Welcome back to the Print On Demand Cast! In this week's episode, Travis and Josiah have a chance to catch up with Ken Reil, moderator of the Trademark Watch Dawgs Facebook Group. Ken was on the show back on Episode 9 so the guys get an update as to what he's been up to for the past 2 years for starters. Then the conversation moves to his recent testimony before the Trademark Public Advisory Committee about recent fee increases that have been proposed by the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office.) Below you can find the link for submitting your comment (next 5 days only) to the USPTO regarding these increases and we encourage you to submit a comment! There's so much more great conversation in this episode that I won't waste any more time writing about - go listen! Hello, all you cool cats and kittens! What a year it has been since my very last episode. A lot has happened since then, and there have been some significant changes on Merch. So I invited my good friend Ken Reil to come and talk Merch with me on my return episode. I apologize in advance for the quality of the audio. I'll be honest with you. It's been so long that I almost forgot how to record my very own show. I promise that it will get better. In the meantime, ignore the clicking sound and enjoy my conversation with Ken Reil.
Those in the Print On Demand Facebook ecosphere will likely recognize the Merch Fairy himself, Ken Reil. Ken is an expert when it come to building brands and negotiating licensing deals. He also runs a large Facebook group called Trademark Watch Dawgs that exists to stop frivolous trademarks from being filed and they have successfully done just that through the use of "Letters Of Protest" (more on that in the show.) Join Travis and Josiah as they drink from the firehose of knowledge that Ken shares - he's got mad game, people. Oh, also in the Point Of Interest, the guys go over the recent USPS rate increase. You can check out the webpage Travis and Josiah are referencing here: https://www.stamps.com/usps/postage-rate-increase/ http://printondemandcast.com
Every episode is a special episode, but this episode is extra special. This week my father Ken Reil stops by, and we discuss licensing agreements and DesignerCon. We had the opportunity to attend DesignerCon in Anaheim a few weeks ago, and we recap our experience. Ken also drops some valuable nuggets on how to succeed on Merch by Amazon. We're very fortunate that Ken has connections with the staff at Merch by Amazon, and he's always sharing what he can with the community. Ken drops some hints on what's coming in 2020. I was always very vocal about how saturated the Merch by Amazon marketplace is. However, Ken reassured me that there is still money to be made. Let's all start making goals for 2020 and make sure to share your goals with us in the comments.

Love that phrase: Have a silent conversation. Never thought about it until my conversation with Ken. You see someone with a phrase on their shirt. You believe that defines them, good or bad. You pass judgement and make an inner statement to yourself. Then you move on. Guess what, that is a silent conversation. You connected or not with the individual based on what their shirt said. I will never look at a phrase in the same way again. I will be conversing with them. Albeit silently! Amazing, amazing group. This is a teacher. This is Gaye, she was a teacher. She is a teacher. Still. You need to learn. This is the type of environment you want to be in because she’s going to help you understand why, and I think that’s the hardest part of this business is understanding why. Why is the red one popular when the green one isn’t? Well, there’s usually a reason and what Gaye does is probably parse that better than anybody and she’ll explain the reasons for those things. I think that’s really powerful. Yes, she puts out a list. You’re going to get a good use of that list if you get in the group. Now here’s the deal. The group isn’t always open, right? So you get on the waiting list and you can join the waiting list through my link. Stephen: https://www.temi.com/editor/t/F9bv8APHt79YZSO5nU6ayaw0B5SkXOijNreyqCH2DYF-UiZKXaV1JVgKf8IK9i1AuDTKEIhG4DovGpOI2lFKEwEXwoA?loadFrom=DocumentDeeplink&ts=46.65 ([00:00:46]) Doesn’t cost anything to get on a waiting list and if you like her service, which I find that most people do that, that’s why there’s not so many openings. Um, you’ll be with her for a long time. And so it’s amazing freedom.com. She’s part of Andy Slam. It’s group amazing freedom.com. Forward slash momentum. And you’re going to get in the waiting list. That’s all I can get you on right now. You can use my name and see if that gets you anywhere. But what I like about in the uh, what I like about what they teach in that group or the things that are going on, you know, the current things. I’ve seen a lot of stuff going on about stores going out of business. Well here’s where an opportunity is, here’s why you want to do this. Hey, be cautious about this, you know, with toys r US coming out, you’ve got to think about this and that’s the learning that you need to do. Real Talk RJ & Matt Guest Ken Reil & David Cadoff by Real Talk : RJ & Matt
In this weekend edition of Real Talk, we sat down with Travis Ross of the Rocky Mountain Reseller Conference. Travis helps head up one of the most diverse and popular Conferences for Amazon, Ebay, and Merch sellers. The exciting this this year, is it's going to be a very Merch heavy conference. Tons of heavy hitters from Neil Lassen, Ken Reil, Anthony Busciglio and others will be speaking. It's a great opportunity to network and learn from some of the best minds in Merch. Highly recommend if you can make it to Denver you should attend.
Quite possibly the funniest and most fun episode of Real Talk yet. Merch By Amazon legends Ken Reil, Glen Zubia and Yong Jae Chong all joined us for an epic roundtable about all things Merch. We started the episode off with Ken Reil talking Merch Dojo and dropping knowledge bombs about Print on Demand, the future of Merch By Amazon, and how early this platform is in it's lifecycle. Glen and Yong joined us about midway through, and the hilarity began. Yong decided to not have his webcam on, so plenty of time was spent making fun of his profile pic. But more importantly besides the fun we had, some amazing golden nuggets were dropped. Both Glen and Ken were on the platform from the very beginning, it was fascinating to listen to their opinions on what makes good design, and how people can improve their merch business.
This week Glen and Yong talk to the legendary Ken Reil. Ken is putting up some ridiculous numbers on Merch that makes the boys look silly. But then again that's not very hard to do. Ken is from Las Vegas and has a background in sign making. He's currently on the 10k tier and has 6800 shirts live. He took that experience and scaled his Merch account to where he's now making more than what Glen and Yong make combined. Ken talks about how the Merch by Amazon conference came about. He also talks about how he's scaled his Merch business along with some assistance from his wife. Ken is a true inspiration, and we can all take something from the interview and apply it to our own Merch business. Sponsors Merch Informer https://merchinformer.com/223.html
