There is no "Night King / leader of the Others" figure in the current book storyline like there was on the show. But one could emerge... and that one is Night's King Crowseye!
We haven't seen a leader of the Others yet in the books, but the symbolism suggests that one will emerge... Hey friends! So sorry to get behind on the podcast feed, but I'll be catching up this week. I do want to remind you that most YT livestreams will not appear in the podcast feed, as it's simply too time consuming to edit all of the audio, so do make sure to check in at the channel. I will however put Weirwood Compendium 9 and 10 on the feed this week, so cheers and enjoy!
Were Azor Ahai and Night's King the same person? The symbolism of Stannis Baratheon and Jon Snow tell the story. Val is in this one too :)
We prepare for the biggest television event of the decade by finally tackling Game of Thrones. We misremember many details about the franchise as Sansa and Arya prepare for a house party, Tormund recalls Jon's reanimation, and the Night's King demonstrates resurrection to Bucky Barnes
Major spoilers for Nightflyers! Turn back now! Why does a shard of obsidian in the heart of the Night King turn him into a cold god instead of killing him? Or protect Benjen Stark from becoming one of the mindless army of the dead? The answer comes from George R.R. Martin's short story Nightflyers and novel Dying of the Light: the whisperjewel. I am joined by special guest Poor Quentyn (poorquentyn.tumblr.com/) for a fun discussion of Night's King, Euron, Stannis, the Undying, and Hizdahr's frozen dream penis. It's just me for the first 25 minutes or so, then Poor Quentyn joins in. Thanks to everyone who joined us live and sent in questions. I didn't get to them all and will save some for next time. Happy Holidays, and I hope you enjoy!
To begin to penetrate the shroud of mystery around the legend of Night's King, we will use the familiar method of examining characters which seem to echo his archetype - Stannis Baratheon, Jon Snow, and Euron Crow's Eye. Stunningly, all of these characters also demonstrate clear Azor Ahai reborn symbolism - and I believe that is because Night's King was either Azor Ahai, or his son or brother. A blood of the dragon person. Contents include nightmare visions, Others wordplay, Warlock Wine, a dragon-on-dragon battle, all of Euron's symbolism, and tons of fodder for JonValJon shippers. Music by John Walsh, voice acting by Martin Lewis.
Our third installment in the Moons of Ice and Fire series examines Aegon the Conqueror, Visenya, and Rhaenys as a model for the solar king with two lunar queens. This will lead us to a dramatic revelation about the Night's King, of all people, and will prepare us to examine Rhaegar, Elia and Lyanna as a matching "mythical astronomy love triangle." This is a bloody and action packed episode with tons of dragon carnage, so dig in and enjoy. This week on Game of Microphones Still Smug Book Talk, Ser Duncan and Obsidian Crow cover the Season 7 Finale "The Dragon and the Wolf". Together we'll experience the storied history of the Dragonpit and the brutal attack that left the the structure in the destroyed state in which we find it in the finale, and compare "the Night King" of the tv show's to "Night's King" of the books. We explore the different ways that Jaime eventually left Cersei in the show vs the books but note a significant weather change that occurs similarly in both cases. We talk Cleganebowl and explore The Hound's driving motivation in life: to brutally murder his older brother. We discover similarities between the deaths of Littlefinger and the maegi Mirri Maz Duur, revel in the influence that Ned Stark is still having on our characters, and witness a vision of Rhaegar Targaryen that both explains the similar look of him and his younger brother Viserys, and gives us some insight into the significance that Rhaegar places on Jon's birth name, Aegon Targaryen. In Part 2 of the Weirwood Compendium, we will finally be ripping into the symbolism of one of the main characters in the story, Brandon Stark. As the primary recipient of the fire of the gods in ASOIAF, Bran finds himself right at the center of the tangled web of mythology that encompasses both greenseers and Lightbringer. In this episode, we will be visiting several towers of note which Bran is tied to, and we will try not to get struck by lightning as we climb up to the heavens with the bad little boy who was struck down by lighting. We'll also get a healthy dose of Samwell Tarly, as well as the Nightfort and the Night's King, and be on the lookout for a mysterious one-eyed stranger in a hooded cloak. Julia and Kylie are back and totally didn't record this episode over a month ago!
