Bringing hound hunters together from everywhere is the goal of this special bonus episode. While at Autumn Oaks I had the idea to gather up a few of everyones favorite hound media personalities. The goal was to talk about where we have been, and where we are going and how we can unite to achieve these goals. I think we had a great conversation with a lot of laughs but also hit a few serious topics as well. I hope everyone enjoys this conversation as much as I did. Today we have a special bonus episode with some of the most recognized voices in hound media. Ben Sheets of Tree Talking Time put together a “Hound Media Summit” of sorts where he, along with Chris, Josh, Clayton, and Jason talk about the houndsman's presence in the outdoor media industry. We talk about the responsibility we all have as well as tip our hats to the “mainstream” that is coming around and realizing the value of Houndsmen and our way of life. Some big things are in the making, so how can write our own narrative?
Listen in as the most recognizable voices in Hound Media and podcasting come together to discuss media and its importance to hunting with hounds in 2023 and into the future. Interview with Nolan Peterson, CEO of Sandstorm Gold Royalties (TSX:SSL, NYSE:SAND)Our previous interviews: https://youtu.be/EaxtScCYzx0. and https://youtu.be/Ro4pOafAoi4Recording date: 18th September 2023Sandstorm Gold President and CEO Nolan Watson provided an update on the streaming company's strategy in an interview at the Denver Gold Forum conference. Watson noted Sandstorm plans to be "boring" over the next couple of years, focusing on paying down debt and waiting for four key assets to reach production.Watson sees volatility declining in Sandstorm's share price with major shareholders who had been selling down now mostly cleared out. Going forward, trading should be more fundamentals-driven. Institutional investors remain bullish on gold given high interest rates and see an upside if rates start falling. On the macro outlook, Watson believes central banks are supporting the institutional liquidation of gold, resulting in significant net buying. He sees gold emerging as a viable alternative reserve currency to the U.S. dollar over time as countries push for de-dollarization.Sandstorm expects to produce around 95,000 gold equivalent ounces in 2022. With no additional acquisitions, four assets under construction are slated to drive production to around 125,000 ounces by 2027, representing over 30% growth. These include Equinox Gold's Greenstone mine in Canada, Ivanhoe's Platreef mine in South Africa, Barrick's Robertson mine at Cortez in Nevada, and Houndé in Burkina Faso.Given high interest rates, Sandstorm plans no major acquisitions in the near term. The focus is on paying down debt taken on to fund recent deals. Watson may look to sell non-core assets to accelerate debt repayment. Once debt is reduced, Sandstorm has locked in an option to acquire a $225 million stream from Glencore's Mara project. In summary, Sandstorm offers stable growing cash flow leverage to the gold price from a diversified portfolio of world-class mines. With no equity issuances needed, investors can position for pending production growth through a period of debt reduction and anticipated sector upside.—Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.com
Our guest this week is a young man with impeccable credentials in the UKC show ring over the past few years. He and his wife Kelly are familiar faces among the Bench Show faithful and have had considerable success competing at the higher levels of the sport. In 2016, Dave won Opposite Sex at the UKC World Show Championship with GRCH Laurel Valley Doc Holiday HTX, a Black and Tan Coonhound. Steve served as the Bench Show Judge at the event and naturally the conversation covers that experience. The following year, Dave's wife Kelly won World Show Champion overall with her Treeing Walker male GRCH Laurel Valley Backwoods Boondocker. Steve and Dave discuss the competition that exists between the husband-and-wife team. This is an easy going, coon hunter to coon hunter conversation that illustrates the types of sportsmen and sportswomen that exist within the sport today.
What do hounds, NAVHDA, and bird dogs have in common? Ross Ellwanger that's what. Ross joins Bear to discuss his life in the world of hunting dogs. We discuss his hounds, his start, and he shares some insight about the hounds that make him tick.

For those of you who know me personally, you know I love theme parks. And if you're a fan of this show already, you know I love all things spooky as well. We're looking into the abandoned theme park in Fort Mill whose eerie remnants can still be seen to this day. Then, a story that's been spinning for decades in South Carolina involves the ghost of a hound that chases people, cars, or anything it encounters on a five-mile section of Old Buncombe Road as it runs through parts of Union County in South Carolina. And later: in 1983, Steven King gave us a chilling tale about a haunted car with his classic book Christine. To most, the concept of a possessed vehicle seems farfetched and fitting for a horror novel. But for one native in Cherokee County, it seems that truth is stranger than fiction. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scspookshow/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scspookshow/support

“Cut out the poetry, Watson” [RETI] The Hound of the Baskervilles holds a special place for many people. It is a gothic tale of horror, mystery, and the supernatural. A fine example of Conan Doyle's ability to tell a good story. Trevor Raymond, BSI, M. Bt. thought it even lent itself to poetry. We share two of his versions of The Hound in poetic form — as if written by two famous poets — plus discuss the likely sense of the public's reaction when Holmes was off the scene for eight years and then reappeared in The Strand. Steve invited Corey Gruver back to the Gone To The Dogs microphone, after a recent guest appearance, and the two seasoned contributors tackle the question, “Are coon hunting magazines relevant today?” Gruver will be working with the revived publication and reveals some of the mission planned for the periodical going forward. The discussion begins with news of Gruver's newest project, training his first Plott female. Steve's experience with the breed spanning seventy years, and Gruver's recent experiences including treeing a black bear, make for interesting banter involving the brindle breed. Steve finishes the episode by sharing an article his father, Homon Fielder had published in Full Cry in 1971, fifty-two years ago. There's something for everyone in this episode and especially purists that thrill to the sound of the pack at full cry.
Times change, but one thing that stays the same for many is the annual pilgrimage to Autumn Oaks. It's that time of year again and the anticipation continues to grow as plans are being made, maps plotted and dogs/handlers are gearing up for the big show! Jason and Steve talk a bit about Autumn Oaks, its predecessor the “Leafy Oaks” field trial and the history behind the event that is easily recognized as one of the most prestigious hunts in the world of coonhounds. They also talk about how many of the early well know coonhounds contributed to the make up of “big game” or “West Coast” dogs. Find out where you can find Steve along with several other fellow podcaster and past guest if your fortunate enough to attend this year's event. We look forward to Steve's report of the event coming in future episodes.

We are often contacted by deer hunters who own and manage land in states that allow hunting deer with the use of hounds about conflicts when hounds enter their private property. NDA does not have a policy opposing hunting deer with the use of hounds but instead relies on state wildlife management agencies to handle decisions related to method of pursuit or take. NDA strongly supports the rights of private landowners and fully understands the frustration of stationary deer hunters who have had their hunts interrupted by dogs. In this episode, Nick and The Doctor are joined by Chris Powell of the HoundsmanXP Podcast to discuss this issue. One of Chris's focus areas is working to reduce hound and deer hunting conflicts and he shares what he hopes to accomplish. He believes both sides of the issue can work together to improve everyone's enjoyment of their chosen hunting passions without infringing on each others' rights. Steve and Gary became acquainted through their legislative activities and the mutual love for the Plott breed and have had many conversations over the years. Gary is a humorist with a gift for telling stories from his native West Virginia, many centered on hunting with hounds and jam-packed with local color. Knapp provided material for Steve's monthly columns in American Cooner magazine under the heading “Mule Tales.” Gary was given the nickname Mule as a result of his strength and work ethic when a younger man. This one is seasoned with mountain flavor like smoked pork sausage or country ham. Get yourself a biscuit and pass the blackberry jam. We're about to share country word-vittles, Gary Knapp-style.
For today's episode, Buddy and Don sit down and dive deeper into the topic of picking a pup. They talk about things to consider when picking your first pup, the family dynamic when picking a prospect, and the intuition of a bitch to select the strongest and most viable pups. They also touch on the topic of not just picking the best pup, but the right pup for you and your hunting/living situation around the 20 minute mark of the podcast. This one is full of great insight and perspective on a very personal decision. So if your looking at picking a new pup or want something to ponder until its time to add that next pack member, this is a great episode for you.
