Dr Lance Benner of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory headed up a team of scientists who used the 70 meter antenna at NASA's Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex to bounce RADAR beams off of the asteroid Florence as it made a close approach to Earth in September of 2017. The RADAR images these researchers obtained reveal that Florence consists of a 2.8 mile diameter primary asteroid which is orbited by two small moons. Florence's two satellites appear to be between three hundred and a thousand feet in diameter and orbit the main asteroid in about 8 and 24 hours respectively. Florence is rare since there are only two other triple asteroid systems among the 16,000 Earth approaching asteroids which asteroid hunters have discovered. We would know more about Florence if Hurricane Irma had not prevented astronomers from using the giant Arecibo RADAR Dish in Puerto Rico to study it. Our curiosity will have to wait since Florence will not come very close again until September 2, 2057.

On this episode of SETI Live, host Moiya McTier welcomes two leading researchers—Gabriele Cugno (University of Zürich) & Sierra L. Grant (Carnegie Institution for Science)—to dive into an extraordinary discovery by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST): a carbon-rich, moon-forming disk around the distant exoplanetary object CT Cha b, some 625 light-years away. What exactly is a "moon-forming disk"? Why is this discovery a game-changer for our understanding of how moons — and ultimately habitable environments around them — can form? Gabriele and Sierra walk us through spectroscopy, chemistry (including acetylene, benzene, and more), observational challenges, and the big philosophical questions: Could moons be even more common than planets? What does this tell us about our own Solar System's past — and the possibilities for life elsewhere?

These plumes are now believed to originate from a subsurface ocean of liquid water beneath the moon's icy crust, with conditions compatible with life, as we know it. It took some time to get us where, We thought we wanted to go. But when we arrived we realized, That together we can do even more! ☉สวัสดี (Hello in Thai)! It's a new Moon conjunct Mercury and Black Moon Lilith! In the last degrees of powerful Scorpio! Can we do this? As I discuss in this week's report, that all depends. Just as life becomes more complicated the older we get so do the signs and the new Moons that occur in those signs. A new Moon is a new beginning, let's say of a chapter in a book, maybe the 8th chapter.  We need to go back through the other chapters, see what happened, and take it from there, especially with a retrograde Mercury. My perspective is that on a global level, humanity has not navigated the first seven chapters very successfully. In fact, it seems with all the fighting going on, that we may be stuck in the first chapter of Aries! No wonder it's taking us all so many lifetimes to graduate from the school of planet earth! However, on a personal level, since we are all on individual trajectories, with unique soul histories and intentions for this life, we may "succeed" in chapter eight regardless of the whole.  The best we can do for humanity is to become the best version of ourselves anyway, so now is a good time to start. With the review that I talked about last week, we can use the outline I describe this week to go back through, not only this year but perhaps this relationship, this career, this path, this life! Done well, this month's lunar cycle can bring us more power, whether that be more money, business, love, sex, depth, understanding, or mastery... whatever your values, goals, and desires use for a measuring stick. One way or the other, it looks like this is a month of "make it or break it." We either merge and emerge more than we were before, or we battle it out so as not to change and "lose our old self." The choice is ours to make and I wish you the best! Let's all "Come Together" https://youtu.be/OEo9Bh679wM?si=CbzfYYB9ZYvaTBPf So Much Love,Kaypacha☉

In episode 144, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield turn their cosmic lens to the recent divorce of English singer/songwriter Lily Allen and "Stranger Things" actor David Harbour. With her new album out, "West END Girl" Allen has created a collection of songs detailing the struggles of her marriage to David.    The analysis begins with Lily's chart, revealing a vocally talented Sun in Taurus that also denotes a strong aesthetic sense and a stubborn streak. This is amplified by a square from Jupiter, indicating a tendency toward overextension and rebelliousness. While her Moon in Libra seeks balance, an opposition from a fiery Venus in Aries ensures that calm is often short-lived.   Turning to David's chart, we find an extremely assertive and highly reactive stellium in Aries, pointing to a powerful ego. However, with his Moon in opposition to Pluto, this intensity often simmers beneath the surface. A Venus/Mars square further adds an appetite for intimacy and a dose of charisma.   When their charts are combined, the dynamics become clear. They possess opposing Moons, leading to drastically different emotional reactions and domestic needs. The presence of Pluto creates a landscape of high emotional volatility and controlling behaviors, while a Saturn square to the Moon reveals patterns of brutal withholding. Although a mutual Mars trine to Pluto gave them the power to be independent within the relationship, was this single positive aspect enough to hold their marriage together? Tune in to hear the shocking final Venus score and our complete astrological verdict.   Book a Reading with us! It's another news roundup! This time, we cover how, using data analytics – and ironically, some AI – a team at Cornell University has mapped the environmental impact of AI by state. They determined that, by 2030, the rate of AI growth in the U.S. would put an additional 24 to 44 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The team further calculated that by 2030, AI could use as much water as 6 to 10 millions Americans do every year. All of this, they conclude, would put the tech industry's climate goals out of reach. This episode, we also get into the potential for life on one of Saturn's moons and a new discovery about why chameleons' eyes are so special. Interested in reporting on the environmental impact of AI? With the autumn harvest safely stowed away, many people in bygone centuries turned their attention to hunting. And just as the Harvest Moon helped them bring in the crops, the Hunter’s Moon helped them find game. The moonlight made it easier to track animals through the empty fields and beyond. Although most present-day Americans don’t have to worry about storing food for the winter, we still keep the names for those full Moons. We had the Harvest Moon last month. And tonight, it’s time for the Hunter’s Moon. The names for both of these full Moons come mainly from parts of Europe and the British Isles. The names were recorded as far back as the early 1700s, but they’d probably been in everyday use for much longer. Variations of the “Hunter’s Moon” label were used by several native tribes and nations in the Americas as well. The Harvest Moon is usually defined as the full Moon closest to the autumn equinox. Most years, that puts it in September. But this year, October’s full Moon edged out September by just a few hours. So the Hunter’s Moon got bumped into November. Officially, the Moon will be full at 7:19 a.m. Central Standard Time tomorrow. So it will appear almost as “full” when it rises tomorrow night as it does tonight – extra time to appreciate the brilliant glow of the Hunter’s Moon. Tomorrow: A giant black hole at the center of a little red dot. Script by Damond Benningfield
