Today, SEIU Healthcare, the union representing more than 60,000 Ontario healthcare workers working at privately owned long-term care facilities and nursing homes, is calling on the Ford Government to put resident care ahead of profits. The Union, is pushing for private long-term care facilities to invest more money into staffing. SEIU Healthcare President, Sharleen Stewart, is asking the Ford government to support this increase in funding. The union says that under-staffing is an issue that reduces the quality of care that seniors are receiving in private long-term care facilities. At this point in time, the SEIU is preparing to bargain with the companies that own these homes to ensure that more funding does go towards staff.
