In this episode, we're joined by the fearless Ann Whatmore, an adventurer who proves that asthma doesn't have to set limits on what you can achieve. Ann has faced numerous health challenges, but rather than letting them hold her back, she's embraced adventure in a big way. In May 2024, she cycled over 3,000km across the UK on her recumbent e-trike, “Bob,” completing a solo journey from Land's End to Orkney before speaking at Yestival. This was no easy feat – Ann had only a sixth of her lung function available and had to rely on determination, resourcefulness, and a supportive community to make the journey possible. In this episode, Ann shares how she turned her dream into reality, navigating the ups and downs of planning such a massive adventure. She talks about the emotional and physical struggles of living with asthma, how she managed her condition on the road, and the lessons she learned along the way. Whether you're living with a chronic condition, longing for adventure, or simply looking for inspiration to push through your own barriers, Ann's story is one you won't want to miss. Tune in to hear how Ann turned her “limitations” into an opportunity for growth and exploration, proving that the only true limits are the ones we place on ourselves. Running 44@60 Podcast - plotting Trevor Lee's journey to the 2021 44 mile Cornwall Classic Quarter
If you're wondering why this episode is called thank you and good night it is because it is the final episode.I've had an absolute fantastic time. I've met some incredible people hosting this podcast since it first started in August 2019 not just as guests but as listeners and also at all the runs I've taken part in. It was only meant to help me complete the Classic Quarter which I did in May 2021 so it should've finished over 3 1/2 years ago .But here we are at episode number 173 and of course it was almost by sheer chance that this whole journey started.Back in February 2019 I was invited to speak at a business conference. The headline speaker was a guy called Jim Lawless who talked about a concept he had created called TamingTigers which essentially was about setting yourself challenges way beyond your comfort zone.Whilst listening to Jim, I was conscious that I was just over two years away from a landmark birthday for which I had been thinking about running a third career marathon, the previous two being in 2005 and 2010. Listening to Jim I realised that wasn't a Taming Tigers enough challenge. For some reason the name Classic Quarter popped up into my head and I looked it up over lunchtime to discover that it was a coastal path run from Lizard Point, which is relatively close to where I was living when my children were growing up, to Lands End. Undoubtedly the Taming Tigers bit was discovering it was 44 miles!I started calling the challenge 44 at 60 and as I already had a business podcast I decided that the best way to learn how to take on this challenge was to start a podcast so I could record all the great advice I knew I would be given. The first episode which was basically an introduction episode went live in August 2019, with episode two being my first ever coastal path race - the White Rat. My first guest was the fabulous Andy Goundry who told me ultrarunning was an eating competition not a running competition and to make sure that I walked up all the hills in the race, but to run up all of them in training and keep smiling! Without doubt this podcast was a massive factor in achieving my goal of finishing the Classic Quarter and along the way raising over £7000 for the children's hospice Southwest and postrace writing the book 12 business lessons from running an ultra marathon. So many fantastic guests, so many great running adventures and so many great running community friends. I feel very privileged to have been able to do this. Thank you everyone - it's been a blast! Send us a textThe Running 44@60 podcast began as a learning / motivational tool for host Trevor Lee in his quest to run a first ever ultra - the Classic Quarter in 2021 - here's the story of Running 44@60 The first episode was broadcast in August 2019. The final episode - number 173 - went out on January 31st 2025.Trevor wrote a book on the back of the Classic Quarter: 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon - all proceeds go to the Children's Hospice South West

June 23, 1997. San Francisco, California. After completing her shift at a coffee shop at the Crocker Galleria, 18-year old Kristen Modafferi vanishes without a trace. Even though co-workers report seeing Kristen with a blonde woman at the mall, this woman is never identified, and a police bloodhound tracks Kristen's scent to the edge of the Pacific Ocean at Lands End over six miles away. Weeks later, a man named Jon Onuma phones in a fake tip in which he falsely accuses two women of murdering Kristen, but even though Onuma does a number of suspicious things and multiple women accuse him of abuse, no conclusive evidence can be found to link him to Kristen's disappearance. Was Kristen Modafferi harmed by Jon Onuma? If not, then how did she wind up going missing? As a teacher, a parent of bilingual kids & a yoga instructor/social emotional learner facilitator and holistic health & wellness coach, Vanessa wants to encourage children to thrive through establishing daily health habits.Healthy Habits = Happy KidsWhile listening, kids learn techniques to increase their creativity and attention spans. By practicing mindfulness, breathing, & gratitude kids experience mini-moments of deep rest that help them to reset, restore and recalibrate. In today's busy world of multi-tasking, BBB is a place to help kids get centered, grounded and feel good. By practicing techniques learned here, kids develop their own self-care rituals, routines and habits. These tools benefit their mind, body and heart health and set them up for greater joy in their present lives, and as adults. So that kids aren't the only ones reaping these benefits, Vanessa has also included meditations specifically for older teens or adults! Hi all! It's been nearly a year now since the last episode of The Wildlife Garden Podcast. We've had a lot to deal with in our personal lives so it has had to take a back seat. Ellie and I (Ben) are no longer working together, but Ellie is still going strong with her business, Ellies Wellies Organic Gardening.Although we've headed our separate ways, we've decided that we really want to keep the podcast going. You'll have a little longer to wait, but we will return this summer for a new series! If there are any topics you want us to cover, let us know. You can always contact us via the comments on Substack or email us at hello@wildlifegardenpod.com.Over the next few months I will be walking around 1,400 miles from the tip of Scotland at John O'Groats, right down to the furthest reaches of Cornwall at Lands End. Wish me luck with the weather and I hope to make some interesting botanical sightings along the way.Ellie is having an adventure of her own. As a Francophile, two weeks wildlife spotting around the French countryside can't get much better, that's if she finds time amongst drinking wine and eating cheese! She is particularly looking forward to her stay at Le Moulin De Pensol in the Limousin area near Limoges. With 8 hectares of rewilded land, they have an amazing array of wildlife. The Tiger Tamer who went to sea, from HistoryExtra, is the story of one remarkable Victorian man who lived the life of a dozen men. His adventures as a global seafarer and as a circus clown, showman and yes, tiger tamer would be fascinating enough. However, he was also a celebrated athlete, and Britain's original long-distance wheelbarrow pedestrian. He pushed a wheelbarrow from Lands End to John O'Groats in 1879 but sadly missed the great wheelbarrow craze of 1887 because he was sailing the high seas. In this six-part series, David Musgrove reveals the untold story of this Victorian influencer, Bob Carlisle, and chats to a range of experts to find out what his life tells us about broader themes in 19th and early 20th century history – we cover the rise of mass media, the Temperance movement, enterainment and celebrity culture, the changing face of global trade and technology, the Edwardian healthy living movement, and yes, the noble sport of wheelbarrow-pushing. “On 5th September 2022, full of excitement for what lay ahead, I began my run from Land's End to John O'Groats to show others that despite life throwing curveballs our way we can still achieve. I intended to cover a distance of 40-50 miles a day for 20 days, a total of approximately 855 miles, aiming to become the world's fastest female, with single-sided deafness, to complete this journey by foot. However, after 4 days of running in continual torrential rain, things went very wrong on day 5." During this episode Sara shares more about her run from Lands End to John O'Groats, the challenges, the setbacks and how she moved forward after failure. We discuss in detail her recovery, the changes she made and how she moved forward and tried again. This is an episode about endurance running, passion for making a difference and never giving up. Sara is a brain tumour survivor who is giving back. “Brain tumours kill more adults and children under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease.” Sara is fundraising for British Acoustic Neuroma Association and Manchester Skull Base Foundation (FBT). Sara is also the founder of: The Beyond Recovery Project. “It's all about bringing together others on the same or similar journey, creating a ‘safe' space and sense of community, where brain tumour survivors can share experiences and discover how to push beyond the physical and psychological barriers they face together. It's very much nature based, so walks, hikes, challenges. Lots of talking therapy - because you can't beat sharing what you're going through with someone else who has been in that place. It also aims to bridge the gap in some services post treatment, when you're considered ‘fixed'.” Upcoming events in 2024 May - Toubkal with a group of brain tumour survivors June - Hiking the Langtang valley, Nepal. September - The Wadi Rum Ultra (now known as Ultra X Jordan). 220km over 5 days in the Wadi Rum desert. We first spoke with Sara: 15th March 2022 - Overcome fear and achieve your potential.
