While you might not label yourself as a feminist, most of my listeners believe in the value of equality. And that means that some traditional wedding customs definitely don't sit well with you. But your wedding doesn't have to be all or nothing, and this episode is going to show you exactly how to make it yours. My guest, Synclaire Warren, is a Gender Equity Leader, Key Note Speaker, and bride-to-be, who's planning her very own wedding for this September. And when she announced her engagement online, many people commented that she was a sellout. A fake. That she was perpetuating a patriarchal institution. So today we are talking about what it actually looks like to hold strong values and still want a beautiful wedding. How to choose your own adventure when every tradition comes loaded with history and reflects a different era. And how you, whether you're getting married or not, can live by what you believe without turning every dinner conversation into a debate.RESOURCESSynclaire Warren on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/synclaire.warren/www.synclairewarren.comVow for Girls: https://vowforgirls.org/Send Unbridely a 90-second audio message on Speakpipe: https://www.speakpipe.com/unbridelypodcast*The Unbridely Podcast is sponsored by its listeners. You’ll want to send this episode to every friend who casually drops the phrase "I'm so depressed" when they're just having a bad day, or anyone trying to figure out where normal sadness ends and something much heavier begins. Have you noticed how casually we throw around major mental health terms over coffee, accidentally minimizing a condition that deeply impacts both the brain and the body? In this episode of But Are You Happy?, host Ashani Dante sits down with clinical psychologist Julie Chapman to explore the complex reality of depression. We go beyond the casual slang to uncover what it truly means. Together, they discuss the danger of casual language and why confusing ordinary sadness with a clinical episode does a disservice to both. Julie breaks down why depression looks completely different from the outside depending on who is experiencing it, meaning those closest to you might only ever see the tiniest cracks. They look at how a major life shift, like a relationship breakdown or having children, can shatter the protective people-pleasing structures keeping our underlying pain at bay, while confronting the physical reality of mental illness to dismantle the myth that we are just heads on sticks. The conversation also explores the relationship between our minds and bodies, challenging common assumptions about what a depressive episode looks like and offering practical insights into recognising a system failure before the spiral takes over. "When are you getting married?" It's the question Georgie Tunny and Rob Mills get asked more than any other. Closely followed by: "What about babies?" After seven years together and four years engaged, the couple sit down with Kate Langbroek to talk about the future they're building together, why they're in no rush to follow anyone else's timeline, and the DM that started it all. From Georgie leaving Rob on read for months to the first coffee date that changed everything, this conversation is full of the stories you've probably never heard before. They talk about ambition, career setbacks, long engagements, mental health, life in the spotlight, Georgie's debut novel Over To You, Rob's dream role in Waitress, and why the Paris Hilton chapter of his life is one they're both quite happy to laugh about now. Mostly, though, this feels less like an interview and more like sitting at a table with three friends catching up on all the gossip. Georgie Tunny's debut novel, Over To You is available now. See Rob in Waitress, now playing in Melbourne and heading to Sydney in August. Have you ever dreamt of packing up your family and escaping to the country? Former AFL player Buddy Franklin and his wife Jesinta have ditched the big city for something a little... quieter. Monz, Amelia and Stacey are unpacking whether it’s possible to completely reinvent your family life. Plus, Stacey explains her 'Florist Theory.’ Also, there’s a new solution for parenting exhaustion that involves dividing household duties differently, and we’re trying to decide if it’s genius, or not all it’s cracked up to be. And, what about the ‘double drop-off’? First it was ponytails and pints and now it’s pints and periods. British dads are going to the pub to learn more about periods and how to show up for their daughters. Monz has thoughts, but honestly? We think it’s kind of wholesome. Reccos: Stacey is loving Office Romance on Netflix. Amelia recommends the Micador Junior Colour Wash Repeat Tablecloth, a $27 lifesaver that keeps kids calm and centred during family dinners or chaotic parties. Monique is loving buying cheap silicone ear putty from the chemist to turn down the volume on sensory overload at deafening basketball stadiums and supermarkets. In this episode, Liz Ellis sits down with author, athlete, coach and entrepreneur Turia Pitt. Known across Australia as a beacon of fierce resilience, Turia reveals a candid, hilariously unfiltered side of herself as she opens up about the chaotic reality of parenting two young boys while running a business. She shares how she had to unlearn her hyper-competitive athlete mindset to survive the daily grind, diving into a period of severe burnout that led her to seek therapy and discover the magic of asking herself, "What's going to make this day a little bit easier?" The conversation also explores her heritage, reflecting on growing up with a Tahitian mother whose home-cooked fish, rice, and lentils were decades ahead of the trend, alongside a raw look back at her Ironman days when toxic societal pressures forced her to under-fuel her body. From raw-dogging chia seeds to her controversial morning "badass coffee" routine, this chat is a funny, reassuring look at learning to let yourself off the hook. What if the plastic container you're heating your leftover lunch in is actively rewriting your hormones? Environmental chemist Dr Paul Harvey unpacks the terrifying reality of microplastics, explaining how these tiny particles act like "micro knives," physically scratching our delicate gut lining and leaching creepy, hormone-disrupting chemicals into our system. Food scientist Dr Emma Beckett also weighs in, offering a much-needed reality check on balancing plastic panic with actual food safety. Then, we dive into "matressence," the massive, identity-shifting transition into motherhood. It turns out "baby brain" isn't a myth or a social media trend; real neuroimaging shows a mother's brain structurally prunes its grey matter to specialise for a baby, right as estrogen and progesterone drop off a perimenopause-level cliff. In this week's episode, we discuss the mental health needs of people with complex communication support needs (CCN). We speak with Nerida Kho, speech pathologist, and Connor Bryant, counsellor, both from CEQ about what they have learned while supporting the unmet mental health needs of people with CCN. They speak about the challenges of adapting complex concepts, like emotions into multimodal communication systems, and the benefits and outcomes reported by the participants. Speech Pathology Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of lands, seas and waters throughout Australia, and offers our respect to Elders, across all times and places. The Speak Up podcast recognises the central role of yarning and oral storytelling in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, how this translates to knowledge translation, and that colonisation has interrupted these practices of Language and knowledge sharing. The Speak Up podcast acknowledges the need for truth-telling and deep listening, the central role that Language plays in connecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People with Culture, Country, and Community, and the interwoven nature of health, and social and emotional wellbeing. We recognise that the Traditional Owners of the Lands across Australia have been here since time immemorial, and that their sovereignty over this land, was never ceded. And the oversharing hangover is real. SUBSCRIBE to Mamamia and never miss a word of Out Loud. Plus get access to every story and our exercise app, MOVE. Mia, Holly and Em are unpacking the sometimes brutal backlash of ‘going viral’ over a deeply personal moment and the slightly awkward nightmare of your family and friends reading about your business online. Grace Rouvray thought she knew what grief was. Then her best friend Katie died. In this deeply moving conversation with Holly Wainwright, Grace shares the story behind her memoir Is It Too Early To Bitch? — a love letter to the friendship that shaped her life, and the devastating loss that changed it forever. Grace and Katie met at drama school in 2009 and quickly became inseparable. Through awkward share houses, terrible dates, career highs, creative projects and countless late-night phone calls, they became each other's person. The kind of friendship that can feel every bit as profound, intimate and life-defining as a romantic relationship. Then, in 2021, Katie died suddenly at just 34 years old. Grace reflects on navigating unimaginable grief during lockdown, what it means to lose the person who knows you best, and the unexpected ways loss reshaped her understanding of friendship, family and herself. This episode explores the bond between female friends, the reality of life after loss, and why some of the greatest love stories aren't romantic at all. Being busy feels productive. It feels safe. It feels like proof that you're working hard. But what if all that busyness is actually stopping you from creating real value at work? In this episode, Lisa and Em unpack why so many of us default to being busy when work feels uncertain, overwhelming or unclear. From colour-coding documents and endlessly refining presentations to filling our days with low-stakes tasks, they explore the psychology behind why being busy feels so good... And some of the things you're doing you didn't know fall into this category. Lisa explains why the workplace has shifted, what leaders are actually rewarding now, and the practical ways you can become more valuable without simply doing more. What you'll learn: • Why being busy and being valuable are no longer the same thing • The three psychological traps that keep high performers stuck in "busy work" • Why busyness can become a safety net that stops you taking meaningful risks • The behaviours that are increasingly rewarded in modern workplaces • How to communicate your thinking, not just your output Our BIZ hosts are Lisa Lie - a former Head of People & Culture and Organisational Coach - and Mamamia’s Em Vernem. You might have arranged an unplugged ceremony, but what about the other 8 to 18 hours of your wedding day when it's entirely up to your guests as to whether they take photos or video. While many couples don't mind what's captured, they often do care about what's posted to social media, who gets tagged, and when. Today I'm tackling the stuff the unplugged ceremony conversation never touches: spoilers, livestream complications, ex-partners, tricky family dynamics, children being posted without consent and more. You'll also learn about what one of my couples did this year when they realised that no amount of planning was going to guarantee that their wedding day was going to be what they wanted and why it might be the most brilliant and useful mindset shift of the entire almost 4 years of the Unbridely podcast. Dr Jeni Haynes survived years of horrific abuse by creating what she describes as 2,682 personalities — voices and protectors who helped carry trauma, fear, and survival. In 2019, she became the first person in Australian legal history to have those personalities accepted as evidence in a criminal trial against her father. Now the subject of the documentary We Are Jeni, Jeni joins Kate Langbroek for an extraordinary conversation about trauma, memory, resilience, and survival. We Are Jeni premieres on Sunday 7 June 2026 at 7:30 PM on SBS or stream on SBS On Demand. Are Australian parents okay? If you're finding parenting deeply exhausting, a study has found you're not the only one. Monique Bowley, Amelia Lester and Stacey Hicks are unpacking why parents are feeling so stressed out. Plus, Stacey has a theory that might just be genius. Also, are you constantly saying sorry for your kids just being...kids? We're discussing why we feel the need to apologise all the time and what it might actually be teaching them. Plus, whimsical grandparent names. Everyone is now 'Mimi' and 'Zaza' instead of 'Nanna' and 'Pop'. We discuss whether this new trend is just an act of rebellion from Baby Boomers who flatly refuse to grow old.Reccos: Stacey is loving Sea Monkeys, bringing back pure 90s nostalgia for an entry-level pet experiment. Sally Hepworth is one of Australia’s most successful and best-loved authors. Her novels are regularly top bestseller lists around the world. She’s known for writing darkly funny, page-turning stories about marriage, motherhood, secrets and betrayal. But in this episode of No Filter, Sally shares her own story — and it’s as layered and compelling as one of her books. Sitting down with Kate Langbroek, Sally talks candidly about ending her 20-year marriage, co-parenting with her ex, and why she no longer believes marriage is a good deal for women. She also explains why she’ll never live with a man again, how her family reacted to her decision, and why, despite the heartbreak, this next chapter might just be her happiest yet. What if the biggest barrier to better sex isn’t your body, your partner, or your libido, but the shame and silence surrounding it? In this episode, Dr Mariam sits down with Australia’s go-to sexologist, Chantelle Otten, for a candid, practical and deeply reassuring conversation about sex, intimacy and why so many of us are still too embarrassed to talk about what’s happening in the bedroom. From mismatched libidos and postpartum desire dips to painful sex, vaginismus and the mental load that can kill the mood before anyone even makes it to bed, Chantelle explains why great sex isn’t about performance, it’s about curiosity, communication and giving yourself permission to change the rules. Plus, she answers your anonymous listener questions: Why can you orgasm alone but not with a partner? Is it normal to lose all desire after kids? How do you make sure your vendors know what an incredible contribution they made to your wedding and what it meant to you?In the United States, the answer is tips and gratuity. It's expected, it's budgeted for, and on an average wedding they add thousands of dollars to a bill engaged couples are already pushed to afford.I recently polled the Unbridely Suppliers Facebook group about this topic. They are all Australian wedding vendors, and their answer was something completely different. So it got me thinking: when a vendor works for themselves and has the privilege of setting their own prices, is a tip really what they need/want? Or is it just the most convenient way for a couple to feel like they've said thank you properly. And is there a better, easier and yes, cheaper way to do it that actually means more to everyone involved? In this episode of No Filter, Kate Langbroek sits down with ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Kate Ceberano for a conversation that feels less like a formal interview and more like two women circling the biggest questions of identity, ambition, creativity and reinvention together. There’s also a deeply personal connection between them that slowly reveals itself throughout the episode, shaping the intimacy and honesty of the conversation in unexpected ways. Kate Ceberano reflects on growing up in Melbourne’s music scene, the chaos and excess she witnessed as a young artist, and the ways drugs and alcohol shaped — and destroyed — parts of the industry around her. She speaks candidly about feeling like an outsider for much of her career, navigating the boys’ club of Australian music, and the opportunities she walked away from, including a role in Strictly Ballroom that she still thinks about today. The conversation also moves into marriage, motherhood, ageing, creativity, identity, and what it means to still be searching for yourself after forty years in the spotlight. After last years sell‑out national tour, Kate Ceberano is returning with an “encore” of her "Australian Made Tour” - Tickets at KateCeberano.Com SUBSCRIBE here: Support independent women's media New Mamamia subscribers get $40 off — $20 off an annual membership and $20 off your TWOOBS order. Sienna Miller and Laura Henshaw are presenting two very different versions of new motherhood in our feeds — so why is the internet upset with both of them? Monique Bowley, Amelia Lester and Stacey Hicks dive into the unrealistic expectations on new mums and how there might be no right answer. Also, Mandy Moore has officially entered the chat over Ashley Tisdale’s viral ‘toxic’ mum group essay back in January, and suddnely it feels like we're back in high school. British pop star Maisie Peters first came to Australia supporting her friend (and boss), Ed Sheeran. Since then, she’s released one of the most beloved breakup albums in modern pop, toured with Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, gone viral for reasons both good and brutal, and built a fiercely devoted fanbase drawn to her razor-sharp songwriting about love, heartbreak and, yes, “mid men”. Now, Maisie is back with a new album, Fluorescence — a record that feels softer, happier and more grounded than the chaos of The Good Witch. In this conversation with No Filter Executive Producer Bree Player, Maisie opens up about the “mid men” who inspired her biggest songs, the online backlash that followed her viral Eras Tour moment, what it was like recovering from serious vocal issues behind the scenes, and how falling in love changed the way she writes music. They also talk about songwriting as emotional archaeology, growing up online, why happiness is actually harder to write about than heartbreak, and the surprisingly healthy reality of being in a relationship while still performing songs about exes night after night. Plus: Ed Sheeran as a boss, secret boyfriends with emoji faces, and why Maisie Peters considers all of Australia her hometown.
