Myf and Zan are back after a break and catching up on the last two weeks of music, art, life and stuff. A lot has happened. Split ups, bears in Japan, brush-turkeys at Myf's house… The writers strike has ended too, but one star broke early and the backlash against Drew Barrymore's decision to return to work has been sizeable. Meanwhile Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner has decided that if you're not male or white you're not a master, and all those covers and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame history is starting to make sense. One of the biggest stories of the past fortnight has been the allegations against Russell Brand. We take a look at the media culture, and complicity, surrounding it all. And the reason women often stay silent. And it's September which means FARSHUN. We take you to Venice where people are wearing undies (and not much else), and a wild show at Milan Fashion Week which is more a statement than a collection. In related news, Zan is banging on about The Super Models docu-series and Myf is watching HBO doco Telemarketers. In October 1992, 12-year-old Rhianna Barreau disappeared. On the day she went missing it was school holidays, and Rhianna had spent the morning wandering to the local shops to buy her American pen pal a Christmas card. When her mother got home at 4pm, expecting to find Rhianna, she was nowhere to be found. It's one of South Australia's most enduring cold cases. Her disappearance didn't just change the lives of her family, it changed her community and the streets of Adelaide forever. On the weekend, a friend of the pod was sitting in a pub owned by Britain's biggest pub company, Stonegate Group. If you have ever drunk in a pub in the UK there is a good chance it may have been Stonegate Group - their brands include Yates's, Be at one, and the Slug & Lettuce, they have over 800 venues. Recently, they've introduced a ‘dynamic pricing' policy across all their locations. Think of it like ‘surge pricing', it basically means the cost of drinking will go up at popular times. It's pretty straight forward, the surge pricing system will kick in when the pubs are at their busiest hours and could see drinks prices going up by 20 pence which is roughly 35 cent. Prices will return to normal at less popular times. Today Simon and Sascha look at the new adopters of dynamic pricing, and ask - will we ever pay the same again? Want more Equity Mates? Click here. For the last two days our news feeds have been filled with nothing but pictures and videos of Taylor Swift and her 'new beau' Travis Kelce. Rumours about their alleged romance have been bubbling away for a few weeks now, but they reached boiling point with her attending his football match on Sunday. It's the latest in a string of moves from Taylor Swift that feels awfully familiar. Things she was basically cancelled for back in 2014. So it begs the question why are people loving it so much now in 2023? THE END BITS Subscribe to Mamamia GET IN TOUCH: Feedback? We're listening. Build, build and build some more. That sums up our government's approach to our current housing crisis. Just this month we've seen it from all levels of government. At a Federal Level, we've seen the government pass the Housing Australia Future Fund. At a state level, we've seen Australia's biggest state - New South Wales - pass a budget with housing at the centre. And Australia's second largest state - Victoria - released their housing policy statement that outlined a 10 year plan for the industry. But here's the thing - housing experts almost unanimously agree: we can't build our way out of this housing crisis. Today Sascha and Alec ask - when will there be enough houses for them to afford one? Want more Equity Mates? Click here. Yesterday Sophie Turner just about broke the internet when she was photographed in New York, arm-in-arm Taylor Swift (AKA her ex-husbands ex-girlfriend). People are calling it ‘the greatest PR move of all time', but our host Laura doesn't necessarily agree. Today we examine the photos and whether they prove that Joe Jonas' PR campaign against Sophie failed. THE END BITS Subscribe to Mamamia GET IN TOUCH: Feedback? We're listening. This week: Christopher Caldwell writes The Spectator's cover piece on Italy's new wave of migrants. This is in light of the situation in Lampedusa which he argues could upend European politics. Chris joins the podcast alongside Amy Kazmin, Rome correspondent at the Financial Times, to debate Europe's escalating migrant crisis. (01:23) Also this week: In his column, Matthew Parris writes about Australia's Voice vote, a yes/no referendum being held on whether to establish a new body which will advise parliament on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a source of real controversy in the country, and Alexander Downer – former Australian minister for foreign affairs and leader of the Liberal Party between 1994 and 1995 – joins Matthew to discuss. (16:07) And finally: why do some Churches rise and others fall? In the magazine, journalist Dan Hitchens writes a tale of two churches by comparing the fastest growing – Elim Pentecostal church – and the fastest shrinking church in the UK – United Reformed church. He is joined by Revd Marcus Walker, Rector of the Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great, London. (31:29) Hosted by William Moore. Produced by Oscar Edmondson.

In September 1988 a campaign of terror was unleashed upon Perth's Chinese community through a series of targeted firebombings that decimated a number of restaurants around the city. The motive behind the attacks was impossible to ignore, but it would take a drastic escalation of violence for WA police to start taking the firebombs seriously. Once they finally started to piece the crimes together and close in on the culprits, police realised they'd happened upon a plot in the making that was a lot more sinister than the destroying of restaurants. The Kardashian's have built themselves a mighty media empire, but according to an upcoming documentary it could all be about to crumble with the show claiming to have 'never-before-seen footage that the famous family don't want people to see'. Now I know what you're thinking: 'We've literally seen one of these gals pull a child out of herself in a birthing suite, surely we've seen everything there is to see?' Well that's what we're going to discuss today. What we know for sure though is that this is the first real time the Kardashians haven't been 100% in control of telling their own story... Last week we saw the biggest news on Apple's calendar - Apple's announcement of the new iPhone. There was a time when the world sat up and marvelled at what Steve Jobs and his team had managed to squeeze into the palm of our hand, but now it is a pretty routine update - new colour, better camera, faster chip - then they wave us all goodbye and set the date in the calendar for next year. Today Alec and Sascha ask - after the rounds of headlines announcing the iPhone 15 last week - does anybody really care? Want more Equity Mates? Click here. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is motivated by love and hope, lessons he learnt from his single mum Maryanne growing up in a council house in Sydney. It was from Maryanne that he also learned the values of social justice and fairness, always fighting for what he believes. In this episode Jess and the PM dig deep on how he came to terms with the end of his marriage before finding happiness again with his partner Jodie, why almost losing his life in a car accident left him more damaged than he let on and changed the way he does politics, and the surprising reason why being a Prime Minister isn't as stressful for him as you might think. ‘Albo' also opens up about being an emotional guy, and how it feels when he's personally attacked for doing his job, including his passion for The Voice referendum and why a YES vote is so important. As he explains on October 14 you are not going to be asked to vote for a political party or for a person, you're being asked to vote for an idea. To say YES to an invitation that comes directly from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people themselves.
