more than speed when taking faithful financial steps How SMART goals help translate vision into specific, actionable, and time-bound progress The role of accountability and “truth tellers” in staying focused and faithful Learning to adapt when circumstances change while staying committed to God’s greater plan Key Takeaways: Vision shows where God is leading, but mission determines how we faithfully walk toward that future, one intentional step at a time. Alignment brings clarity to decisions, even when the process feels uncomfortable or outside familiar patterns. SMART goals provide a practical framework for turning prayerful intention into measurable, courageous action. Sharing your mission with a trusted, faith-filled person strengthens accountability, invites prayer, and guards against drifting off course. Detours and obstacles do not cancel the vision; they refine it and teach us to remain faithful, flexible, and focused on God’s direction. “This mission step is that set of faithful and intentional actions & directions that connect today and the actions you're taking to the future God's inviting you into.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! For its 300th episode, Where Brains Meet Beauty highlights two women who prove that creative careers rarely follow a straight line. Celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist Sarai Martinez and influencer and UGC creator Tania Grover share how childhood dreams, unexpected pivots and sheer perseverance shaped the paths they are on today.Sarai always knew she wanted to be a hairstylist, even drafting a sixth grade project imagining her future salon career. But family expectations and finances pushed her into fashion school, then insurance work, then years of assisting in high-end Boston salons on late nights and little pay. Marriage, kids and discouraging mentors led to a long break before she rebuilt her confidence, found supportive leadership and stepped back into artistry full-time. Today she works with prestige clients, balances her “Sarai by Day” influencer presence and stays grounded by choosing collaboration over diva moments on set.Tania's journey started in high school with dance videos she posted “for fun” until brands began sliding into her DMs. Content creation followed her through college ambassador gigs, paid brand deals and internships she earned through her TikTok skills. Still, she keeps a full-time tech job that offers stability and flexibility while she builds her creator career. Her schedule is relentless - early mornings filming, editing during commutes, posting across multiple accounts but she thrives on the structure and maintains tight creative control, supported by a manager who handles negotiations. Both women talk openly about burnout, comparison, the pressure to constantly post and the often hidden emotional labor behind both artistry and influencing. Their shared message: trust your path, turn the detours into fuel, and don't underestimate the power of a “practical” job to give you freedom, options and the confidence to say no.

This week on Chocolate Cake Bytes, we're diving deep into the sweet (and sometimes complicated) process of repentance and forgiveness. Have you ever thought of repentance as a checklist or as a punishment for your mistakes? You're not alone—and we get real about these common detours on the road to true forgiveness. Join me and Justin as we unpack stories, both humorous and vulnerable, from our own lives and dig into what it really means to repent, forgive, and even ask for apologies. We wrestle with questions that might hit close to home, like: Is it possible to forgive when you never get an apology? What happens if you hurt someone and have no idea you did? And do we ever truly check all the boxes when we try to repair relationships—or does the process ask something deeper of us? Along the way, you'll hear about exploding bathroom firecrackers, awkward moments with Alexa, and the hilarious chaos that comes from trying to announce life-changing news to family. If you've ever struggled with guilt, humility, or letting go of a grudge, this episode invites you to consider repentance and forgiveness from a fresh, gospel-centered perspective. So, grab a slice of cake, settle in, and let's get honest about why the atonement—not just our own efforts—makes all the difference. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Inclement weather. Traffic snarls. Detours. Flights canceled. Roads closed. As the song goes, "Gee, the traffic is terrific". But it's always been that way. Just ask Joseph. And check with the Wise Men. There will be changes to our plans and detours in the year ahead. However, one thing is certain through it all. With the birth of Jesus, Immanuel, we can take heart and look ahead with confidence – God is with us.
Country artist Chris Lane joins Brooke Taylor on The Upload for a candid, faith-filled conversation about the unexpected injuries, detours, and divine redirection that shaped his life long before music stardom. Chris opens up about tearing his ACL in high school—and again in college—an experience that sidelined his dreams of playing sports but sparked a life-changing relationship with the Lord. What felt like devastation at the time became the quiet space God used to draw him close, heal his heart, and prepare him for a future he couldn’t yet see. Now a husband, dad, and touring musician, Chris shares honestly about this new season where his time feels “wrecked”—changing diapers at home, performing on the road, and fighting to keep Jesus at the center of it all. He talks about the conviction he feels to carve out time with God, how fatherhood has deepened his understanding of Christ’s love, and how marriage wasn’t even on his radar until he met his wife, Lauren. Their shared faith became the foundation of their relationship—especially significant given Lauren’s upbringing in Portland, one of the least churched major cities in America. Chris also gets real about navigating fame in an industry that can inflate the ego. He talks about praying for humility, wanting success but not at the cost of his walk with Christ, and the ways God is teaching him patience in every area of life.
Today's episode is an expert visit with leadership coach, author, and podcast host Heather Chauvin about navigating life's unexpected detours, especially the ones that knock the wind out of you and make you question everything. Heather shares how her stage 4 cancer diagnosis reshaped the way she thinks about “resilience,” why so many capable, responsible women end up running on fumes, and what it looks like to stop powering through and start rebuilding your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual resources from the inside out. We talk about the shame that can come with feeling tired, how to notice the moment right before you react (so you can respond differently over time), and simple, grounding questions like “How do I want to feel?” that can become a roadmap when life gets messy. Note: This is a special release of an expert conversation held inside the Differently Wired Club. Enjoy! About Heather Heather Chauvin is a leadership coach who helps ‘successful' women courageously and authentically live, work, and parent on their own terms. Heather started her career as a social worker helping adults understand children's behavior. But it wasn't until 2013 when a stage 4 cancer diagnosis pushed her to take a deeper stand for change, uncovering how cultural expectations sabotage our dreams. She has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Real Simple Magazine, Mind Body Green, Google, and more. When Heather isn't working, you will find her living out what she teaches which may include kayaking Alaska, snowboarding, hiking, or anything else that challenges what she believes is possible for herself (and inviting her children along the journey). Life is full of opportunities. It's time to feel alive. Key Takeaways Why resilience isn't about powering through—and how numbing and over-functioning can quietly turn into fatigue and shame How starting with the question “How do I want to feel?” helps parents make more aligned, sustainable choices Why fatigue carries important information and how getting curious instead of judgmental can shift everything How noticing your yellow zone before reacting builds awareness and more connected responses over time Why detours and uncertainty often become powerful identity work, revealing where growth and change are being invited How practicing small, intentional “tiny pushes” can help parents move toward the version of themselves they're becoming Learn more about your ad choices. Insurance headaches. Churches and private organizations, once reliable voting sites, are pulling out, according to Elections Supervisor Zach Manifold. Manifold shared the news during a meeting with Gwinnett’s state lawmakers, where elections and public safety took center stage. Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson emphasized collaboration: “When local and state leaders work together, we serve our residents better.” On the safety side, Police Chief J.D. McClure highlighted staffing gains and a futuristic twist—drones as “first eyes” on crime scenes. Progress, but challenges remain. STORY 2: Brookwood High selected to participate in the GaDOE Gifted in Action series Brookwood High just got a big nod from the Georgia Department of Education—it’s been featured in the GaDOE Gifted in Action series, a webinar collection for educators working with gifted and talented students. Eric Rovie’s AP Literature and Language classes were in the spotlight, with the GaDOE team recording his students in action. Rovie’s approach? Open discussions, tough questions, and a classroom built on trust. Masino summed it up: “When our businesses thrive, so does our region.” Winners spanned 10 categories, from Spectrum Autism Support Group (Community Contributor) to iS3 Tech Services’ Adam Hammock (Founder Award). Detours are in place, but, yeah, plan extra time. Other spots with intermittent lane closures include **Beaver Ruin Road**, **Sugarloaf Parkway**, and **Rockbridge Road**—plus about 30 more. The story? Monty Navarro, a broke clerk, discovers he’s ninth in line to inherit a fancy title and fortune. His solution? Start “removing” the D’Ysquith family members ahead of him. Now, here is Shane Delancey the Director of the Christmas Tradition at the Strand Theatre - Shane Delancey - Break 3: THE STRAND HOLIDAY STORY 6: Mill Creek Grad Holden Cammarata Runs 100-Mile Day for Williams Syndrome Holden Cammarata had a wild dream—run 100 miles in a single day. Not a marathon, not two, but *four*. The 2025 Mill Creek grad and Georgia Tech freshman had always pushed himself, running cross country in high school and now with Georgia Tech’s club team. But this? This was next level. “It’s a big jump,” he admitted. “With my foot surgery coming up, I figured this might be my last shot.” But Holden didn’t just run for himself. He ran for Molly Kate Cloer, the little sister of his high school teammate Tyler, who has Williams Syndrome. Inspired by their family, he turned his grueling goal into a fundraiser, raising over $8,000 for the cause. The run itself? Brutal. By mile 60, his injured foot was screaming. By mile 80, the park closed, forcing him to finish in a church parking lot. Every step hurt. But his parents, old teammates, and even strangers showed up to cheer him on, some running alongside him. After 25 hours, 33 minutes, and 32 seconds, Holden crossed the finish line—exhausted, in pain, but surrounded by love. STORY 7: Northside Hospital Gwinnett named one of nation's best for maternity care Northside Hospital Gwinnett just got some big news—it’s officially one of the best places in the country to have a baby, according to *U.S. News & World Report*. The hospital earned a “High Performing” rating for maternity care, putting it in the top 10% nationwide for uncomplicated pregnancies. Pretty impressive, right? Last year alone, they delivered 4,245 babies. Northside Gwinnett also scored high marks in 15 other areas, from heart surgery to stroke care. When you’re here, you’re family. What if the detours in your life weren't delays but divine direction? In this season finale episode of Let It B, I reflect on how Romans 8:28 has been the foundation and recurring theme of my life. What once felt like setbacks, interruptions, and unanswered prayers were actually the very things God was using to strengthen my faith, refine my character, and realign my trust in Him. In this vulnerable conversation, I open up about the many detours I've traveled, the moments where I almost didn't make it through the season, times I felt abandoned by people I thought would walk with me, and seasons where I came close to giving up altogether. I share how I had to move out of my own place, return to living with family, and wrestle with disappointment, uncertainty, and doubt. Yet through it all, God remained faithful. This episode explores why God allows detours, the value of staying present in the season you're in, and how learning to appreciate where you are often unlocks what's next. Drawing from the story of Joseph, I reflect on how every detour prepared him for the promise and how God is often equipping us for something we cannot yet see. You'll be reminded that God cares more about the posture of your heart than what you produce, that His promises will always come to pass, and that whether we get to participate in them often depends on our obedience and willingness to trust Him. The narrow gate isn't easy but it leads to life. This reflective episode is for anyone who can't yet see how everything will work together for good. It's an invitation to look back, recognize where God has been, steward the season you're in well, and keep pursuing Him with faith. God is a way maker, a promise keeper, and proof that nothing absolutely nothing was wasted. In this episode, we sit down with Hannah Kurtz, a pastor's wife, homeschool mama, and soon-to-be mom of six, to share the twists and turns of her family's ministry journey. Hannah and her husband, Thor, began full-time ministry in 2017, eventually following a mission-trip “divine detour” to Lincoln, Illinois, where Thor now serves as the youth pastor at Open Arms.Hannah opens up about their transition to a new church—including the unique challenge of living on a college campus in the middle of being converted into their church campus. She shares honestly about grieving the move, navigating ministry on unfamiliar ground, and the quiet emotional weight pastors' wives often carry. With humor (yes, Thor collects strange items just to scare people), warmth, and deep faith, Hannah talks about community support, prayer, and the unexpected joy of watching God's provision—like her son praying for a baby brother before they even knew one was coming. Her story is full of resilience, hope, and the reminder that ministry transitions are hard… but never walked alone.Key TakeawaysA mission trip led them to an unexpected new calling in Lincoln, IL.They lived on a college campus while it was being transformed into the church campus.Transitioning to a new church brought emotional challenges and grief.Community support is essential for pastors and their families.Prayer played a major role in their family's story—from ministry decisions to a son praying for a baby brother.Having a strong network of pastors' wives makes all the difference.God's faithfulness is evident in every twist, detour, and new beginning.Get all the info about our next pastors' wives retreat and apply here:https://www.pastorswivestellall.com/attendaretreatTo purchase the BOOK, head here: https://pastorswivestellall.com/bookTo shop our MERCH, head here: https://pastorswivestellall.com/shopWant to support the Pastors' Wives Tell All podcast ministry? The Arizona Trail Race is a massive undertaking for any rider — rocky singletrack, long stretches of hike-a-bike, and a full bike portage through the Grand Canyon. It's an especially bold choice for your first bikepacking race. This week, Detours listener Kara Woolgar joins the show after finishing the AZT DFL, a result she's genuinely proud of (and we are too!!). Kara describes herself as fun sized, which means she's had to get creative with packing on an extra-small frame. She also has a long list of food allergies, making resupply on the trail uniquely challenging. In our conversation, Kara shares how she got into bikepacking, how she built confidence through local rides and overnighters, and what it was like to spend 17 days working her way up the state of Arizona. From near race-ending blisters to a heartwarming note left for her in a hiking ledger, Kara shares all about her ride at the back of the pack. Her powerful new book, Detours, is available for pre-order now and officially releases December 16th. Retired CBSLA investigative reporter David Goldstein checked in, sharing how life after the newsroom is going and reflecting on the high cost and intense pressure that come with investigative journalism. Many in the city still miss reporters of his caliber. A deeply troubling trend is emerging: more cases of sons killing their parents, raising serious concern among authorities and communities. On a lighter note, Tim Cates from AM 570 Sports stopped by on his way to Disneyland for the company holiday party. And officials confirmed that the 5.9 Nevada earthquake alert was a false alarm, causing confusion but thankfully no real danger.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
One of my favorite quotes from Gabby Bernstein is, “obstacles are detours in the right direction.” Obstacles are your opportunities to alchemize challenges into blessings. Pain into purpose. Fear into faith. I explain how to use your obstacles to achieve all of this through personal experiences and stories. Sometimes the most meaningful parts of our creative journey are the detours — the moments when we think we've failed or lost our way, only to realize we've discovered something new. Like a labyrinth, life guides us toward the next best thing, often better than we could have imagined. In this episode, host Ekaterina (Kat) Popova sits down with Nishant Jain, also known as The Sneaky Artist, to talk about curiosity, permission, and finding beauty in the everyday. Nishant shares how writer's block led him to a thriving art practice, how he built a loyal global community through Substack, and why keeping secrets and creating privately can reignite your passion. If you've ever questioned your creative direction or struggled to share your art meaningfully in the digital age, this conversation will remind you that detours are destiny — and that creativity doesn't have to be loud to be powerful.
